After hearing an interview with the cast of the 2013 remake I was inspired to view this. What MONSTROUS talent playing the key roles in this version. Kate Ceberano was and still is absolutely stunning and an incredible talent. Jon Stevens was and still has a voice that defies all attempts to categorise it into a specific genre of music. And John Farnham is simply a musical TITAN, and in my view a wonderful talent, one of the best that Australia has ever produced.
Hi everyone. I am so pleased this has been posted. I was on stage as a cast member, the chorus master and , later, the Conductor of the theatre version. It was, and remains, the most incredible theatrical experience of my 40+ year career. I remember this appearance like it was yesterday.
Thank you for being there :) My parents took me to see it when I was 5yo, and the music from this has been my absolute favourite for most of my life. The only thing wrong was that my parents didn't tell me that they weren't actually crucifying John, and it terrified me as a kid, lol. But even now, I still have this entire album on usb in my car and love cranking it on long drives.
Fabulous! Hehe, I was 13 & snuck out of high school with a friend and travelled to one of the Brisbane performances in October 1992. Best night ever- good times! First musical I ever saw!
Me so sad these days, we had the best of everything music clean water great unadulterated food and sunshine and minimal drugs and just plain fun. Less violence and more love for each other.
@maidaursuladawn44glasgow3 YEAH-I'M GLAD I GOT TO ENJOY THESE YEARS.THINGS STARTED GOING BAD BEFORE COVID CAME NOW WE ARE STUCK WITH IT THERE'S NO RETURN TO THE GOOD DAYS OF FREEDOM.. SAD.
can't help but applaud you for saying so much in such a concise, elegant, perceptive and delightful way. you have a real gift . that's the type of mind that creates slick ,efficient, not clunky software
I saw the concert performance. I never forgot Farnham’s vocal tail off lick at the end his verse in this song.It was magical live. To discover this performance and hear that again after all these years put a smile on my face. Good onya Aussies
That moment you described was definitely magical. The timing was seamless between when John finished and Kate started. I felt some spontaneous tears well up at the beauty of that moment.
@@Ripeka11 for sure. New Zealand punches above its weight when it comes to producing gr8 artists especially when u consider its relatively small population.
I absolutely adored this musical! It was the first time I'd been to see anything live. I was 10 at the time and we bought the CD and I learnt the words to the entire thing from start to finish... lol. It was just incredible. Jon Stevens was my first ever crush... :)
I looked for this because I love Kate and needed to hear her voice but wow, Jon Stevens! I had totally forgotten the amazing power of his performance. Woah...
@Jon Stevens What do you stand to gain from pretending to be Jon Stevens? There are several huge clues in your message that you are a scammer. If the real Jon Stevens has something to say, I would be happy to respond.
I didn't see any of the early versions. Lucky you! I did get to see it in Sydney in 2013 with Tim Minchin as Judas, Ben Forster as Jesus, Mel C as Mary M, & even Jon Stevens as Pilate. Was an amazing show but I would have loved to have seen this one.
This is a brilliant cast….. best ever……. such awesome voices singing it out loud….. This was a great night's viewing, the family loved it….. a huge cast of Australian talent right there……. thanks for this one……. way to go
Little factoid- the original 'Linda' from "Round the Twist" is in the chorus- Tamsin West (she's sitting in the back in blue, leaning on the guy)! I also saw this when I was about 13 in Brisbane when they did this at the Entertainment Centre in the round- it was AMAZING!
I seen them in Brisbane too!!! I was only 16 at the time. I was obsessed with the soundtrack and the musical and thought Aussie did the best rendition!
I remember watching this on Hey Hey back in the nineties and it’s the best version I have ever heard of that song the whole show would of been amazing to see I wish I had of gone to see it live.John, Kate and Jon Steven’s back then were at their peak looking so handsome and delicious and the costumes were beautiful as well such great voices and above all their voices together were magic! ❤️
John F is the G.O.A.T. Jon Stevens is a powerhouse and Kate absolutely gorgeous. This was the best cast performance of JCS. Amazing Grace is great too ❤
Kate, in this video clip you are the most beautiful woman ever seen on Australian television. I wish your mum had introduced me to you back in 1981//82. The whole performance is sublime.
I had never heard the version done by Evonne Elliman and the 2 guys who sing it with her . The first time I heard Kate , John Stevens and Farnham . I went straight & bought the single . With out knocking Evonne this version is by far superior . 3 Australian super stars 🤩❤️❤️ Sydney Australia 🦘🦘 🦘 14/12/2023!

Some American dude tryed telling me the Evonne Elliman version with 2 dudes I've never heard of is better than this . How amusing . Where are they now ? Amazing performance . From 3 great artists . Sydney Australia 🦘🦘🦘 15/1/2024😊😊😊
It was and still remains the best JC Superstar production ever! I saw it in Brisbane and loved every minute of it!! I refuse to see any other production...have seen the best..forget the rest!
Great show, fantastic performers - what more could you ask for. Pity Hey Hey's not on TV any more. Bring this stage show back to Qld with the same musicians & I'll be there in a shot!!
I can’t think of a performance I’ve loved more than the one from these amazing Australian stars. Thank you Kate, Jon, John, we saw you in the round 30 years ago in Jesus Christ Super Star, it is something we treasure to this day ❤❤
Jon Stevens is an excellent vocalist, and yet, he had to give it everything to make that high B. He was struggling to hold that note that long. And Farnham just effortlessly hits that note, holds it, then has so much more in the tank that he can extemporize a little into Kate's lines... wow...
for amakdissi79 - i think it is pretty much Mary Magdeline wanting Jesus to relax, be happy, sleep and worry about nothing, she will sooth him etc. Judas then comes in and goes off saying pretty much that she has to think of others besides herself. Then Jesus comes in to defend her and says Judas pretty much better appreciate him because one day he will be gone. That's my interpretation anyway of a brilliant song!!
LOVE the voices and the vocal talent - simply love it! My one small gripe is Farnham singing exactly on the beat. He'd sound more relaxed, more authentic, more *cantabile* if he sang behind the beat...
I've seen the official video of this song performed. This version gave me chills, it had more feeling to it. @ boogie he wasnt being mean he was saying that there would always be poor. Unfortunately the early priesthood decided who would be poor. Take the rest of history of the church from this
