Lol... I practice a style of Kung fu , Choy lay fut which is a southern style (mainly).... What you do is a more rigid version...We do kick more than a lot of kung fu ....It's cool to see others enjoying martial arts... No matter how different ... The names might be different...but I see similarities ....I also see major differences...Keep it up...we need to preserve these styles..

"A man does not excel because of his style. It's only when a man can go outside the bounds set by his system that he can excel. If a marital artist can practice a style without being bound and limited to his particular school, then and only then can he be liberated to fission with any type of opponent. A great majority of instructors, however, blind their practitioners and brainwash them into believing only their school of training is best" Dan Inosanto, 1972

In both kung fu and karate, clinch fighting is an available tool to learn. In my baguazhang school's "syllabus of movement" if you will, the Fire Palm introduces knees and elbow fighting with clinch applications while Heaven Palm handles standing grappling body mechanics. So Muay Thai could be matched so long as the practitioner is honest about their training and isn't neglecting athleticism.

I have a ton of respect for these martial artists but all things being equal a wise person puts their money on the Muay Thai or BJJ guy.

That's not to say that it wouldn't help, but a random guy is not gonna stand there after you grab his wrist, nor can you ask him "hey punch me with your right hand right below my chin" I believe that all martial could benefit from "real life senairio" practices.

I think all styles of martial arts has their merits and can be devastating against an attack whether it be kung fu or karate. It all depends on the person. It's really awesome to see the 2 different areas of martial arts comparing not to see which is better but to show there are many ways to reach the peak of the mountain all of us martial artists climb. Ty Sensei Jesse and Sensei Ando.

Speaking only for myself, until you have actually experienced having your face eaten off, it is very easy to dismiss the classic forms. By your 3rd or 4th face it REALLY starts to sting. And good luck going out on a date for a few weeks. Try as hard as you want to steer the conversation but in the end it will always come around to " So...where is your face?"

Hi Jesse, Everyone has their own experiences. In my case I started with Karate and also tried Kung fu. Their is one realization which comes from within our body's reaction. For me I could not generate enough power in my strikes using Kung fu. After, 10 years I had the opportunity to have friendly sessions with Special forces and getting introduced to Krav Maga. Though I could identify some of the Krav Maga 'Burst' principles with old Shito Ryu, the overall experience changed the way I now see self defense and attack. Just a request could you have a session with Krav Maga? Not to judge but to get new perspectives.

The moves were very well done this time but realize that The crane style is also in Kung Fu in the end it all comes down to which fighter reads the other fighter better and has better timing and technique, the reality is anything can happen in the flash of a second and fights can switch instantly from being controlled by one fighter to the other

Great vid as usual! We train in "tiger style" but we take and make completely brutal. My instructor and myself, being now 54, have been in many fights as younger men and also bouncers. We find that Tiger Style combined with Tradition Karate Power is extremely effective in real situations. Our system, or I should say my instructor's system, is also simple to teach students that are simply looking for self defense and not a full blown Martial Arts program. Like a real fight, nothing we do is fancy. We try to train for real life situations. And just an fyi, we are not really proud of our past, but, the 70's and 80's were a different time and place and wisdom comes with age. We also incorporate nose hooks, eye gouges, era pulls, biting, etc, whatever will help someone get out of a real life attack and get to safety. Much Respect Jesse. Your vids are open minded and great!

Great video, Jess! I thought your techniques were excellent. Just one thought though, that leg catch and tiger grab to the throat is done so damn fast that I don’t know if a counter is really possible. My Sensei years ago did a step in throat grab and it was just jarring to my head not to mention feeling my carotids closing off. There’s a saying in Wing Chun that if a Wing Chun master grabs one’s throat: “ Grasping the throat is a ruthless technique. Once commenced, it cannot be stopped”

Open pale strikes are super illegal in tournament fighting, they are killing moves that can easily remove huge chunks of skin from the physics of shoft on shoft surfaces
@MeldinX2
@MeldinX2 4 года назад
True sports Martial arts are totally diffrent from the origins of the martial art which where for self defense or attack. If you are attacked and you fear for your life then open pale strikes are very effective in maiming your assultant and making you live another day. Obviously if it's for sport or practise you obviously don't want to seriously harm your opponent and thus rules have to exist.

This is one thing I always said to do. Learn as much as possible of another style, it will open your eyes and enhance your style even more. One style a student came up with when I first started is called " Runna ryu." 😋
@pranakhan
@pranakhan 7 лет назад
I see what you are saying Karate-Man, my concern is that when youre student catches the leg, he doesn't lower his stance and step in on the strike. Proximity limits the whipping force of your crane-inspired counter, and without stepping in the tiger practitioner is not prepared to execute the take down. Any followup attacks you do while the leg is held exposes a vulnerability to the takedown, the tiger practitioner rotating in the waist while driving in and down. Also, a joint lock is a dangerous proposition to use against the Tiger practitioner. You are essentially trying to out-grapple an aggressive counter-grappler. I would research the Lohan Tiger Taming form, as this style was developed extensively to deal with southern Chinese marauders skilled in these tiger techniques. Reverse engineer the From into a Karate Kata, and you will see the non-linear allpication of these moves and their application.
