When Eminem heard Kasey Chambers’ poignant take on “Lose Yourself,” his positive reaction mirrored more than simple approval. By granting Chambers the nod to feature her cover on Spotify, Eminem displayed a genuine respect for her craftsmanship-a sentiment many of Eminem fans of Kasey Chambers undoubtedly share.
There is not a single bit of proof that em has ever heard this song. I believe he doesn’t even own the rights to his old songs anymore (could be wrong with that bit) As for it being on Spotify if you didn’t know Spotify has been sued by thousands of artists for allowing copyrighted songs on Spotify I really wish people would check facts before repeating rumours.
Honestly, think of the balls it takes to take probally the greatest rap song ever written and twist into something where youre all alone with just your audience and a fkn banjo. And she smashes it like a pinata. Massive respect.
As a fellow Aussie I must admit I hadn't given Chambers much time and then she punched me, broke a bottle over my head, pulled me off the stool and I whimpered at her feat. Just through this one performance. What a fool am I. Live and learn. Great reaction brother
Spot on. Yeah I'm from Aus too, and I never really listened to her coz I thought she was a bit too 'country' for my tastes. I was wrong too. I'm now a new fan of hers. x L.
She grew up in the Dead Ringer Band, that's her brother on rhythm guitar and backup vocals and her Father on lap steel slide guitar. She's been playing on stage since age 12 and is Australian musical royalty. She's lived this song.
It's sooo good! Eminem gave her permission to release this on her Spotify. The music is of the live recording... But the video is from fan videos. She asked for fans to send in their videos from this concert & then she cut them together to make this 🔥
I like the fact that it took all of 16 seconds, @2:16, for you to realise what a monster hit this was. Also Anthony, best reaction ever!! I loved how you deconstructed it, and it's true, to be able to take the lyrics and turn it into a blues/rock ballad is next level. I like how you, as an artist, can still be genuinely surprised, so well done Anthony. btw, love your music. btw I've watched so many more reactions to this cover, and you still amaze me with your reaction, and ooh, I teared up hearing her performance
Who knew that thrashing metal banjo and slide guitar was something missing in our lives? Apparently Kasey Chambers knew. By the way, that's her dad on slide guitar. Kasey and her dad are country music royalty here in Australia, but she never lets genre define her and is willing to go wherever her talent leads. This is what you get when you put that talent into COVID lock down with nothing to do but play with music.
Best reaction EVER! I’m the mother of a son who grew up loving Eminem and I recently came across this mind blowing performance! She encompasses the definition of badass and quickly earned my respect! Thank you Anthony for breaking it down the way you did…it’s even better, if that’s possible! Shared with my boy and he got goosebumps as well…Lord forgive me for the times I asked him to turn down his music! SHAMEFUL🤦🏼♀️
I think we all knew at the start, that a man of your musical integrity, knowledge & appreciation, would truly understand what Kasey & her band have done there. Kasey is mainly a Country singer, with a huge following down here in Australia. But every now & then she crosses into other genres. She is a huge fan of Eminem, and she certainly did him proud with this homage to him. I sincerely hope he has seen it. Just a note. They asked for members of the audience to send in video clips from their phones. Those clips made up a fair bit of this video. That's why the images weren't pristine throughout. But what a brilliant concept.
He has definitely seen it, because Kasey has it on streaming platforms now which means he has to approve covers to be on there. The writers and owners of original songs must approve for a cover to be on streaming services
Eminems lose yourself is one of the best songs ever made, now it's one of the best songs ever made TWo TIMES!!!kudos to Kasey, that how to perform live!!
You know that the poor banjo was going to be shredded when she pulled out that pic. The song is hers, she's made Emimen's song hers, as good as the original if not better. Kassey leaves blood sweat and tears on stage - nothing left in the tank when shes finishes a live performance, let alone the studio
I've heard Ms Chambers before and it's always a treat. But honestly, where else will you find a rap song turned into bluegrass banjo headbanging? Incredible! Love your reaction and analysis, man, thank you.
