Kasper is a great goalie so it’s a good signing given we are getting him for free! The recruitment overall is a shambles and we can only hope that they actually spend some of the fortune that has been amassed on improving the first team! Idah and Bernardo are ok but they are not improving the first team! We still need a LB, CB ,CDM, Winger and Striker!( A no10 if MOR is sold)🍀😁
Good to have you guys back and as you probably know I am a big Kenny fan who talks so brilliantly well about our club. I think it is a decent short term appointment and buys us time to get a younger proper replacement in say within a couple of years.
Oh is heading to Racing Genk. They are a club who are incredibly good at recruitment (within their limited budget). Their coach changes very regularly (about every 18 months) but they run with a Sporting Director who is extremely knowledgeable (and committed to the club) PLUS they have Eric Gerets (former Belgium captain and experienced manager) as their Chief Exec. So their equivalent of Michael Nicholson is an experienced, highly regarded football man. Genk were recently ranked 6th out of 800 clubs in recruitment over the last 5 years. I suspect they know what they are doing with Oh.
Great comments from Kenny about Losing a leader on the pitch, someone Brendan trust’s and a capable keeper ,,Kasper is all that and more , good signing for me 🍀
Who knows who else that have perhaps tried to get. I’m well pleased. Hopefully money available to spend more on new recruits. Another quality striker. Idah secured and then a good solid defender.
Good signing & hes got experience of playing in Scotland as played for Falkirk many years ago & as it's a freebie there should be a bit more of a transfer budget
--> Kenny is giving the most realistic, no-nonsense opinion on the signing. For those frustrated with the signing, please listen to him before griping. --> Having said that, it would be very nice if the club signs a young GK who can maybe handle the cup matches and gain experience for the 25-26 season. Right now, there's no #2 GK on the bench.
It IS a lazy appointment. I see some online resources talking about selling before buying, but unless the board tell us what they are going to do with the money; then we must maintain the pressure. The euro coefficients say it all. The question to Lawell must be, is he satisfied with our coefficient? Then we ask the rest. We want euro success, does the board? Does kasper change that? No!
Peter Lawwell is the honory non executive chairman. What is it got to do with him? The Celtic CEO has a name but it seems to be unknown to every Celtic fan on the planet except me.
@@John-qy9nw whoopy do for you being the only one with that level of insight. Question still applies; is he happy with our coefficient rating? I leave it to you with your higher level knowledge to ask that question to our “custodians”. If you could be so kind to pass that on. I would appreciate it.
@@CS-mv2ty I would prefer to call an EGM and have Mr Nicholson and the entire board dismissed, a new chief executive and board elected and a proper footballing and recruitment department infrastructures put in place so that we don't look like a bunch of f**king amateurs. It should not take too much to work out Peter Lawwell has not been CEO since the summer of 2021. I have NEVER heard Michael Nicholson's name mentioned by any Celtic fan in protest over our disastrous last 4 transfer windows, soon to be 5. I would imagine he cannot comprehend European coefficients. If he could he would notice that Copenhagen, a club with probably half the wage bill performed excellently in the champions league last season, Olympiakos with a smaller wage bill have a European trophy in their possession. This is a serious matter, very serious indeed. Oh, and yes, I do think I am ever so clever if you absolutely must know. You almost made some decent points but then you did the west of Scotland thing where anyone purporting to know anything about anything automatically has to be brought down as a know it all. Well done. Let's hope that Rangers get another sh**ty 85 point total and we MAY just get away with it. Again.
Brilliant signing, still a top goalkeeper. If we went onto the market for a 27year old with similar ability it would cost minimum £20million. Hopefully we'll get Ndidi in the door aswell
As the Danish Manager doesnt rate the Scottish league will Kasper still get called up ? and if so could that fact convince Matt to stay on for another season at least?
If he isn't intending to retire from international football he could be eyeing up one last hurrah at the 2026 World Cup .. that could work to our advantage @@CelticFansTV he wouldn't be first keeper to play at a tournament at 40yr old
If we signed a young keeper and he was any good we'd sell him anyway after 2 seasons, we'd make money but it would just end up in the pot adding to the soaring share price. Great analysis Bhoys.
Short termism at its finest. However as a stand alone signing it may work if we were to also sign another goalkeeper to succeed Schmeichel whether he's here for 1 or 2 years. The goalkeeper at Sparta Prague that we were linked with (Jensen) is also Danish but he's not going to come here to be No 2. I want us to also sign Schmeichel's successor and show a bit of long term planning.
