If I remember correctly in the old lore Karma agreed with her elders that Ionia should remain pacifist even in the face of the Noxian invasion, and I think that’s a much more interesting position for her character to hold since not even the traditionalist like Shen and Kennen are that unwilling to fight. Maybe she COULD have the mandate from the spirit of Ionia and goes out to destroy the Noxian fleet against her elder’s wishes, but in unleashing her power, is able to feel all of the damage she’s done, experiencing the fear and anguish of the Noxian sailors as they all die traumatizing the shit out of herself in the process, and actively choosing to never inflict that kind of harm on anyone ever again. Like she loves peace and wants the best for all but holds her own values in higher importance than actually helping her people. “The good man doing nothing” (or woman in this case). I think she could be an interesting antagonist to Irelia and her lot of freedom fighters. Eventually I think she’d have to choose to stop making this selfish choice for the sake of everyone else (think Gohan and Android 16’s speech in DBZA). Also if Riot ever does anything with Syndra, Karma would probably be the only Ionia capable of going toe-to-toe with her.
Yeah, there's this weird inconsistency in the narrative of Ionia where there's apparently this more "traditionalist" "pacifistic" movement that has a tug of war against the more "radical" and "violent" new undercurrent, partially represented through various Ionian champions who are in conflict with one other particularly on the question of "new vs old" but we don't actually see these "traditionalists" represented much whatsoever? Like, they're supposed to be the old guard, the ones in control, the status quo that the new wave is going against but they're so bloody absent and powerless that there just isn't a sense of conflict whatsoever and instead Ionia feel needlessly divided in word alone to try and reasonably justify why the whole Ionia vs Noxus conflict is perpetually stuck and neither side is doing much of anything. We've had Shen and Karma representing that side of Ionia previously but now, with those roles of theirs mostly lost, they might as well just drop that entire subplot because it's so one-sided. The Second Invasion is coming, right, Riot? You don't need the excuses anymore.
Still mad Viego managed to mind control her. She is a mighty spirit of nature, he's just some random dead guy, she stomps him easily. That was the point I gave up to league's lore.
Now to be fair viego was infused with all the souls of his sword, the blessed isles holy waters's magic and has the power to command the black mist, he is wayyyy stronger then a mighty spirit of nature.
Karma current lore is a bandaid after riot pulled a Skarner on her during Irelia rework. They tried to explain why everyone follows Irelia by retconing that after Karma (the girl) went all RQ on Noxians for the first time she had a breakdown and Karma (the spirit) locked herself in the temple to pray for forgiveness while Ionia was getting really fucked by Noxus. The players got really mad that Karma was retconed as basically a puppet for an asshole spirit that abandoned the people when they needed her so Riot rapidly changed 3 lines to make her more Irelia-like. It so funny how they got a little lazy so Irelia still really mad at Karma in the game voice lines saying things like "your "peace" lead to nothing but extermination" lol
I actually like karma I feel like she’s important for leagues IP as being the first ever dark skinned woman introduced in the game she may not be the flashiest or lets be honest most fair champ to go against she still holds a nice place in my heart seeing as she was the pioneer for characters like nilah or senna who I love much more than her but is important to look back and really appreciate and respect karma
@@lv4715 nidalee was only been drawn with darker skin on her later art but in the start she was white washed for most of her skins and whenever she kept her skin tone it was more of a light tan rather than actually dark skin like karma
This is where I want the Wild Rift kit in the game. At the very least, her new ult there has such an impact in a match and she fulfills the power fantasy of how much power she has in the lore (like ffs she takes down an entire Noxian army single-handily) I honestly don’t know how I main this champion, but idk I’ve gotten a kick out of her and her gameplay for 2 years already lol. Maybe I’m a boring person then
Karma has been my safe pick for toplane for a long time already so I don't think there's anything wrong with you. Or me. Sett players might think differently though...
Karma has had a few lores. Her 1st summarized. She had superhuman composure and meditated a lot to become enlightened. Was a mediator in her village. Her village fell early to the Noxian invasion but managed to exploit the commander’s insecurities to get the survivors released. Irelia did a last stand, which Karma used against the elders to rally defiance against the Noxians. Became a figurehead of the resistance. Fought with them. Learned from Janna how to make her fans lethal. (her fans were basically family heirlooms, like Irelia’s blades) Her 2nd is basically the same, but she has spirit powers instead of learned wind power. And she explicitly murders a guy to save her village as debut of that power. Her new goal in the resistance is to find a middle way between those that want vengeance against the Noxians and the old way of pacifism. The 3rd is her current lore.