Kasey & Eminem are almost contemporaries, she's 4 years younger & broke through in the US with "Am I Not Pretty Enough" back in 2001 (compare: Lose Yourself came out in 2002) & she spent her teen years performing with her family's country band in Australia. In the US she's classed as alt country. But shes the background where she can relate. You've got to be good live to really get places here usually, although with fewer venues, tv shows & internet occasionally turn up good performers. But its no coincidence that Tones & I (another Aussie) did street performing to hone her skills. I digress. Try Pretty Enough or "Ain't No Little Girl" if you want something gritty "The Captain" was a hit here too but personally not one I really like.Think she's always listened to Eminem & this was a covid lockdown project from what she's said in interviews. 😊
Australian music, pub rock... live shows.... ARE BRILLIANT..... no bullshit, no autotune...... no wonder we aren't really that interested in international artists.... unless they conform to our standards... otherwise we'll fucking boo them off the stage lol
My God this girl is FIRE. 14:54 gave me a case of those almost-painful full leg goosebumps. Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about... or maybe it's just a me thing lol
It's not just you. Kasey killed it and watching reactions is now my favourite past time. I'm so proud she is Aussie and I think her version topped Eminems
A huge thank you to your patron who got you to react to this. It’s one of those once in a lifetime performances and the world needs to see it. I’m hoping that other big reactors take it on and discover the magic and send it viral. Great reaction.
The first two verses are in the "third person", then the drop, then it's all in the first person. What a PERFECT placement on that drop, emphasizing that the past is over. God DAMN Em is a great writer And Casey deconstructed every word and pieced it back together in a way that's even MORE moving that the original. This was an amazing reaction. Thank you.
Good to hear a proper music person react to our sweetheart, and she is a sweetheart, this is her most dynamic song by far. Loved your reaction and you have a new subscriber.
Kasey's about 10 years my junior and as a young fella I used to buy fish and chips from her parents' shop in Southend, South Australia. Her whole family is musical (that's her dad on the slide guitar). We are all extremely proud of Kasey. I don't know how many times I've watched her video for this song or other reactors, but it just don't get old. Thanks for the reaction. Liked and subbed. Love from Aus.
I'm from Adelaide SA and my first thought was 'Where tf is Southend??' 😆 But I see from the map that it's not on the main road that goes through all those beachy areas down south. Hence why I've been to Kingston SE, Robe, and Beachport, but not Southend.
Man this happened in my home town and for longest time I considered Kasey Chambers a washed up pop star from the early 2000s whos one song was rubbish...I have never been more humbled. She's rock bansheee who has more musical talent in her left pinky than I have in my entire body. Sadly Kasey kinda did miss her 1 shot unless you really really followed her career, it gives me chills to hear this story from the side of someone who didn't quite catch it. Kasey was chewed up, spit out, and boo'd off stage and you can feel that pain in her song here. She's showing you the pain in the struggle that didnt win.
I'm at that 8 minute mark and this is dope AF bro dope dope. Love when artist can take something and put their own signature to the writing of another artist and bring such a whole new feel on it a diff vibe but the story rings still solid but this was a deeper feel on it imo
Kasey is an OG in Australia and has expressed how she's been a huge Eminem fan for the last 20 years and how he has inspired her as a song writer, great reaction bro
That was fukn amazing. You are totally correct - she put it all out there, nothing held back and that makes all the difference. This was highly entertaining. Very well done
Sounds like you may really enjoy Aussie music. Cold Chisel - Bow River (live 2003) This specific performance goes off, and will leave you just as impressed as you were with Kasey. The harmonica in this will also leave you speechless, being played like you have never heard one played before. Australia’s best pub rock band. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8XROTDWVgGs.html&pp=ygUSQm93IHJpdmVyIHJpbmdzaWRl
Thanks for doing this one! Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was Lose Yourself for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.
Seen a few reactions. It's a very unique captivating performance. Yours has been the first genuine admiration I've seen. Most are jumping on the 'craze' of the moment..... I wonder if the band and Kasey herself realised at the time what they have done? Masterpiece!
Now THIS is a reaction - I've seen every one of the reaction videos out there of this performance and yours was fantastic (not a fan of the spoilers at the beginning as I prefer to watch it unfold blindly, but I digress). You gave it the respect it derseves and understood how amazing it was that she re-imagined it and chose an arrangement that totally honours the original but puts a new spin on it. It was another reactor who got me on to this cover and I'll never forget how surprised I was as it unfolded. This earned you a new subscriber.
Wow. Best reaction i've seen to this awesome performance. Informative and you seem to know your stuff. You have a new australian subscriber. Love to see your reacts to more aussie talent.... john farnham, jimmy barnes , guy sebastian.... and more..... always do live performances for our legends
She also can relate a lot to the emotion behind the song, she’s had a tough time in both her music career and her personal life. She also put this together during COVID lockdown so that just t added an extra layer.
