This is the look I did on Kate for the recent world premiere of Titanic 3D in London. We decided to do a modern version of classic hollywood glamour with a red lip. I felt this make up went well with the beautiful Jenny Packham (jennypackham.com) dress she was wearing. Hairstylist Nicola Clarke (bit.ly/IdVnfY) did and amazing job with Kate's hair and I agree with what Joan Rivers said on Fashion Police, her overall look was "perfection"!

It's not really elitist if it could possibly effect the legitimacy work of other makeup artists. For example, I watch some 'gurus' who never claim to be artists, like emilynoel83, and she is fine in my book. She doesn't claim to be able to copy a look, she simply talks about products, and looks she does for her news reports, and how she does it for camera lighting (if you ever did reporting, there is a lot that goes into the makeup). There are other "artists" who straight up take this look...this one right here, that Lisa did, and copy it by simply slapping on products that can mock the look, but not get it. That's why she spends a lot of time explaining why she used the products she used. The reason I say this could effect other artists, is because if these gurus are getting work they are not trained for, or knowledgeable enough for, when there are artists out there who are, that's not right. I can get how this would seem petty, but as someone who does makeup artistry for stage, I get how seeing someone try to do your job, and not really get it, would be irritating.

i appreciate your well thought out and civilized response. i guess i can definitely see your point but to be honest makeup and the jobs related to it aren't that serious and important to be talking so arrogantly about (i am referring to Lisa's little speech in the beginning of the vid).

altertheskyy1 Well, they wouldn't seem important...and in an ideal world, where we didn't judge by appearances, they wouldn't be, but because people judge so much, makeup artists, to a point, have important jobs. It's not a good thing that they are important for THAT reason, but it's reality. Now, let me clarify: Makeup doesn't have to be about making yourself look better. I feel people like Lisa are also artists, if you have seen her editorial work, and use humans as canvases. It can be an expression of art, so I don't want to give the impression I think makeup is there entirely to cover imperfections. but when it comes to certain aspects of makeup artistry, such as red carpets, because of the judgmental world we live in, makeup artists who do know what it takes to make someone look flattering in all lights, are important, to reduce the amount of insults a person receives. Like, you can probably easily research bad red carpet makeup, and see the awful things people write about the person, not considering their feelings. So, in that aspect, Lisa's job, and her stressing on how knowing HOW to do the job, is important.

+altertheskyy1 Lisa basically pointed out that there's a lot more than meets the eye about red carpet makeup and that a lot of tutorials don't capture that. She has the experience to say so and there was really no nicer way to point it out. No elitism here. Just skill.

Well honey, not every makeup artist is blessed with opportunity to do red carpet makeup, let alone work with world-renowned celebrities. I do admire Lisa's work. She truly is a master at her craft. She, I believe is one of the few youtubers who really deserve to be called a "guru" because of her vast experience in the industry and knowledge in the craft. There are so many who aren't on that level yet but call themselves beauty gurus just because they post makeup tutorials. However, I also think that was a very cocky statement coming from her. I'd expect a MUA of her level and experience to be more tactful instead of taking petty stabs at other youtubers. I know she was referring to the Pixiwoo sisters, which I think is unfair and cruel because they are also amazing and deserve more credit than Lisa will give them. Perhaps not as good as Lisa herself, but still much better than so many others who attempt to do makeup tutorials and call themselves beauty gurus but are only amateurs at best.

The Vita Lumiere and Perfection Lumiere foundations now come in shades suitable for red undertones. In VLA the shades have the letter R after the number and n in PL they end in a 2. Best to visit a counter and have them take you through all the new shades and try them on (check in daylight) X

Hey lisa, fabulous makeup as always. Can I request a tutorial? I have eyes that have a small amount of lid space between lashes to socket, but a lot of space between socket to eyebrow. Not hooded but just not much on show. Also my crease extends below the outside corner of my eyes so flicked eyeliner is impossible. Any ideas on what style of eyemakeup would look best as im losing the love of makeup as I cant find a way to apply it and it look good. Thanks in advance x.

Hi, Lisa! I'd like to ask you about foundations with FPS. I've been told that is not likely to use them for parties os any other event where you can be photografed on artificial light (because of flashes). You used on Jessie a foundation with FPS 15 and it's a red carpet look (the most photografed kind of look ever!). So, there are some brands with more reflective FPS than others? Is it a myth that you can't use products with FPS for "photografable events"? Thank you!! From a Brazilian huge fan!

I took advantage of a 40% discount at my local Sephora and I finally, finally bought the Prelude palette. I then went ahead and bought the gel liner in Espresso too. I had been meaning to do this ever since I watched this, and today that I tried out the look, I was so happy! I didn't pair it with the red lip though, because I only went to work. :D Thank you so much for this incredibly inspirational video. If it wasn't mostly about marketing, price, name, pretty bottles and other containers, etc., but instead almost all about quality, it would be verrrrry silly and verrrrry foolish for companies to spend all of that money on all that marketing and the rest. But the companies pay for all of that because it DOES matter, A LOT. There is a lot of research that proves it. Marketing is mostly about manipulation, and people fall for it all the time.