Something to mention about the karma lore, she was the FIRST one to have the 'We should seek peace, but fight back when needed'. The biggest problem that karma fans had was that Irelia had pretty much stole the lore from her. Karma is one of the strongest beings on runeterra but also the most pacifistic ones. It lead Dhara into a problem as she watched her people constantly die while she was doing nothing but meditate. When the Noxian Flag ship (something that was big enough that it dwarfed Swain's Leviathan) came she figured the best thing was to assassinate the general of the fleet and 'cut off the head of the snake'. The problem that Dhara didn't understand was that Karma was so immensely powerful that even a targetted attack against the single individual was enough to just annihilate the ENTIRE FLEET. It sent the spirits of Karma into pure silence that the power that Dhara used was suddenly used for violence, namely the spirit of the previous Karma was so appalled by the idea that he didn't return for years until his lover climbed to the monastery and gave Dhara a ring. I feel like her being mid lane battle mage does fit (her original role when the rework came out, her passive is meant to refresh her ult while her ult gives her several tools to stay in the fight) and her sub role as an enchanter fits too as she was the original 'save and attack' champion with Unholy grail. The problem with both of these is that RE no longer has the damage needed and RW also had it's damage removed. Giving her the no named syndrome that she suffered before this season. If you thought she was powerful with just one item, you'd be massively wrong, karma with ultimate hat before this season was very much the same amount of problematic if not more so. I think it fits that she has this ultimate power but never uses unless needed fits her as Dhara is still inbetween fighting the voices in her head and keeping peace in Ionia. She has several different damaging and teammate protecting tools to do it. But like galio, it's all about damage and 1 shotting with the current meta for people. There is 'A LOT' of risk to Karma's gameplay as well, missing RQ is devastating, as it forces karma to go in with W 'near melee range' to get her R back. Breaking her W on her also hurts her only cc. Her biggest problem rn, is the existence of Tank Karma being an absolute plague to fight against and Mag's existence allowing her to gain ultimate haste on top of ulimate hat. But those are both riot/lcs's fault and not her own.
What I don't get about karma is that when I started playing she was one of those characters nobody cared for, and somehow nowdays she gets like 2 skins per year and it baffles me because it means she's popular now? And I still don't see people loving karma the same way people do the other mega popular champs. I rarely see her in game outside of aram In a way reminds me of zyra. Nobody gave a crap about her but then one day she started getting skins and prestiges and I still don't see her in game. It's like if the mains for these champs don't even play league. They log in to buy the skins and then do something else
@@Sean-fz8if i know she got a lot of attention as the first female tank in league, but not sure if that alone warranted so many skins. probably helps that she always had one job that she does very well, so she never truly becomes powercrept. if single target lockdown is the meta for supports, then leona will be relevant
I liked a lot about her kit prior to her rework. Gameplay wise she embodied duality pretty well. Her abilities were all supportive, but if you used her mantra with it (dont remember if it was called that at the time) it would do an aggressive effect as well. The only exception was her tether. It could be used on ally or enemy and would slow or speed up repsectively, doing a little damage to enemies while using the empowered version would just do an amplified version of the slow or speedup. Her Q was just a cone blast of energy that would heal allies, and damage enemies when empowered. Shield ws pretty much the same as now, but rather than shield multiple allies when empowered, it would deal damage around it. Her old kit definitely handled duality better than her modern iteration, but her modern one handles lore a lot better.
pro tip : if you're in a ranged v ranged matchup in bot lane you need to contest the shove, these matchups all go the same more or less. If they want to punish you for shoving it's hard because they have no engage and ranged supports usually have some form of disengage (Zyra e, Lux q, Lulu uhh everything) It's ridiculous how easy it is and how few people know to execute it.
. . . . . I could not didagree harder at that skin argument. She has some of the most beautiful skins in league, especially the dragon one. Luke Orianna she can pull off almost anything because of the amazing potential for gorgeous spell effects . . . Well mostly just their Q but still.
Twitch pinging and going afk Mid saying “EZ ASF” Jungle saying “Jungle GAP” And gragas being nowhere in the video and still saying “top gap” Really just sums up the league of legends experience
I don’t really agree with the baggy clothes that show no skin and have the kinda pope vibe for karma because it’s Ionia and that doesn’t really fit with the region imo. If it was a spiritual leader of let’s say demacia or shurima I would fully agree tho
i like playing karma for her poke while still having access to shields but she usually feels either super weak or really strong depending on the patch. also yeahh i wish she had more cool skins or an update to her base model that made it a little less stiff and could make some of those older skins look a little more fluid n polished
Karma needs a full rework. She’s really outdated on all fronts. Gameplay wise, she has really toxic patterns. When she’s strong enough to solo lane, she dominates the meta, but if she’s not, she’s borderline irrelevant. She basically just R+Q spams all game, eventually becoming a shield bot later on, really boring stuff. When it comes to her narrative I agree with Nicki. She should embody the spirit of Ionia and remain peaceful but persistent through non-violence during the noxian invasion and the ruination, having all of this offensive power but only using it to heal her allies. Then, during the ruination, she gets corrupted and turns massive swaths of Ionia into burning wastelands. Then, when she’s freed, she has to reckon with what she’s done, and that internal conflict can be her main driver forward.
I always found Ionias dilema a little silly . Like shen believes in the balance and will do whatever is nessesarry to stop human or spirit to maintain it(with one of his two swords so violence). But the Noxians aren't disrupting the balance?
The thing with Karma skins is that the better skins are in my opinion the cheaper ones. Yes Dark Star is an outlier, but sun goddess and sakura look surprisingly good for the cheaper price point.