Although im relatively happy with Schmeichel as a signing, it really does show Celtic up in how they do their transfer dealings. How long have they had to prepare for Joe Hart leaving? And the best option they could come up with is someone Rodgers will have in his phonebook.
Yes, it's a strange one. I think it's a really good signing on paper, but given the backdrop around recruitment for the last 18 months - the symbolism isn't great.
Exactly correct, Scott Bain is the perfect 3rd choice but nowhere near good enough for 2nd. The best way to get a decent level 2nd GK is to promise him the League Cup and possibly even SC.
@@Walker010 I fear that you may be correct. Was supposed to be the GK to be developed to take over from Hart and we will now need to find same to take over from Schmeichel in 12/24 months.
We actually had a year, Joe was in the final year of his contract, and indicated at the start of the season that he wasn’t thinking beyond the end of the season.
Some great points, Kenny. Still feel it points to a lack of overall strategy in terms of recruitment. It also speaks to BR seeing out two more years but certainly it’s better than a £4m punt on what could be another Barkas. Let’s hope we are working on a younger No 2 who could take over in a year (or two)….👍🍀
Spot on assessment Kenny. Schmeichel playing at a higher level than hart was. We could get 2 /3 years out of him. Also say we sign a 25/26 year old keeper who does amazing, clubs with more money will take him anyway. Kasper is a safe pair of hands. I know he’s only a young laddie but Josh Clarke is a very talented keeper who I’d have as number 2, learn from Kasper for 2/3 years and ready to step up as number one when 21/22. Why not? We need to develop our own talent and give them the opportunity
A concern with Forrest (and so right wingers) is the club trying to shoehorn him into several appearances during the season he could finally become the most decorated Celt outright. That’s always hanging over him. And the club gets so much purchase out of it. Additionally, Rodgers is on record saying he gives players 2nd seasons to prove themselves. Signing no right wingers this summer feels all too plausible. With another emergency one in the winter if we struggle up until January.
The guy is a brilliant keeper. If he helps Celtic win the league everyone will be happy. He may be free but he's on 40 or 50 thousand a week... He will command the back 4...
I would say Schmeichel is probably better than Hart at this moment in time. But he isn't a commanding keeper coming for crosses which was a big moan about Hart
I see it as a good signing, experience is key. If he can have a good season with us , it will prove to be a great piece of business. High time the striker situation sorted. If Norwich won't play ball, identify someone else and move on.
Would be great if he was 3 years younger. Great leadership qualities he’s still the Danes no1 and a good sign is anderlecht wanted to resign him . I agree there’s minimum risk here. We are almost guaranteed a good keeper next year . We could have spent 6 or 7 mil and find the guy wasn’t a big enough character to cut it with us .l
What do we think of for Clarke or Oluwayemi as a back up? I'd like a new goalie on top of Kasper but we need quality at CB, ST, LB and a winger...if O'Riley goes, he needs replaced too. Already shipped out Oh n Haksabanovic for a decent wee bit of change HH
The evidence is overwhelming that the club lacks any real ambition. KS might be a good short term signing. However.... Brendan should not be empowered to manage signings overall, in the way he clearly is. Unfortunately, statistics suggest that Brendan (like any other manager) will move on after another year or 2. KS is clearly a Brendan signing, and offers nothing in the long term. Brendan has zero incentive to recruit for the long term, as (1) he has to win the title, and (2) he won't be here long term. We must be the biggest club in Europe BY A MILE who have the manager in sole charge of recruitment. We qualified for the Champions League last year, yet did not sign 1 CL-quality player to reinforce the squad. This year, we have again qualified, and look like taking the same approach. We are effectively throwing in the towel in Europe before we even start.
From reports I've read, he's wasn't the top target. That being the case, it's a brilliant stop gap. Now for a CH and LB, both of which must be walking in that first 11. Throw in idah and Bernado and I'll take that for this window.
Kenney is spot on with his assessment of this bit of business. We need the big game experience at the back. And Kasper ticks all the boxes we need. Always a professional job from use Bhoys @celtic fans TV. Looking forward to this season Hail Hail 🍀🍀🍀
People go on about his age,but look at buffon in italy ,gks can play into their 40s scheimeichel will be as good as joe hart lets get idah and miovski and have a decent crack at the champions league
You mentioned signing in a younger GK underneath Schmeichel....is there NOTHING in our academy? Who’s the best you GK in our academy? Can’t they be number 2?
