Nice game. Also, the personal insights and comments (like about Kasparov) make it very interesting.

This just reminded me -- back in the 70s the BBC pioneered chess tv with players voice-over their recollections of the game, and utterly fab it was too. Miles wasn't yet a Grandmaster and Short still a schoolboy; mebbe that's why it was called The Master Game :-) If you hadn't retired from play you could bring it back for primetime air. I'll be reckless and say I'ld even dust down my telly and buy a license for it.

The Mastergame was fun, I grew up watching it too! But the format is too dated now: we have moved to the online tournaments

@Geoff M We had something similar here in the netherlands. I think the show was called 'Man en Paard' by Hans Böhm. Something like that. I cannot remember the exact name. And for some strange reason I cannot find it anymore??! Anyway, what I want to say here is, these shows were not meant for advanced players. It was meant to popularize the game. And they did an okay job at that. We had to rely on Daniel and I remember Schach der Großmeister with Hort for our chess dosis. I don't even speak a word german. lol Now, everything is so much better with the internet and I'm so happy Daniel is still around.

Brilliant combination. Finally you have to reveal your secrets. Alone from this game I learned some important things: - you like your bishops - split rooks are not always bad - we know from whom Alpha Zero got the h4 idea 😀

Thanks to your Patreons! What a good game! And that story about Kasparov! At the end, as every tournament player knows, your worst enemy is not opposite of you. But between your ears. Therefore it's great to see games by normal super-heroes. Not only by aliens like Tal, Kasparaov and Carlsen.

Bravo Mr King - another gem ! It therefore gives me great pleasure to invite you to audition for the lead role for episode 7 of the Middle Earth franchise - 'Gandalf the Younger'. The story traces the adventures of the young, glabrous Gandalf brandishing his chess wizardry across the land on his quest to vanquish the brooding chess genius behind the black drapes. This was a very nice tactical game Daniel. Very deep calculation and a lot of guts to put a rook on such a scary square. I know you like to play the Ruy and I know it was 1989 , but I wonder if you ever considered and was prepared to face the Berlin (3. .. Nf6) instead of the traditional 3. .. a6 ? Hard for me to take sides because me was born an raised in Holland but have the British nationality. You know that in 1989 Johns regular job was a butcher !

Daniel, from the 1st quarter on, you had a pretty good game to go. Did you try with a good machine, how quicker you could have beayen him??? Anyway, the humanity in this match, makes it more interesting, your fear of maki g a mistake even you feel you are much stronger especially after 50% of the match, only a mistake by you could have ruined it, but congrats, a real nice match.
