Your restrain in that encounter was admirable. It's unfortunate that we have to share the world with such ignorant and entitled people.

So how are these people going to react when Amazon has automated drones flying over their houses all day delivering packages? Because it's coming sooner than you think.

I'm in the USA and once while flying at a large park like this I had a park visitor have a similar reaction to my flying. I was flying gas planes back then (15 years ago) and a gas plane certainly would have been more of a danger than the modern foam planes. I informed them of the state/gov regulations and the rules present at the park I was flying at, they reacted much like the person you encountered: Nasty language, threats, etc. I waited till they left the area and started flying again. They came running from far off to yell at me again and continued the verbal assault. I landed again and waited till they left, this time I saw them drive off in a car. They had gone to seek out a security officer that worked at the park to 'report me' and file a complaint about my 'unlawful & dangerous' behavior. She had told the security officer that I was 'diving at children' and that she was certain I was breaking laws, demanding that he call the police. The security officer was very respectful and from a distance said 'hey could you land for a min I'd like to have a quick chat'. I did so and the officer told me what she had said and that even though I'm allowed to fly in the area and that he had been watching me fly and hadn't seen me dive at anyone that I should be careful about 'diving the plane towards children or people that might be frightened'. To which I looked around and mentioned to the officer that there doesn't seem to be any children or many people in the area, and that I have my flying recorded (much like you have here). I played back my flight pattern and also the interaction with the person that was complaining. He walked back to them (they had been smiling smugly the entire time while the officer was talking with me), their smile faded quickly as the officer told them I wasn't breaking any laws/rules, had permission to fly at the park, and that since they had been verbally abusing patrons of the park (me). He was going to have to ask them to leave. It was very satisfying... It was also very saddening, most people are genuinely interested and often would come to chat about flying or would say something like 'that's so cool!', 'how did you learn?', etc. Some people really don't know what is allowed and what is not allowed and have a very high and mighty perception of their environment. Seeking out anyone that seems to be having honest fun in order to ruin their day.

How come its always women? whilst the Husband carries on walking probably scared of getting his ass kicked by his wife thinking "I wish I had an RC aircraft..."

She's so worried about her safety yet she's eaten herself to obesity

To those who are saying “Imagine having a wife like that” - Some end up single because of their behavior. That’s what’s happening to “my” Karen. Worst part about it is they don’t all start out this way, It’s a slow and painful transition for everyone around them.

That sad guy knew she was going to have one or her moments so he took the oportunity and kept his distance to enjoy some piece, because this time it was another guy taking the heat instead of him.

Look on the bright side, you're enjoying yourself and being happy, whereas she's clearly got issues and is not happy with her life. You almost should feel sorry for her (not to mention the husband who noticably stayed out of it!)

There are only two words that would have been uttered by me, one involves sex the other, travel, I am way too old and grumpy to put up with that garbage.

You should have kept repeating "I have earbuds in and can't hear you. What?!?" Over and over again until she completely melted down. She wanted to be heard, I wouldn't have given her the pleasure.

You are too nice. Was running my Nitro truck at a....construction "spoils" pit. So "Karen" was yelling at me from a building about 100 yds (91.44 non freedom units) away. I ignored it thinking that it was not towards me. All of a sudden she is about 20ft away sceaming at me as I'm tuneing the engine on my trucks tail gate. Startled, I immediately tell her to (well not what I can say here cause it will "trigger" youtube), "to go play in traffic", how's it feel to have a emotionally bad upbringing... So she calles the cops while I just keep playing. Police show up. It's my friend on duty. Looks at her and tells her to stop harassing me. Best day ever!

This shows how civil society has degenerated ..... even ‘Down Under’. I flew the gas-engined versions in the 60s in the U.S. in open areas like this, & NEVER even once had anyone complain.... even with the pronounced gas-engine noise. If ANYTHING, parents would bring out their kids to watch us kids doing something interesting & productive since we built our own planes.... & loved to talk about them! Both my brother & I became pilots, with him as a career American military officer who served liaison with Aussie Forces. Yesterday I gave a small electric R/C plane to a friend’s young son as introduction to that hobby, & he took to it like a duck-to-water! People like that ‘KAREN’ [… & the ‘male’ KARL versions] are more & more prevalent in society, with their guaranteed privilege to get into your face over ANYTHING. You were much more polite than was warranted.……… especially after her foul mouth went on auto-pilot. Cheers!

Three friends married women from different parts of the world..... The first man married a Greek girl. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away..... The second man married a Thai girl. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table..... The third man married a girl from Australia . He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. The first day he didn't see anything. The second day he didn't see anything either. But by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he urinates....

It's hard to believe there are people like her, all she had to do was have her say, she didn't have to keep repeating herself with an attitude and the name calling. She was very childish. Like a childish Caren (because Caren can't be like all the other Karen's , she has to spell her name with a "C" because she is special)

Wow... I don't know how many times I have been doing the same thing at a park and had families come up to me asking thousands of questions wanting to get into the hobby. Sorry you had the opposite experience with the captain of the no fun police.

