The OP mom with the 5 week old needs to get out of that house, NOW. That is an incredibly unsafe situation for both her and her child. Only an abuser SCREAMS at their partner while she is breastfeeding their child, never mind the name-calling, gaslighting and other emotional abuse, there is a high likelihood of this escalating to physical violence. My hear breaks for this mother and child.

The story about the mother-in-law: I'm not qualified, but based on the information given, I'm comfortable assuming that the mother is a narcissist, and she expertly raised a narcissistic son. Story #3 What I find the most strange is that OP is the Mother of the baby. Not the mother-in-law. The fact that her husband yelled at OP for looking after the baby's HEALTH and defended his mother so strongly is so worrying to me.... OP's husband doesn't care about her or his CHILD and acts like a child himself He most likely has had to defend his mother in the past and that's why he reacted that way and what that means is that he is not suited to become a parent himself

Story 3: If the husband has shown similar behavior like this in that past, then I would say that's a deal breaker and prepare for divorce. If he treats you like like before the baby is even born then it's only going to get worse from there. I would recommend getting a close friend of counselor with you and explain to him why you told her no. If he backslashes you, then file for divorce and stay with your parents.

So, you come in at 4th place at best. Sounds like a bum deal. Who makes you a priority? Marriage is a scam. Why any man still chooses to do it, especially with how the laws are, is beyond me.
@ria_takashi74
@ria_takashi74 2 года назад
@@smithsmith1956 I think they meant- when its time to start a family, their priority is the family their building first and not someone out of this family they are building (Like Cousins, Aunts, Niece, Nephews, Parents etc) Ofc still take care of their family (that is out of the one their building) and care for them and love them and be there for them when needed (like if their parents is sick- they have all the right to take care and visit them) But The story was about The OP having Issues with her Mother-in-law and her husband- because she was suppose to feed the baby every 2 hours but her mother-in-law made it difficult for her to maintain that routine and end up in that controversy and it ended with her Husband siding with the OP's Mother-in-law (The Husbands Mom) and an argument between the OP and her Husband (I believe was this was story #3 at 5:50 ) So I think they didnt mean for it to put it as if they were the 4th, I can see why you would think that but they also didnt say any numbers like "The kids 1st , My wife 2nd, and then my mother 3rd" so I also dont know how you get to that conclusion of the husbands/man should be 4th in the relationship/marriage. Because Relationship/Marriage or Not we should still be the priority- so saying that they "come at 4th" place is like saying that even if its an abusive relationship they should still stay because "Kid and Wife Priorities" which should not and should never happen. But we should know when to put priorities in the right time or balance our priorities. Not just always put ourself first Because in a relationship we are suppose to be in sync- both participants in the relationship/marriage should be or rather have to work on it together and priorities each other (but not forget about themself ofc, should be a balance of both prioritizing the other and ourself too) in which each should take care and be there for the other half of the relationship. Since that is suppose to be what a healthy relationship/marriage is, a friendship/relationship/marriage or just simply an acquaintance relation needs both participants to work with each other- sure maybe it could work if only one of them works on it, but it wont be healthy and or balance. So if a family has a kid, both of the parents should be balancing each other, not just the husband and not just the wife, both should also know whats best for everyone in the family including themself. (Tho I do agree with what you say about the laws- its quite... messy- and messed up)
@AtheAetheling
@AtheAetheling 2 года назад
@@smithsmith1956 in his own priority list he comes in last yes, because he isn’t selfish. His wife will place him second though, the same as he places her, both equal behind their kid. That’s the deal. Mutual love for each other, combined parental love for the child. Marriage isn’t a scam, you’re very cynical. But you do have to pick your partner carefully.
@smithsmith1956
@smithsmith1956 2 года назад
@@AtheAetheling Not cynical, a realist. Marriage is a scam, just look at the laws and how they're geared to take everything from the man and gives it to the vvomen. It's a wealth transfer scheme. 67% of marriages end in divorce. 80% are filed by the vvomen (thanks no fault divorce). It's a scam. Period. And you should look into some evolutionary psychology studies. The wife is not putting the husband second. Almost no wife will. It's usually the kid, her, her parents, (usually mom then dad), then the husband. It's really rather depressing. I sometimes wish I didn't go get that degree. But I'd rather arm myself with the reality of it all so I don't get taken advantage of myself. And "not all" is not an argument. The exceptions do not disprove the rule. And you shouldn't make decisions off the minority. If you were to go skydiving and the instructor said your chute had a 67% chance of not opening, would you still jump? Because not all the parachutes are defective right? Not all.

