I'm the father of an autistic child and another child with seizures but even I know autism is not the only disability in the world. The level of entitlement you have to have to believe that autism is the only qualifying disability in the world that takes entitlement to a whole new level

I'm autistic and I am disabled because of all the struggles I had growing up because of my condition. The behavior of this woman is appalling because even if her daughter needs someone to accompany her, this woman maybe using her to get a free pass to the ride despite not being disabled herself and the way she treats others, accusing them of not having a disability when she has no proof.

Ok so about the first story, the Karen claimed that the op was disabled enough to have the special pass because of the thing that’s going on with their leg, and says it’s not an actual disability. I literally smacked myself in the head when I heard that cause I’m friends with a girl who pretty much has the same disability, except it got so bad that she’s in a wheelchair. A top of that me as way as a crap ton of my friends have autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and one of thems deaf. Autism is a spectrum disorder and a developmental disability, and there are also some disability’s that effect us in ways that are better or worse. So yeah, I’m glad the OP got on the ride with their friends without having to deal the the Karen any long (I’m sorry if I ranted a lil)

It's fine, I agree with every bit, I think that Karen should answer for her crimes and should have her home and everything she owns repossessed, and her child taken away from her, and given to a true home, one that cares for her, cause to use your daughter as a free pass to get to a ride and other things, not to mention that she claimed the op of the story was faking, how dare she even do that, I hope that woman gets the ultimate punishment for herself, and then has all her things and house taken away from her, and her daughter being in a better home than the home she is in, then the karen to be made to work her debt off for how she treated her daughter, which would be pretty much infinity!

My disabilities are obvious to everyone. They significant enough where I need help with some things and I need to use my wheelchair or forearm crutches when I leave the house. For those with hidden disabilities, it is so much harder and my heart goes out to them. Too many people are judgmental and no one should have to "prove their disability" to a complete stranger who has no business to know. Also, if someone uses a disability parking placard, they could be using it for themselves or someone they are with who needs it. Once I was with my sister at a conference and I was using my wheelchair. She had to leave the building and went to her car to grab something. A woman saw the placard in her car and saw my sister who didn't look like she had disabilities and made a rude and snarky comment. My sister cried when she came back and found me. When she calmed down, we went into the conference room. The woman saw me with my wheelchair and my sister pushing me. She turned beet red and it was satisfying to see her being obviously embarrassed.

A “Karen” got up in a huff about seeing me in one she had gone to a manager to have me removed from the store. Saying I wasn’t disabled and didn’t need to use one of the carts. I showed the manager the braces on my legs that were hidden under my pant legs and then turned to the lady and told her that I was disabled and to leave me alone. Let’s say that pissed the “ Karen” off more she literally tried grabbing my arm to pull me from the cart. The manager saw this and had 3 other employees hold the lady back while they waited for the cops to show up. I was so pissed I sat there for 45 minutes telling the cops over and over again what happened eventually showing them my leg braces as well. One of them tapped me on the shoulder and motioned to the empty seat next to me so I got up so she could get to that seat. Her frd saw the opportunity and sat on my seat, then the other two who were standing said to the women in seats, loudly so that I can hear, “young people these days, u have to force them out of the seats, no respect for elders at all” First of all, altho I’m not old like them, it still hurt to stand, that’s why I’m in the seat Second of all, I had my earphones on, if they had politely asked me to give them their seat, I would, after all, if u had asked for it, I would think that u rly needed it, considering that they did look quite old. But because they thought they were so smart to trick me into getting up, I just mumbled to myself, also loud enough for them to hear, that I also had surgery recently and I’m not trying to be rude. They started to apologise immediately, but the one sitting in my seat didn’t, she just sarcastically said “so u wanna sit back on this seat?” Since I thought it would be stupid to argue over a seat, and I’d be getting off soon anyways, I just told her “no, u can sit on the seat, it just hurts a bit but that’s fine” And the four got quiet The bus arrived my stop around 5 mins after this convo so there wasn’t a big issue