I understand that you’re not confrontational, but she needed to be put in her place. The fact that she was the one that approached you tells me that either her husband has been brow beaten into submission or was just a spineless wanker in the first place. Either way, we can’t allow people to feel so entitled that they gob off at any given incident and get away with it.

You were too nice IMO - stand your ground, you have just as much right to be there as her. Just because she's ignorant of the rules and doesn't like your plane doesn't give her control over you.

I’m surprised he was so calm. “Karen’s” are like that because they don’t have people they offend put them in their place. They are like those little dogs that are vicious and mean - while they are behind the fence or in their owners arms. Such a nice language she uses when kids are around. She really should get the Karen award of the year! The response from the pilot was just perfect and de escalating. Respect from a not so calm person.

That's a nice wee aeroplane u have there. I've been to New Zealand but not Australia. In Scotland we have a way to deal with Karen's like that. All u have to do is batter the husband. I used to fly at a local council cricket field , just the same sort of electric Rc planes etc , most of the time people used to like watching and having a chat . If people turned up and wanted to use the grounds I'd call it a day and go home . I only once had a nutter complain of safety . I then asked him if he would prefer to be hit by this light foam plane or a cricket ball hit for a six . He just swore , and stormed off . Some people are just sad individuals .

Haha when we were free to go to the park here in the UK I met a Karen in similar circumstances, she said she was going to call the Police, I said sure I'll wait for them because I had the regs printed off along with all my insurance so knew I wasn't doing anything wrong, she stormed off screaming obscenities.... I'm still waiting....

Kudos to being calm and courteous to that wild pig. More courteous than I could have been. Hopefully you chose to continue flying that day. As an aside, I flew RC back in the last century when one built them out of wood and doped tissue, and they weighed a ton, which made for spectacular and inevitable (for me) crashes.

She is damn lucky it wasn't me. I would have told her to pound salt. In my town I have just as much right to use sporting facilities as any on else because my taxes also went to build those sorts parks.

I used to ride my bike past a field where people flew RC planes, some of which were huge, and the pilots (is that the right word?) would always dive bomb me. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Some people just don’t know how to have fun.

I'm sorry this happened to you but I can't help feeling even worse for the children, pets and people in her life! 😧 I started flying RC over 20 years ago, in all that time I've had my share of "Karens" 😡 Don"t let them stop you! Wish I was able to be as non confrontational as you, I tend to lash back and then regret it later. But I think you did exactly the right thing. Just agree and move out and come back again when she is gone. Not worth making a big deal of it.

Happens ALOT over here. However, your 100 times more polite than I am. Usually they get the Sergeant mode returned to them. I have no time for Karens and have no resolve in letting them know.

Same thing happened to me last month! What gets me about these "Karens" is they don't even think for one second that hey, " I don't know who I am messing with here, and may get my ass kicked". Very dangerous to go up to strangers and pull that crap!

Whenever you fly in public you put a big "I'm having fun" target on your back. Every few decades I get a dandy. I have had Karens complain about the motor noise on a glider.

I started using a dash cam to record when I'm on the road, due to just this type of person. They are everywhere!?! Had some prick cut me off on the freeway and then proceed to curse me out, as if I had done the stupid manuever. As I exited the freeway, this jerk hit my car w/ his on my driver's side rear, attempting to spin me as I made a turn. After the contact, I decided I should call the police. As I'm driving to stay away from this idiot, 3 Sheriff's officers pull up along side me, demanding I pull over. As I pull over and stop, these officers pulled their weapons on ME!?! It took a bit to get them to listen to me, but once they were sure I wasn't a threat, I was able to show them the recording of the incident, after which they cuffed the other driver and took him away. GoPro to the rescue!!! Crazy is all around us - watch your 6.

I've been flying a quad in New Jersey for a few months and I have not encountered anything like this. All of my interactions have been with pleasant people who are fascinated by the drone. One woman in my neighborhood has a dog that went crazy over the drone so I landed it behind me to block the dog's view. She apologized to me! Of course, I apologized to her too. I guess I'm lucky that nobody around here is named Karen.

I've learned in life that if someone is getting joy out of something there is always someone ready to destroy the source of that joy. She could have come over and said "hey we are concerned for our safety" and had a conversation, but instead she worships her fear and chose to learn absolutely nothing about what you are enjoying in life! Consequently, there's no action that you could take to warmly accommodate her concern. It's all simply people treating one another like trash! And its shameful and completely beneath the dignity of our potential.

I always fly from designated model flying sites that are clearly sign posted by the local council warning people that this area is a legal site for RCModel aircraft. So check with your council as most have facilities to accommodate model aircraft enthusiasts.

I was going to ask if you have had problems with people at that park as i was thinking of driving down to fly there. Classic “Karen”.

It's been my experience over the years that there are people that, no matter what activity others are engaged in, just don't like others to have fun.

Never interact. Just ignore them.
