Great video Michael. Thanks for the shout out. Yes geltip bulb SHD knots are soap gobblers for sure. I’ve switched to using boars as well and I’ll finding that each knot has its purpose for each different shave. That’s what I love so much about old school Wetshaving...there is a science behind the art as well. Again great shave and video. Hope you enjoy the brush for many years to come. Also I love all my Zingari soaps as well. Great slickness and cushion.

Really good review and shave, Michael! That's a lot of new stuff! I was fortunate enough to pick up a Heritage Collection Shaving Ever-Ready 200 tribute brush. Mine has a 2-Band Finest fan knot. The handle is just beautiful! The polish is amazing. I do own a vintage Ever-Ready brush that is very similar to this tribute/legacy brush, so that's fun. Thank you for your impressions of the new products! Cheers! -Rob

As usual, I am a couple of years behind you in terms of software. Just picked up a couple of Zingari Man sets. Apparently the aftershave splashes, which is a "new formulation," are terrific. Wishing we could meet for drinks more often so I can pick your brain!

I'm totally agree with you on the changing of the weather and having to adapt your shave. Being from Minnesota the air really gets dry in the winter, in addition to that I have hard water. To help combat that I purchased The Cube from Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements. Not only do I use it as a preshave soap, but also as a daily face wash to help my skin in between shaves.

Nice shave Michael💈💈 It's hard to complain about any offerings from Karve shaving, they are definitely top quality. The problem I find with SHD badger knots is the lather retention, bulbs are worse than fan or hybrid knots🤔 You're right, a heavy loading is certainly beneficial for the lather to release. With that being said, a good 15 or 20 uses will usually remedy the lather hog scenario as the brush breaks in. Great video as always. Enjoy!
@mfreedberg

That knot is pretty greedy, but now I (and you all) know what to expect! So dense, just eats up the soap, but that is easily fixed. I may need to use it again a couple days a week to break it in...good advice!

Interesting to see the brush performance on the third pass. When you hear about the excellence of a brush at "releasing" the soap then see how greedy that brush was, I was worried for you until you returned to the soap.
@mfreedberg

Well, that initial last lather would have been fine to shave with, even as thin as it looked, but no reason to waste all that great lather!!

Great shaver n colour combination. I shave Karve brass CC B+D plates. Then risked F-plate OC. Was expecting a biest, but no. Comfortable, with results of R41+. Its amazing, how they do it, no idea. Hv fun, Michael.

The head geometry keeps the edge under very good control, so even with the larger blade exposures, the razor never feels out of control in use -- so good!!

I have the C/D/F SB plates as well as the OC-F. I shave 2-3 times a week and typically use the SB-D the most. Not sure if I want to go with the OC-C or OC-D plate

1. This soap could be compared with which one, performance based? 2. If I tell you that I like shaving with Rockwell on #6,#5 which plate will you recommend on the Karve. *3. Where is the one handed rinsing technique, obtained after 20 years of training in Himalaya?*
@mfreedberg
@mfreedberg 4 года назад
1. Noble Otter, Southern Witchcraft, maybe Storybook Soapworks, there are a lot of very good soapmakers out there right now. 2. If you like a bit more blade feel on the skin, I think the D plate would be the #5 and the E plate would be the #6, but I have to say - I like the Karve more than the Rockwell. 3. Sometimes I need to use both hands, make sure I don't lose my complete set of face rinsing skills. Best to keep mixing things up, keep people on their damn toes!

Wondering if you’re planning on reviewing the Gillette Pure shaving cream. I tried it recently and was pretty impressed. Very protective and slick. No irritation.

No, but I am interested in trying it out -- I like what they are doing in order to break back into the more traditional wetshaving market and people really seem to like it!

How much better is the Sego from Siero? Or are they the same, performance based?
@edwardmiles6513

The razor's head looks a lot like the Gillette Long Comb New, which also seems moderately aggressive. How do the two compare: is the similarity real or superficial? Also, I don't think the Goal is still made, and Gillette appears to have just brought out a new blade in India (the "Winner": hmmmmm). I get the impression that Gillette frequently cycles its blades under new names (particularly in India) to make old products seem new. How does the Goal blade compare to other Gillettes i.e. what current Gillettes might it be most similar to. (Sorry to end a sentence with a preposition, and best wishes.)
@mfreedberg
@mfreedberg 4 года назад
I think the teeth on the New are sharper and less comfortable. The Karve is much more comfortable, while the New *may* be a touch more efficient (or maybe just feels it because of the blade edge?). I liked the Goal blade, but it's not like it rocked my world. I would still go for the Silver Blues over the Goal, for sure! Maybe the Goal is closer to the Platinum or perhaps the 7 O'Clock PermaSharp Stainless (India)?

Just gotta ask. Having tried both the steel and the aluminum version of the Karve, which one do you prefer and why (all else the same)?
@mfreedberg
@mfreedberg 4 года назад
Sorry I did not see this before! I like the look of the aluminum one better, and it has better texture on the handle -- so it would win over the stainless steel in that regard. The SS does feel more substantial and solid, which is a big positive, but if I had to choose, I would lean toward the aluminum today.

A nice tight package, plus the c-mon deluxe. Date night 1975. i can hear the Bee Gees. i read phonetically. Great soap and razor. Don't care for the brush that much, wasteful and high maintenance. Those edges of the blade extending past the razor are less than ideal. T
@mfreedberg
@mfreedberg 4 года назад
The gel tip process makes this a VERY "greedy" knot, which you can easily work with once you know that. I do really like the vintage look, though, and it 's a great option to have those available again, albeit as a replica. I hope that Karve will update the design of the razor head to reduce, if not eliminate, the end tab exposure -- let's see what the future holds!

Great shave Michael. I never heard of the Gillette Goal blades before. Speaking of Gillette, what do you think about their new DE safety razor that they're releasing November 1st, 2019 over on Amazon. It's called Gillette Heritage. Here's the link which can preorder it: www.amazon.com/Gillette-Heritage-Inspired-Double-Safety-Razor/dp/B07XPRRV9Y/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Gillette+heritage+razor.&qid=1571597113&sr=8-4 ^ It kindly reminds me of an Edwin Jagger DE89 in a lot of ways and I can say the blades that come with it are really good which I use in my Fine Accoutrement's Marvel DE. I also have to adapt my skin often due to weather conditions in addition to allergies.
