"The Great Cold Distance" was a step beyond the metal stage. such a softness entwined with the aggressiveness of sadness is unbearable, yet comforting. Katatonia is a beautiful creation.
One of my favorite bands of all time . and I didn't find out about them till I was 55. have seen them live 3 times. awelcome awesome band. I get so sick and tired when I hear people my age age say there isn't any good music. love insomnium, opeth wolves at the door and a ton more .
@@aprild9577 same here, been into metal since I was 8 when cousin gave me all his records (yes, I said records) I am 53 now. Never stopped seeking new metal bands. YT helped tremendously with this. There's been great metal bands every year since I was 8 in 75. Too many too list
This song perfectly captures the feeling of sleepless, sweltering, sweaty, heartache-ridden summer nights. Nights where you walk up the walls and stew in your own juices and your memories haunt you. Anger, regret, sadness. Manic depression. Timeless. The band's masterpiece. I'm already looking forward to next July, hahaha...
You come clean Waves collide now Defenseless numb arms And no voice of reason So how come you invited me too? You knew I wanted you You glide above So this night belongs to you I know this isn't through Are you dead to love? I see the bright lights It's the month of July It's violent here Why have you left me? If only you could stay And keep me in It's violent here Why did you run from me? So how come you invited me too? You knew I wanted you You glide above So this night belongs to you I know this isn't through Are you dead to love? Heat Night devour me Heat Night devour me Repeat, repetition I see the bright lights It's the month of July It's violent here Why have you left me? If only you could stay and keep me in It's violent here Why did you run from me?
it is a big mistake to compare this to their older work. this is the most progressive and most technical album of them.. and this song is one of album's best.. they keep changing their music as the albums pass but never lose their dark atmosphere. One of the most consistent and yet suprising groups ever.
I love the band and all the changes they have made from album to album. It keeps their music fresh. Their newest album that just came out is amazing. Even the acoustic albums are amazing.
I bought this album when it came out in 2006. I was in high school. RU-vid was super new back then. It is one of the best metal albums ever, and katatonia's best. Every single song in this album is killer. Back then, I gave the album to my friends. They never stopped listening to them since. One of them still has it lying around after 16 years. I know people love the vocalist. But man .. the guitarist is PHENOMENAL. One of metal's best in my opinion. Also, the bass lines are monumental. They don't make music like this anymore.

The power and artistry of this band cannot be expressed, matched or compared. Every year I find more meaning and depth in Katatonia's music. It is quite incredible that such refined music is written and composed in our base epoch. Renkse and Nystrom are two poetic visionaries who gave us some of the most beautiful and sad songs ever written. A case in point: the paradoxical warmth of this chilling, heart-breaking master piece. "I see the bright lights, it's the month of July." Ohhhhh...
Right? The Great Cold Distance is their best album by far. I've lost a bit of interest in them since Night is the new Day, even tho they are still a great band.
You can't force these things sadly. It's about how they were feeling in that moment of time, that has to progress or stagnate and Katatonia have at least continued to not sell out and make great interesting albums.
Haven't listened to Katatonia in a long time, and this was a nice piece to my morning :D I love the contrast between the bass/guitars and keys. Classic doom elements
A lil hurt just reminded me of this song after all these years passing me by without a single trace of mercy. I still enjoy it while all those great lyrics are bleeding through my veins tho I'm aware of the fact that it ain't summer in my soul anymore and every single beginning of fall makes me wanna fall 🖤🤘🏻
July Katatonia Lyrics You come clean Waves collide now Defenseless numb arms And no voice of reason So how come you invited me too You knew I wanted you You glide above So this night belongs to you I know this isn't through Are you dead to love I see the bright lights It's the month of July It's violent here Why have you left me If only you could stay And keep me in It's violent here Why did you run from me Heat Night devour me Repeat Repetition ... . . . . ... Just a friendly reminder that if you find yourself replaying this more then a few times in one sitting you probably should just buy it :)
I've seen Katatonia live in SLC and they were so amazing LIVE!! Jonas voice is both powerful and calming at the same time!! The Old Hearts Fail Tour was nothing short of CONCERT PERFECTION!!!
Opeth and Katatonia have some similar sounds because Akerfeldt and Renkse have been best friends for many, many years. They have similar influences, and they have worked together on various projects. Instead of comparing the two, simply recognize them both as fantastic bands.
He conocido hace poco a Katatonia y me parecen espectaculares, la estructuración de sus temas, el desarrollo de éstos , la complejidad , sus paradas y sus colores , espectaculares.
