Karl's pond commentary is a pretty eloquent (and funny) summary of a lot of the ancient greek tragedies. Often people in power don't realise how insignificant they are until it's too late. You might be a big fish in a small pond, but you're still in someone's garden. Brilliant🤣🤣🤣
the thing about the saying is that when you're a big fish in a small pond, everyone notices when suddenly you're acting like the big fish you were in a big pond (like someone from a small town being a hot shot, then being humbled when they move to New York City where you aren't cared about) so really what Karl is saying is brilliant because he's saying if he's a big fish in a small pond, you don't want that you'd be unhappy, so you'd move to a big pond which essentially is why the saying is even used
Ricky Gervais once said on Conan that most comedians would die just to be as funny as him, and Karl does it accidentally and he's just trying to explain himself most of the time, what a lad. 😂😂
Karl didn't have the greatest formal education, but I genuinely believe he views the world in almost a genius way. He makes connections that other people don't
I agree. 'The big fish isn't really in charge because he's in someone else's garden' is next level when you stop to think of it. Karl is a deep thinker packaged as a simple one.
Karl Pilkington doesn't have a clue what that's like - Ricky Gervais a comedy genius, shut the fuck up. Stop watering down that word with such a stupid statement.
One thing I like about Pilkington is, He could become president of America and he'd still be Karl Pilkington from manchester. He could win the Noble prize and still he'd be Karl Pilkington from Manchester. He is who he is, Doesn't change his persona no matter who he meets. Very genuine.
*Bald President Pilkington gets back from an exhausting speech* Ricky (his advisor): “Karl don’t sit down, you’ve got a meeting with the prime minister of Madagascar.” Karl: “Bloody hell. It’s doin me ed in.”
The fact that when Karl actually jokes around a little and Ricky laughs even harder than usual and Karl even allows himself a rare smile and a laugh too signifies when genuine friendship shines through between them
“Hang on a minute, who put you in goal?” My favorite, brilliant. He’s truly bewildered to the point of frustration 😂 like he’s got money on the game and would like a word with the coach 😂 Gold
You know you’re doing something right when you make a comedian laugh. Heck even better if you make the always-serious manager/boss laugh their ass off.
Its a yin and yang thing. Ricky is a pretty self aware comedian, who's usually doing something, actively trying to be funny (not in a negative way). When you get hold of a person who seems (or acts) totally unaware, innocent in a way you can't comprehend you ever behaving, you can work off of each other. And boy, did Ricky (and Merchant) milk that combination. If you have seen The Office bloopers, Ricky laughs pretty hysterically at situations where his co-actors get out of character naturally because of something he made them do.
Probably true for most comedians but Ricky is notorious for large, loud, intense outbursts of laughter. He does it all the time, watch some of his outtakes. It's 99% him bursting out into laughter and ruining the take lol.
i absolutely LOVE Karl's view of the universe - he makes me laugh so hard that I have to ration myself to how much I listen to at any one time! The man is a NATURAL comedian ... and he doesn't even know it.
Ricky always laughs and moves like a little kid, it's kind of heartwarming because its awkward but we can tell its genuine and he doesn't hold back one bit. Genuine in everything he does, its great
I’d loved for Karl to have continued the big fish scenario with “and even the person who’s garden it is isn’t in charge because they could rent the property and the landlord would be in charge” 😆
If somebody out there can find that interview with Warrick, Karl and Ricky where Karl goes on about Warrick showing off pictures of his family on his phone while Karl only had a picture of a pigeon, I'll finally be able to pop it on youtube again
I've been searching my HD for the past 2 hours looking for it mate, I know exactly what you mean I just can't remember what it's on. I have pretty much every single video/audio clip with Karl on however big or small it is. If I find it I'll upload it for you. It's bugging the life out of me now.
Even with Karl’s retirement, looking back at it these moments must have been a blast, you only live once and Karl, Ricky and Steve seem to have lots of fun
Two things: I could listen to Ricky's laugh all day Two: First time seeing Karl legitimately laugh & it was worth the wait (even though it's at his own joke lol)
Watching this video with wife sleeping beside me. Karl speaks: Me. Can't hear a thing so turns volume up. Ricky laughs: Turns volume down so wife doesn't wake.
I loved “An idiot abroad” and “The Ricky Gervais show”😂 watched it religiously. I sure miss Karl’s humor and just the way he thinks and talks about life in general. Hysterical 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As often said, Karl was a true find. On his own that wouldn't enough, Ricky's skill of coaxing it out just right was needed. Even then it' that laugh of pure unfiltered joy which really wraps it all up.
Whenever im sad or down i just watch Karl making Ricky laugh. I want to make people that happy, i wanna be Karl. I wish i could make people that happy...
I love Karl and the way he looks at life. Also Ricky, my God just loves all of this. He is lucky to have found Karl and was smart enough to put him is all these shows
InsidiousWolf which is only for a second then he's laughing again he even has to hide it on certain broadcasts so he doesn't be seen being non P.O, i love karl