Story #3: I had threaten my own mother with being removed from the hospital because she was so out of control. Both grandmothers were in the room during birth.. My daughter had aspirated mercomium during delivery and had to be taken to the Special Care nursery almost immediately after birth. I got to see her as she was rolled through the door, and my wife didn't see her at all IIRC. My mom from this point started slowly becoming more and more manic. "THEY HAVE TO LET ME SEE MY GRANDBABY!" Over and over. She was losing her grip. Pacing and generally being annoying. The Special Care nursery was open *only* to the parents with ID checked wristbands. No other entry was allowed at the time. The family (10 or 12 people) had all moved down to the nursery window to try and see my new daughter, but she wasn't visible from the window. They were all patiently waiting for me to go in and get an update (all except my mom that is). She was still acting crazy withe "They have to keep me see my grandbaby!" BS. 90 minutes after birth *I* hadn't even been allowed in to see the baby yet. She tried pressing her face up to the nursery window trying to get a peek through the lowered and closed miniblinds at the nursery window. Raising and lowering her body trying to catch even the slightest peek like a cracked-out burglar scratching at the glass trying to open a window that isn't there. I should point out the lights were off in this particular room and nobody was even in there neither nurses nor children. She was so manic that I had finally had enough. I in front of the whole family told her to her face, "I haven't even been in to see my daughter yet. Get ahold of yourself or I will have you removed from this hospital! You are acting like a crazy person." Her own mother was telling her to calm down and stop her craziness. The family was in shock I said it, but all of them totally understood why. She took it pretty hard at the time like I just betrayed her, shot Old Yeller and kicked a puppy all at the same time. To this day I doubt she would admit she was out of control, and will laugh it off by saying "They should've let me see my grandbaby".

My mom works for Hallmark vendor and I sometimes join her. You'd be surprised how many arrogant people insist vendors work at the places they stock on. "Well it LOOKS LIKE you work here." happens to my mom probably twice a day. FYI. Vendors have a whole list of stores they have to go to. They don't have time or effort to memorize the layout of every store in the valley. These incidents are surprisingly common. Sadly. Also as a bonus when I worked as a cashier in the Dollar Tree store, I've had people insist I tell them directions to how to get to a completely different store. Like, jeez! Buy a map. Story #3: That husband was so off base siding with his mom, and insulting his wife. His current attitude shows how the rest of their marriage will go. Story #4: That guy was wrong in taking something that didn't belong to him. If it isn't his, or isn't communal, then hands off. Story #5: Again, the husband was siding with his mom, and not supporting his wife. Woman doesn't know her MIL as well as she knows her own mom, so her own mom would be more comfort to her than her MIL. Husband has yet to understand he and his wife are a family, and do not have to have either of their parents involved in their marriage. Because he chose to act like a five-year-old, she should consult a lawyer and get papers ready in case they're needed. Guessing though, MIL is going to cause more problems that husband will side with, and divorce papers will be needed.

I said as a matter of fact I am…moved my off my ear and he saw the hearing aid. I could tell by his face and his wives that he felt about 2” tall. I think he learned a very important lesson that day.

I am siding with all the OP’s on this video. The response by the person who’s lunch was stolen was a bit rough but seeing someone about to eat your food is even rougher. Transferring the food from the container to a plate shows more premeditation, so others need to button their lips. The mother-in-law/daughter-in-law dynamic is well known, but in these two stories the mother-in-law clearly stepped over the line.

Most of these stories make me wonder why "Am I the jerk?" is even a question. Like, what was the deaf person supposed to do in that situation? It was near impossible for him to understand what the Karen wanted, plus she physically assaulted him. If you were just out in public, and some person you've never seen before just walked up to you, slapped you, pushed you to the ground, and started yelling at you, would you treat them with kindness? I know I'd be pissed in that situation.