A friend of mine got simular harasment like in the first one from a couple of elderly women on the bus cos he sits in the disabled area when sat down you wouldnt know that he spends half his time wheelchair bound (context when he can he tries to walk but its a struggle), the 2 women shut the hell up the moment he got off the bus as it becomes super obvious that he is disabled the moment he stands up and tries to walk people need to remember that not are disabilities are visible especially at a first glance

As someone who has cerebral palsy (Had a brain hemorrhage, leg brace, which I had for 14 years now 15,, & am now in 8th grade.) I was marked tardy a lot for missing class just because I had a hard time getting up the stairs. a BIG adjustment with out my leg brace. My CP effects my whole left side of my body & brings weakness to most of my muscles. Once in the 7th grade; my social studies teacher tried to hold me ‘accountable’ for not walking all the way around the hall since we walk in an orderly fashion. And she knew I went to Disney world the week before. I even told her, I was in a wheelchair for most of the time. My legs were absolutely drained. So I go to my physical therapist and tell her what happened. She was FURIOUS, no joke, miss Anna has seen me since I was a baby compared to said teacher. So when we get back to the school my mom has a talk with the principal. Which it makes me feel bad because after she checked me in after PT that morning, I had 5th hour.. social studies.. which I love the class (got A’s & Bs) but mrs jones.. she came to me, looked at me and said “I don’t want to hear about your therapist” I almost cried. Being honest. Almost 15 in the 7th grade; I felt like a baby. I told my mom and In an IEP meeting she asked that 1) I get extended time to switch classes; 2) If needed. Take the elevator. 3) if your legs are tired just go to your class (adaptive PE or ART)) and don’t follow the line. Now I also help my friend who’s wheelchair bound get up the elevator. She also has CP and is learning to walk!! She goes to 9th this year. Now when I told her she said “Girl I’m going to run over her legs so quick!” And trinity meant that- but she didn’t get to do it. (‘Sadly’ as she puts it) Now I also had another friend; 6th grade at the time now 7th. I was afraid for her because of mrs jones. Graclyn; had a walker. And two leg braces. I had one Used to have two. Later on; mrs jones was gone for a week. Soon we learned she was fired for hitting a boy in 7th grade who accidentally stepped on her shoes. The assistant principal was there to!!! & with all the things said by my mom, 1) holding me accountable 2) putting in my grade as a C when it should have been a B 3) telling me she didn’t wanna hear from my therapist. And HITTING a kid?! Disability or not that was NOT okay! Now she teaches the little kids at the elementary school. I honestly hope she’s doing better there. And not judging little kids like me and my friends with disabilities or putting in grades wrong and saying your going to fix them but not. Thank you for listening (my hands are tired)

So I got a disability parking permit because I have heart issues and a Connective Tissue Disorder that attacks my knees so I have extreme joint pain. I currently don't have knee braces because my last ones broke and I don't have the money for new ones. I can walk but it is painful. The parking permit allows less walking for me. This lady gave me a very disgusted look when I went into the gas station yesterday and she wouldn't take her eyes off me. I was surprised she didn't say anything to me.

I shouldn't have to do it but found it shuts Karens and male equivalents down and fast: I carry a book bag type of laptop bag. Of course a laptop is there, cold pack for two 20 oz Wild Cherry Pepsi, jolly ranchers, insulin pens and needles, spare glucometer and strips. Letters stating my disability on my PCP's letterhead and raised seal. Pain med prescription list on her office's letterhead and multicolored seal, a version of dog tags with name, blood type and major condition list, my SSA benefit verification letter, copies of my handicapped tags for my cars, an M7 bayonet near razor sharp and a S&W 910, a budget version of the S&W 59/5900 series. I call it a poor man's SIG due to the exterior but is definitely a first rate weapon with four, 17 rd Mec-Gar magazines with 124 grain 9x19mm Gold Dot jacketed hollow points. Inexpensive but reliable and effective. S&W never should have stopped making their metal framed pistols, but that's a rant for later. Parts for it are everywhere as nearly all parts from the 59 series are interchangeable. The papers and/or medicaid card usually shuts Karen down. If Karen tries "you faked them" cops can easily verify them. If she tries "he has a weapon or weapons", cops will say I have a permit and therefore legal. Was in an airport waiting for my flight to visit a friend, annoying lady said I was taking drugs in the airport, a vial of insulin, box in a cold pack with the Rx label clearly marked with my name on it and 120 count bottle of Percocet 7.5, also with my name clearly marked. Airport Police naturally let me go about my business seeing my paperwork in my bag(gun and empty magazines were in my pelican case in checked baggage properly declared and locked with only I knowing the combination. I fly without ammunition as that's too much of a pain and my mother's house had plenty of land and ammunition. If I needed some enroute to her house, could buy some and often did to carry as FL recognized WV CCW permits and vice-versa.