Schmeichel is a proven keeper without doubt. It says something though about the challenge that we face in attracting quality players at their peak to the SPL and the club. At the end of the day he`s a guy running down his career. Underwhelming. Let`s hope we can do better with outfield recruitment before the window closes.
We might have got another barkas if we signed someone else..Schmeichel will be an influence to the team..also I will be sorry to see OH leave..think he could come good eventually..hail hail ktf 🇮🇪
Another short term solution for the Scottish champions ..now look at the champions search the lower leagues of England for their run in the champions league
Hart announces in January he's retiring, you cannot tell me Kasper has been the first choice preffered candidate. It has been a cheap option and it's a short term option. He's better than Bain but not anyone's choice if we're being honest. A season or two and it's back to the same situation again.
Kasper is a belter of a signing. Sometimes you don't need to spend £10m to tick every box and Schmeichal ticks every box outwith sell on value - but we have lots and lots of developing talent and what those players need is experience and professionalism around training and on the park. Great business. The age issue? Top sports players play much longer nowadays - Pepe is 42, Ronaldo 39, in Basketball the likes of Lebron James is 40... I don't know why all of a sudden sports stars can lost longer but one look at Schmeichal tells you whatever they lads are doing he is doing too, he is as sharp as a tack.
I fear that he could hav a bit of a negative impact in the dressing room. Was he not apparently instrumental in Ranieri getting sacked, the season after winning Leicester the league... and why did Nice tear up his contract just recently?! 🤔
Celtic will be looking to bank another massive profit in this transfer window. That is their primary aim in every window. The team is a distant secondary consideration.
Id be happy with stand alone keeper signings ..by that i mean id be happy signing an experienced keeper every time ....has to be top class international though.. i dont think we need to go down the buy to sell route with keepers
I think Kasper schmeichel is a good/bad signing. He brings great experience and personality.Celtic are too big a club to have to go out and buy a first team player at 38.I personally think dean Henderson would have been a good signing.
This is a good signing? Are u having a laugh? What it is & everyone knows this is it's the CHEAP OPTION & the charlatans who run our club will ALWAYS pick the cheap option. I'm just shocked that some folk are surprised at this
I’m with you in regards to this board & the transfer windows since Rodgers came in have been abysmal. We got away with it last season thanks mainly to a poor Rangers outfit & I really believed we’d kick on-by spending serious money on quality players. It may still happen but it’s highly unlikely at this stage. It just seems like the board are out of touch with the supporters. I was initially frustrated with the Schmeicel news but now think he’ll actually be a good signing for a year or so. He’s still Denmark’s number one so is obviously in good shape..🍀
Think this is a clever bit of business with Schmeichel on a free as it doesn't effect finances with regards outfield players coming in and I'll take this all day long.
HH BHOYS FOR ME LACK OF MOVING FORWARD KASPER A U ALL TALKING ABOUT IS FROM HIS PAST THOUGHT WE SUPPOSE 2 BE GOING FORWARD THEIRS IS A HELL OF A LOT OF GOALIES OUT THEIR JUST HAVE 2 WAIT & SEE WAS U SAID PAUL REST MY CASE HH KTF
Rated schmeichel for years and he’s a good GK no doubt! Massive presence and experience, but my issue is the severe lack of any structure or direction with this football club! Joe hart gives us notice 6 months notice and we bring a guy who’s older than him and likely to give us only a year or 2 max! See if I hear one more Celtic fan mention Barkas in relation to bringing a keeper in I think I’ll lose the plot! So we don’t invest in a good age of keeper who may give 3/4 good years because Barkas was shite? The laziest and frankly idiotic theory I think I’ve heard, and music to this boards ears! That’s our last 2 signings been from Rodgers book of favours, and that is a shambolic way to run a football club!
Big money is a no goer in Scottish football. The board are no daft, they know European success is not going to happen,if celtic win the league, the board are happy and line their pockets some more.
I wonder how far down Rodgers list Kasper Schmeichel was?Board rubbing their hands again 😔 Wouldn't blame BR if he walked out board are good at selling players but recruitment stinks
another bid for idah rejected, getting a 37 keeper on a free and making a fuss over wages with bernardo, honestly i’m beginning to think we don’t actually have the money they’re saying we have