As a deaf person myself, OP is definitely not the jerk. Believe it or not, people can be so ableist. I haven't been assaulted but I have dealt with many times being pushed, pulled/yanked, grabbed, yelled/screamed at, had small things thrown at me, etc. The only big things I have had was an old lady slamming her cart into my mine because "I was ignoring her", and security guards at one of my old jobs (who knew I was deaf) repeatedly running at me screaming. There are many stories out there of deaf people getting assaulted, beat to the point of needing to go to the hospital, or straight up murdered.

I mean, it's rude, but it's funny. And I completely agree with the advice that was given: if the husband cannot support his wife's decision regarding their child, or her request for privacy, isn't that a red flag that he will continue to not support her decisions in their marriage? So then what kind of a marriage do they have? Couples should communicate with each other and find a solution that works for both of them, but in this case it kind of comes down to who the woman wants in the delivery room with her. I mean, *she's* the patient.
@M1SSC0RPSE
@M1SSC0RPSE 2 года назад
@@danelfernandez6571 that was the point. Men will never understand the pain and stress of childbirth. They don't carry it in their wombs for 9 months while being miserable all the time, having morning sickness, back pain, just the worst possible time ever. They won't have to spread their legs in a compromising and uncomfortable way for everyone to see and try to push the baby out for 1-2 hours. All of this is what the mom has to go through. So she's in her ultimate right to choose who can accompany her. If only her own mom and husband will make her feel okay, then so be it. The MIL is genuinely awful cuz not only did she not take the "no" for an answer and further pushed the question, she deliberately asked this in front of everyone so she'll (look to be) in the right in any outcome....as we unfortunately witnessed. The poor mom to be was 100% right. And the husband is pathetic.

It is an intimate moment when she's literally spread out & vulnerable so having the mother in law come along would feel very invasive unless they held a veeery close relationship and even then it may be a moment she'd prefer to spend with her husband alone to cherish giving their attention to the baby all on their own. Okay so for the baby issue there are a few things to keep in mind. #1 Your spouse is always the most important person what hurts them will hurt you and what helps them will help you so he should have been understanding. #2 It's possible to fill baby bottles ahead of time with breast milk or use formula so that the stepmother could feed the baby if she wants to spend more time with it unless there is another situation that requires the mother to feed the baby. #3 It is common and understandable to immediately hand over a baby to its mother when she needs to feed it so as long as the mother asked respectfully this should not have been a problem and by that I may remind you the mother spoke of how often she would have to beg the stepmother for the baby as well as when she finally lost her patience and That's when everything went south I'm sure the mother could have been more careful with her words but this didn't pop up out of nowhere it's been slowly simmering and boiling till it blew up.

On the story about the woman not wanting her mother in law to be in the delivery room, the woman giving birth has the right to decide who will be present. As a woman, I would NOT want most people, including a MIL, be in the delivery room seeing my private parts as I give birth. For me, I would only want my significant other and my mom in the room. Depending on the relationships and how the family members gets along, having the grandparents be the first to see the new baby after everyone is settled could be reasonable. The MIL choose a really bad time to ask and I don't blame how the OP reacted. She may also be emotional due to being pregnant. If the MIL kept asking and saying she wants to be there and if the OP just snapped, I can definitely understand her reaction.

To not be rude and not offend or hurt anyone, but the way the mother in law acted by asking again was unnecessary by all means due. The fact how the husband treated the OP afterwards was the worst part, so if the mother in law knew how he would react to show the true colors of his would be the only reasonable explanation for asking again and again rudely.

@@Phoenix-vb2us It's his baby too, obviously, but its HER body. He's not the one the baby is coming out of, and he's not the one with his legs spread to push their son out of. Having someone other than your parent, partner, and doctor seeing you in such a compromising position sounds awkward and embarrassing. The MIL could always see the baby right after, it's not about her.

Also, isn't the whole point about having people in the delivery room to help the mother? So obviously she picked the two people who mattered most to her and would make her the most comfortable. It's more than just the baby's first moments that goes down in there. Both mother and child are top priority.

