Great review! I’ve had my Katabatic Bivy for several years and enjoy the simplicity of it. The zipper goes about midway down one side, making is easy to get in and out. I throw a small brown tarp over mine if there’s even a hint of rain or frost. The bivy’s color scheme makes it very stealthy - no hi-viz sticking out like a sore thumb.
great review. I am compiling my "to purchase" list in conjunction with the methodology I wish to employ. Long term hiker but never had good camping gear. At 54 the truly GOOD and LITE stuff didn't exist in my prime. Now sporting some challenging physical issues I NEED to get the weight down, and mentally I have in contrast to me "take it because I might need it approach", need to get the number of items down. You and literally thousands of others out there offer literally a world of experience. Having this knowledge at my fingertips is invaluable. So yep, I will go with this Bivy and see no reason not to role it all up in one easy bundle. I am still tossing up between several under 400g shelter options to pare with the Bivy.
These are the only types of bivvies worth buying. Everything waterproof is just a condensation trap. Water resistant and breathable is much better. Just use a tarp or small pyramid shelter. Can you tell me which size you opted for?