Thank you for the information. In no way am I declaring that you are wrong about high end make up being far superior, but at the same time I must say that I have my doubts. Having majored in psychology, with a strong interest in the subject to boot, I am all too aware of the human mind's ability to essentially fool itself. Do you & your friends like wine? I suspect so. Just as a fun little experiment, collect a few bottles of very expensive wines, and right before having a few good friends

over for a little wine imbibing, fill the bottles w/ cheap (say, no more than $20 a bottle), but not horribly rated wines. See what your friends have to say about these supposedly very expensive wines. I am guessing they will give glowing reviews. I know someone who does the same sort of thing on New Years Eve with some Cristal bottles, and everyone raves at how great it tastes. Little do they know the bottles are filled with some cheap $12 Champagne. And trust me, they wouldn't be reacting in

like swill, or that it is "alright." In the end, it is mostly about price, marketing, the pretty bottle and it's label, etc., and the same goes for make up, & many other products. I once read about a man who owned a Chinese restaurant. On his menu was some crab rangoon that he sold for a quarter a piece. He couldn't even give the stuff away. He later decided to up the price to $1.75 a piece. He then could hardly keep it in "stock." Same crab rangoon, different price and much different reaction.

If you view all her videos, you'll find that she does use drugstore brands. She's mentioned that she receives loads of makeup from all brands, but only mentions and uses in her videos the ones she likes. She receives no monetary compensation. I use mostly high end, but because of Lisa I have tried drugstore makeup. The truth is that I find the high end makeup far superior in quality and durability, the only exception being mascara. I like Maybelline mascaras more than most high end ones.

The expensive makeup IS better than the cheaper, sorry to say. It just has better pigmentation, which makes the colors brighter - and then you don't use so much every time. It sure is a lot to spend at one time - but it's worth it. I use both expensive and drugstore, and I can easily see and feel the difference. And I'm sure that Lisa uses the expensive products, because she believes they are better.

Interesting that all of the makeup used is of the expensive variety, even though The Truth is that much of the difference in price between the majority of makeup is the marketing. The same could have been done with much less expensive makeup & no one would b able to tell the difference. So I suppose we can deduce that Ms. Eldridge is getting some "scratch" from the makeup companies that r mentioned in the video. Otherwise, why "push" the expensive stuff that only some people can truly afford???

since I've recently started to do makeup on clients, your videos mean world to me. I'm self thought so no one ever showed me how to do makeup on other people, which you do in your videos. It helped me a lot to see how you put on mascara, eyeliner (at the beginning, I didn't lift eyelids and it was hell for me to do it), how many brushes you use, whether you sit in front of them or do it standing,...

I know the question you had was directed at Lisa but if you don't mind i will put in my 2 cents. I'd line my lip with a red lip liner then fill it in with the same liner. I like to rub it in with my finger then apply the lipstick over, blot again then a last application of lipstick. For me this works great. If your very concerned about the lipstick moving you can also use a red eye shadow over top (very sparingly) and a lil gloss so its not so matte.

i'm new to your channel and very gratefull for it, i've been loving your videos! i don't know if you could answer me but since i have this issue myself, i always think about it when i see celebrities on events. This is not a private question about Kate, but more about the fact that she was done by you- a MUA. So, what happens if the make up starts to fade away, specially lipstick and shine control? do celebrities carry products themselves to touch up? tnx in advance and Jesse is a lovely model!

Jesse does resemble Uma Thurman. Yet u managed to create a Kate Winslet look on her. Amazing! I hv d Prelude palette but my eyes never turned out like tat! If I used 2 or more shades, my eyes jus looked messy n dirty. So now I jus blend a light shade all over my lid up to d crease :( I really hope 1 day u will do a makeup look wif Chanel Vanites, a, purplish palette I hv. Really like to learn how u will use these colors.

Dear Lisa, what blush are you wearing in this video please? If you don't mind, I must admit you have soooo much passion in you whenever you do a video. Seems like it's not just a job that you do, but a job with a hell lot of passion included. This is the first time I've noticed passion in a make up video and you just ooooze it! I normally buy number 6 in Laura Mercier secret camouflage, what would you suggest in Keromask?......i have to purchase it from a website so I'm going by their swatches, I'm going to purchase a few testers anyway, but I could use a guide as I assume you have all the shades. It seems, from the website, that I'd suit the darker mediums best, anywhere from medium 5-9, I think. Thank you in advance.

Pixiwoo and yourself are the only three people on RU-vid (that i've come across thus far atleast) that can truly call yourselves Gurus. You aren't just sitting in your room playing with makeup pretending to be a pro. You are a true professional, at the top of your game and it shows with every stellar video to put out. Your passion for this industry pours through your veins and i hope to one day attain the level of talent you three women possess!

Lisa, you are the real deal. There are gurus on youtube who claim to be "celebrity makeup artists" and just watching their videos, you can tell they googled what to do and it's just sloppy and has none of the knowledge this video does (not to mention you show your work- there's one on youtube who claims to have worked in Hollywood for years but has no portfolio to show- obvious liar). You are LIGHT YEARS away from those wannabes and I'm grateful for your videos!! Thanks so much! xoxo