The guy and his lunch,you are not a jerk. You were nicer than I was. My lunch kept coming up missing,so one night I got dog food ( it looked like beef stew ) put it in the bowl and put in frig at work. Went to lunch bowl empty. Next night fixed my lunch a taped a note on the lid that said, I hope you enjoyed the dog food last night. When I got to lunch there was a lot of people sitting around that usually were not. Got my bowl,lunch intact. As I turned around I saw everyone in the lunch room laughing. It made me nervous. Someone finally spoke up and asked if that was mine and said yes. They wanted to know if I really put dog food in my bowl last night,I said yes. They wanted to know why. I told them I got tired of going to lunch and having nothin to eat. I couldn’t catch the person. They told me he was in the bathroom and has been for almost an hour now. Never missed out on lunch after that.

Regarding story #5, it depends. For a C-section, only the mother and doctors should be present to prevent as much germs as possible; as C-section babies tend to be weaker and less resistant to disease and illness. However, for a normal birth the feelings of the mother should be the only consideration, as birth is, apparently, a very stressful situation, and they need emotional support. As such only individual that the mother finds supportive and will actively be supportive should be present. And the number of individuals should also be kept to a minimum.
@JuJu-he8ck
@JuJu-he8ck 2 года назад
She didn't do it for stress bro. It's clear her intentions as you can hear in the way she replied. I get what you are saying but she did it for self entitlement. Look at the way she responded. She said when your son gets pregnant then you can be in the delivery room which is absolutely disgusting. She's doing it because of an ego thing. It doesn't hurt to have the other grandparent in there. If someone feels stressed cause of that there is hatred towards that person even if it's a small amount. The only reason she's not allowing her is cause they don't share blood. It is 50/50 it is the son's baby as well. They need some internal spiritual work to see that to feel uncomfortable because of a person who wants to support is ridiculous.

@@JuJu-he8ckit's a privacy thing as well. MIL can stare at her sons privates for two hours but she's not entitled to stare at someone's Privates, who does not want to have her see their privates. Her own mother birthed her, changed her when she was a baby, she already saw all of that because she produced OP. Mothers are the primary caregivers to their kids, and if their kid is in pain then the mother should be there as comfort if the kid wants her there. The MIL could be some rando from the street staring at her privates while she is in pain. Birth is a vulnerable situation for the mother-to-be.

Story 2: It's time for the new mother to seek a divorce lawyer, because this situation will only get worse as the years pass. I am also disabled. I'm considered Lima still have some.. I worked in a grocery store for like 19 years.. I have some stories but I've I've even more stories in my personal life. I stress this to other disabled people don't be afraid to press charges. Even if you are a man and a woman is attacking you please press charges and don't be afraid to defend yourself if you feel is necessary. Obviously make sure you know the laws of where you live and how far you can take what you can do in matters of self defense. This includes carrying self defense items at their legal where you are depending on the item. Also if you're capable physically of learning martial art or at least some basic self-defense then do it. How I live in Florida and I have a carry permit. For context I've been out firearms and other weapons pretty much my entire life. Don't take crap from toxic people especially if they're trying to get physical.

Story #5 gives us one incident, not enough to go on, and I don’t know how supportive her husband was before this. In #3, MIL is hogging the baby when he’s hungry, and husband lets it happen, that's grounds for divorce because unless OP was mean, that baby wouldn't be fed. But in 5 it's not the biggest problem if MIL isn't there, she's just hurt by how OP put it.

I think the mother to be was quite gentle with the way she turned her mother down. She was polite at first and then used pointed wit on second asking. The fact the MIL run off crying suggests she is either manipulative (crocodile tears to elicit sympathy or she is genuinely upset and will be an overbearing MIL as in number 3) either way the mother to be is not the arsehole but her partner certainly is.

Assaulted in store story: OP, you are NOT the jerk! It doesn't matter what color shirt you happen to be wearing or that it happens to match what the store employees wear, people are NOT ALLOWED TO GRAB OR TOUCH YOU WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT!!! Quite frankly you would have been justified to punch her or throw her to the floor in self defense after she slapped you. It doesn't matter that she thought you were and employee, she's not allowed to slap employees either, though I'm willing to bet she's gotten away with it before. Good on you for pressing charges. Here's hoping she gets a heavy enough sentence to make her think several times before grabbing and slapping people. By the way, did the store ban her? If I were the store manager and saw that she was willing to assault those she though were my employees, I wouldn't want her back in the store again!