In regards to that first story when you mentioned that you have a relative who is on the autism spectrum and they can function just fine: Austism is a *spectrum*. Meaning it can be somewhat minute, like it just makes you have trouble understanding some jokes or implied social cues or get easily stressed out by continuous loud noises (Like a large crowd) like myself, all the way to being incredibly debilitating, and in numerous completely different ways, so the kid very well may have needed that pass. Not defending the Karen in the story, just trying to clear that up.

Disney calls them Disability Access Passes, while other places just call them Access Passes. Those kinds of passes aren't just for wheelchair users, they are for people who can't spend extended periods of time in long lines, whether it's because standing for extended periods is painful, or because being in crowds makes you debilitatingly uncomfortable.

I’m disabled as well. I’m 6’5” and can stand and walk normal. I can lift up to 30lbs and I breathe ok. However unbeknownst to anyone I’m struggling with terminal stage 4 cancer. I have tumors in my femurs, spine, arm, skull, liver and lungs. My right kidney was removed because of tumor. I’ve had 3 rounds of chemo, 5 bouts of radiation, and way too many radioactive scans than a normal person. I’ve had a saddle pulmonary embolism, spine fractures and a femur fracture. I’m a fighter and push myself hard to survive and improve. I’m proudly no longer in a wheelchair or using walking aids. My crutch is my fatigue and easily high heart rate. I sleep 14 hours a day and when walking my heart rate can hit 170 in a few minutes. I need constant rest. I take lots of pain medication that’s skirting a fine line between 0 pain and still having the ability to drive. It really sucks taking 9 horse pills and 11 other pills per day. The constant skin rashes suck also. I’m very self conscious about my disability because it’s not readily visible.

I have an "invisible disability" genetically defective collagen. Collagen is everywhere - skin, muscles, ligaments, bone, blood vessels, urinary tract, gut, eyes etc etc. I've finally achieved a good balance of pain relief without being "drugged out" on low dose opiates and oral CBD oil at night and panadol and ibuprofen in day plus hot baths, arthritis creams, walking aids, braces, physio exercises, compression garments, hot water bottles, etc etc. Plus a bucket load of meds and vitamins for wet macular degeneration and energy. Someone telling me I'm faking it is now like a red rag to a bull. The last one who did it [repeatedly] was simply told "ignorant arsehole" in a very severe cold tone. He fell like a pile of bricks and started apologising. Not good enough. I'm a 5' tall female of small frame, but I had packed my groceries and was out the door while he was still being served. I can't believe they have the nerve to pick on someone your size, although my experience is most are 'gentle giants', but ask any martial arts person, short people can really do damage to certain male areas.

Okay, not all autistic people are the same. There are different levels, just because one person can function doesn't mean they all can. True, in general, you can't SEE it, but that doesn't mean anything. I have a severely autistic daughter who would not be capable of waiting in a long line, which is why we've never been to a theme park. Granted, with my child you only have to watch her for two seconds to realize she has severe autism. It shouldn't be a "who is the most disabled" contest. Everyone should just mind their own business and not worry about who is more disabled.

As someone on the spectrum, of all the disabilities to be in a special line for, autism often isn't as extreme as broken limbs. Even though I qualify for those special lines, I don't need them as I can wait in lines just fine. It really depends on the circumstances (not everyone can physically wait in long lines without sensory issues or fainting), but the nerve to call out someone with a clearly visible disability is absurd.
