I love how Katelyn keeps looking around for Kelsey at the beginning of the race, but as soon as she catches up Katelyn relaxes and runs her race. They are such a great team!
Katelyn far more muscular than the other runners.. that really helps her on the hills. I still get the feeling she's only using about 85-90% of her energy at this point. She barely looks tired. Scary to think how much she can still improve.
4:53 - look at that steep slope and big hill, they ran that whole thing twice!!! plus theres so many smaller hills and slopes and then there's another big hill at the finish line! this course is CRAZY!
Geez. Powering up the last incline. Blowing doors. NCS is lucky as heck to have their runners. Super well done, congrats to The 'Pack, i enjoyed this video immensely.
The Tuohy machine just keeps going up or downhill.!😘 The aim must be under 19 min next time.! Brings joy the heart to see her just pulling ahead when the lactic acid starts slowing the opposition down.! This is a good day.!
It’s very interesting to watch Katelyn’s stride it’s straight back, her center of gravity is excellent, the drive is outstanding. If you watch the other women you see the heels go out away from their center so it looks like they are fighting to keep the center solid. Katelyn center is solid and straight you don’t see her heels go away from that center.
@@jmysterio100 🎃 ... lol On the coaching side, it's a matter of efficiency, she was running beside her teammate near the end who foot plants were less restrained, the foot splaying to the outside, it was really obvious a difference that must have training behind it why it caught attention. Other runners may benefit. Cheers 🎃
This course is the center of everything in the Charlottesville cross country scene. Great place, great owners (its a private home). Lots of great volunteers. I love Katelyn, but I love UVA!
@@jmysterio100 What? Charlottesville is not where the plantations were in Virginia. Southeastern Virginia had the plantations, but I am not sure it matters what was done on the land 160 years ago when we're talking about cross country. Today it mainly grows hay and hosts cross country races.
@@jmysterio100 Yes, Virginia was a slave state in 1862. Good for you for knowing that obscure fact (Richmond, which is a city in Virginia, was actually the capital of the Confederacy and probably 60% of the Civil War was fought in the Commonwealth of Virginia). Virginia voted against Trump twice, however. Would you like to come out and say what it is I seem to be incapable of inferring from your off topic comments?
Brooke finished 124th at Nuttycombe in 21.02 (PR). She finished 10th in under 20 minutes in this ACC Championships! None of the NC State 4-5-6 runners from Nuttycombe scored in ACC's. Gionna ran a big PR in ACC race too. Coach is going to have a very tough time picking 7 for the National Champs, particularly if Marlee runs. Hard to leave out Brooke, Gionna, Sydney, Nevada, or Mariah.
And they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint, I was cheering from start to finish; what beautiful way to start my Sunday morning. I will be giving thanks for the joy you add to my life.
Watching her power through the 6K is a privilege. It also reminds me of the old XC course at Van Cortland Park in NYC. I expect that she would make a fine show there.
I have been a runner and after that a coach and she showed the real talent by the way she is running and she make exactly the same as Jakob Ingebrigtsen when she put more speed, all looks the same but she still move clearly away from the other runners......she clearly stood out from all the rest of the runners.
Interesting to watch Katelyn and the ND runner side by side. K has an ever so slightly longer stride and would be putting out just that slightly less amount of energy for the same speed I guess.
I never ran CC but every time I watch one of these races, as I get older, I just think about how I'm positive I would horribly hurt my ankle if I ran these courses lol
Seeing some of these young women collapse at the finish line makes me proud, really putting it all out there on the track for their team. excellent work
Cross country is so underrated versus football. These are individual athletes not relying on a team to claim victory. After running cross country and track for 7 years, I can tell you, these ladies are incredible!!!!
@@johnspring9428 just wanted to come back here and let you know the women's wolfpack just blasted someone on twitter for saying XC is NOT a team sport. So much for me being ignorant.
To all those who have commented about the cart that is following the runners. It is not gasoline powered it is propane powered. a lot of your forklifts used in warehouses are powered by the same type of engines because they emit very little CO2. When operating outside there is no danger. People also use propane for there stoves inside. Finally electric carts are a great idea but they are terrible on steep incline especially if wet or muddy.
You can't even trust the announcers. They say Bush crosses in 5th & then later say 8th. But, Touhy 1st, Chmiel 2nd, Bush 5th then what they say might be 14th & 15th adds up to 37. ND 3,6,7,8 & ?. So, 13th or worse for ND's 5th runner would tie at 37 or come in 2nd if later than that.
Question: Was Katelyn Tuohy named after Catelyn Tully (Catelyn Stark) from the George R. R. Martin "A Song of Ice and Fire" books? I just noticed the name resemblance, and she's running with the Wolfpack now. Weird coincidence if not.
Just curious... are the vehicles moving ahead of the runners to film them electric? I know for years they were gas-powered and wondered what effect the exhaust would have on runners.
I was thinking the same. would be insanely stupid to have a gas powered vehicle that close to the front runners. I would be pissed if that was the case and I had to run behind them.
And some courses around the country are pretty much nothing but dry dirt. The vehicles in front of the leader(s) are spitting up dust right in front of the runners! Time to make a serious change. Start using drones, PLEASE.
Great run, congratulations to all, Cross country is in my opinion, is where it’s at, much more enjoyable, and no one should ever, unless absolutely necessary, run themselves into complete exhaustion, not good, even dangerous, beside, running on uneven natural surfaces is easier on the joints etc…
I went to the NC State web page for the Championship information…congrats on the personal win, course record, and the team win!!! However, why wasn’t Katelyn wearing the championship t-shirt like everyone else on the team? What’s with that?
Probably like in Hockey, skate up to the divisional trophy, but do not touch it, just get a picture with it as required. Because in the larger picture the main goal has not been reached, the NCAA championship (Stanley Cup in Hockey). Go STATE!!!!
the race didnt go as they planned, the 2 notre dame runners blasted the first 2.5k, it was so fast, only katelyn went with them and kelsey caught up eventually, the notre dame runners faded in the last 1.5 kilometer, the wolfpack moved up in the last kilometer which is how they won the team race
@@katelyntuohyfans thanks for the reply! So would it make more sense for the teammate to run side by side like she did or would drafting be better? Also, this was an amazing race. Katelyn is an awesome runner!
@@matthewforster2661 I think the psychological effects are much more significant here than drafting. In marathon record sets though, drafting definitely plays a big part
I have been a runner for al most 60 years. My siblings and kids were runners and some still are. It saddens me greatly - and gets me angry - to see these XC races where GAS_POWERED carts are right in front of these women. So they are constantly running in to the exhaust cloud. What a horrible irony that this is done - as these women train so well and take such good care of their bodies for running and then the idiots in charge of these races puts gas fumes right in their faces. Yet we live in a world where Tesla is a well known name. And golf carts of all types abound. This is a crime against humanity and it must stop. If I were ever to run in a XC or road race and found myself with gas-power vehicles in front, I would either quit or temporarily stop to get away. My health - my damn lungs are more important than the "need" for front-runner video. This is the epitome of irony that we have usually overweight or at least out-of-shape people riding in gas-powered vehicles video-taping outstanding athletes - and pushing fumes into their lungs as though it is "just a cost of doing business."
The circus animal has one-hell of a "kick" at the end of every race that is almost unbelievable. I 'll bet her body type and diet have a lot to do with it. I have run cross country myself, years ago, and the end "kick" at the end of the race worked for me every time. Her O2 debt and use of ATP is very efficient. There may be carb loading as well.