Now, While I hate what they did to Karma in Ruination, I think she deserved a legendary skin right there, just imagine the potential of only twisting her personality, it could have been one of the best legendaries out there, so much wasted potential
It would have been really funny if Karma was still a pacifist under Diego's control and was just trying to give him a therapy talk all the time until he got sick of her and told her to go back to Yonia since he could not kill her.
New idea for April Fools skins: Traditional Ryze for pre-rework and Traditional Traditional Ryze for pre-pre-rework. And the same thing with Mordekaiser.
Karma could be SUCH a cool character with a compelling story. Honestly, I can not really understand how riot dropped the ball. I think she is a cool visual design, she has a lot of (imo) good/cool skins. Although I would have been soo happy if we've got "Coven Karma"... 😔
This is only slightly on topic but my friend thinks Karma is *THE* absolute hottest champ in LoL and I'm just like... "really? *HER?* " I guess there's worse choices but, still doesn't make sense to me
When you say that you’d expect Karma to wear baggier clothes cause she’s more religious, did you mean smth more like Lady Jessica once she’s Reverend Mother in Dune?
As someone who hit 60k+ mastery mostly on tank Karma, I can confirm that that I did indeedplay her just to annoy people. It often worked (and is apparently one of the vest counters to Fiora whixh is quite nice).
a lot of mage supports WERE primarily midlaners. the problem is that assassins essentially forced them to relocate, and the only mages that are relevant in midlane are the ones who can defend themselves against assassins somewhat at least i think that is the issue. not entirely sure myself, and not sure why people would not respond with bruisers into midlane to counter assassins
@@Underworlder5 Also Riot keeps "nerfing" them as supports, but the nerfs really make them even more useless as midlaners. The previous Lux nerfs were a joke, they nerfed her mana regen and minion damage because they wanted her to be played mid, but those things where what made her stick more to support. Riot doesn't know with they are doing. Either way, I'll always have more respect for Velkoz, Lux or Brand mid than support, my botlanes only allow Catchers, Enchanters and Tanks.
One of my friends only play with champions that pisses off a lot of people by being annoying or something that's really broken at the moment She really likes tank Karma
I definitely recommend LoK seasons 3 and 4! Season 1 is pretty good as well imo, except for the abrupt ending but that had its reasons. Just gotta sit through 2 really. :p
Dude, atheists aren't opposed to the idea of there being a god or higher power. It literally just means "someone who lacks belief in a god." The term "agnostic" is not a midway point between "theist" and "atheist", it addresses a completely difference question. Where "theist" and "atheist" address the question of "are you convinced that a god exists; yes or no?", "gnostic" and "agnostic" addresses the question of "can you produce evidence that supports [insert claim here]." If you aren't convinced in the existence of a god or higher power, then you *are* an atheist. That is what that word means and *yes,* it *is* a broad term that applies to a LOT more people than are willing to call themselves such.
i think a lot of people use agnostic as a softer way to imply that they aren't ferverent in their belief god does or does not exist. in many online spaces atheism is associated with those who are really adamant a god cannot exist and people don't want to be grouped into that extremism. culturally, i understand why he uses agnostic as a less connotationally negative term for his lack of belief. as he said he doesn't believe at the present time but is not against the concept one may be real at all, which is what more committed atheists can preach
@@chuuli That is a gross overgeneralization of atheists and linguistically confusing. Making that implication *feeds* that negative connotation. Not to mention, it's just inaccurate. The vast majority of atheists *are agnostic atheists.* They are not as extreme as that implication suggests, so defaulting to the idea that "atheists believe a god cannot exist" also deprives the language we use of an extant word that can be--and is designed to be--used ONLY to refer to the lack of god belief. If someone wants to specify that they are an agnostic atheist, they can say they are an agnostic atheist, the same way someone can say they are an agnostic theist. English is an already-busted language, these bologna implications don't need to make communication even harder.
Remember, there is a difference between being a pacifist and being passive. The monks wanted Karma to be passive, but Karma was a being a true pacifist by taking the route that leads to the least amount of violence and suffering.
Not a huge fan of the sheer amount of negative tude u bringing to every champ review. I get that there are negatives that are not fun or are things you don’t appreciate but the intro to the video being full of complaints really brings down the mood of the video.
agree! I enjoy Nicky‘s quips most of the time but I think as someone who enjoys unpopular and even disliked champions he should understand that it does suck having to constantly hear negativity about your fave
always remember: Ionia desrves to be enslaved, exploited and destroyed by Noxus because of the shitty champs that comes from there (which are between a third and a half of the roster at thsi point)
i hate karma. so much so that in my friendgroup we call her "support btw" cause every single time we face one it feels like she outclasses everyone no matter the champ or roll also, LESS GOOO. My Boi is next week. i'm getting myself ready to hear not great things about him plus crying after him no longer being considered a midlaner, like i do on a daily basis
I think you're right when u talk abt her appearance because I didnt know her lore at all and never would've guessed that she was like a divine/supreme or even known and respected authority tbh I just assumed she was some Ionian girl with magical powers or something lol