Awesome explanation of the power and smarts of Kasey Chambers, the family played with the tune over Covid lockdown and boy did they do it justice, g'day from down under in Oz
Brilliant! Kasey didn't just 'SING' this Kasey 'LIVED' it. Slowly telling the story...then showing the emotion of the song....then ANGER! Wow I had my hand on my heart and tears in my eyes... I believe Eminem would appreciate this performance from Kasey, as she sang his lyrics with such passion. Loved your reaction and analysis too Anthony. Liked and subscribed, waiving from Australia.
The crazy part is that she's normally just country and western. Not only did she change the song but she changed the way she normally performs. That is the cherry on top of all that musical wizardry right there. Amazing YT musical experiences like that don't happen a lot.
Love your reaction to this unique rendition of Kasey who is a Country Singers reworking of this iconic song. Another great cover is Cold Chisels Wild Thing from their Last Stand tour One of the best live performances lve ever seen with them making this song their own just as Kasey did.
You said it exactly the way I felt it, watching this live performance. I have seen Kasey live years ago and she was brilliant but this performance is that of a hardened tested professional that has taken her art to a new level. And your reaction was just perfect for me to enjoy seeing it again like new. Thank you and all the best for the channel.
a musical work of art and the band is also sensationally good. I'm 55. I've attended hundreds of concerts in my life and heard countless cover versions, but this Eminem song has been brilliantly reinterpreted.
Thanks for a brilliant reaction. This is one of the best I've seen to Kasey's version and I've seen a lot. I really enjoyed your detailed explanation of the variation Kasey applied to this whilst respecting the original. You've won a new subscriber, cheers mate.
The way Kasey can hold the attention of a music hall audience with just a her voice is amazing… I’ve heard her live a few times and she never ceases to amaze me…
😂So happy you found this our Kasey is super special long past time we shared her with the rest of the world. Her rendition of Lose Yourself hits hard so emotional raw and powerful ❤❤❤
Great "cover", isn't it? Another couple of superb covers by Australian artists: John Farnham: "Help" live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - another "cover" that is really a "new" song; Cold Chisel: "Wild Thing" (last stand) live - a straight up cover that pretty much captures the wild thing ethos. [Apologies if you have already watched them but if you have I couldn't find them.]
Eh, I've been a fan for well over twenty years. But even apart from that, when I see something truly special, I become an evangelist for it, if I can. You were probly there when I harangued Brad about it. But it worked! ork ork ork.
I am a Slayer/Pantera/Jinjer fan who got dragged kicking and screaming to a Kasey Chambers gig at the Coogee RSL back in 2003... never have I headbanged at a gig more than that show, and they call her 'Country'...?!?! Kasey is truly special, swear if she was a blonde haired blue eyed blonde she would be bigger than Beyonce... she definitely is far more talented! Play a banjo Beyonce, let's see how truly musically skilled you really are... Kasey representing Aussie ugly, facts. X
Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be entered into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.
Always love reactors reactions to the change between soft solo and full rocky angst! 😂❤ Just wish I could have been in the audience…it would have been so mind blowing!
You - Oh the climax ---- people who have seen it --- wait dude there's more. Nothings perfect in this world but when it comes to covers this just might be close.
Holy shit sherlock...that was unreal...followed Kasey Chambers and Paul Kelly too... for ages, this just knocked the socks off of my sockless feet....one of my fav eminem songs to boot.. who'da thought she had that in herself...you go girl!!
I’m old, and I’m hearing a bit of the Eagles in here; a few chords of Hotel California 😮 I can’t stop listening to this!! ❤❤❤❤ My gosh, I love it!! ❤ I’m SHOOK!!😮
It was epic. I'll be listening again and again. I love Kasey Chambers. Yes, I'm Australian. She has been around a long time. I don't like country music generally but all her music is an exception for me. It's just all so moving and wonderful. A true artist. Love you, Kasey.
I still think this is a high up top shelf reaction. Always with the shivery goosebumps for this adaptation of a brilliant work by the master. Ms Chambers knows how fame goes up and down
Wow, now I have a girl crush! She is everything you want when you are at a concert and you are carried away in the words to that song and she plays with it just a tiny bit❤
While you watch this performance remember Kasey is a very well known Country star here and her band is also very modern country. I have seen her live at least 20 times but not like this ! WHAT A TRANSITION! Thanks for your respect for this very fine artist as she writes most of her own material. I believe this was the very first time she ever sang this live. Her dad Bill is on the slide guitar to her right. Amazing to say the least.
Don't get why people put the big moments of the song and reaction as a preview before the reaction has begun?? It's like giving away the ending of a movie before you watch it 🤷♂️
I hadn't heard this song from Kasey until just the other day, not to say I am not a fan but this is so different from her other music. Now, I'm even more of fan. Great reaction mate, you've discovered another Aussie talent.
