I am so blessed to know Kathy Sledge and the Sister Sledge. I first met them in 1975 during their Circle of love your. I also had the pleasure of knowing their late mom ( Florence ). They are the sweetest people. Kathy is still the same wonderful person today that I knew then. That beautiful person you see on the screen is who she is. She is a true icon who has only gotten better with time. ❤️U Kat, still you # 1 fan.🎼
I am so happy Kathy mentioned Whitney her voice was magical, amazing what she could do with it.❤️ Sister Sledge is so phenomenal, Iam sooo happy their getting their due.❤️
There's only one sister left from the original four Pointer Sisters group. Three have passed away, sadly! Currently the oldest sister, her daughter and a grand daughter perform as the Pointer Sisters.
I think that they were all talented and producers make the decision to pick the lead on a particular song. The record company want to make money and they go with who sales the most singles! It was Kathy, then later in their career record companies were only offering Kathy a solo deal not the group. Her sisters told if she takes the solo deal, don't come back. That's that, record companies have a history of breaking up groups.
All accurate statements, I believe. Kathy has said elsewhere that eventually her sisters would vote against using Kathy's songs on Sister Sledge albums. If that is true, it is unsurprising that she would want the opportunity to record them as a solo artist.
I am really unhappy that Kathy fell out with her sisters. We all know she was the lead singer but Kathy would be nothing without the other three sisters. The other sisters were gorgeous especially Joni (RIP) and Kim. I never viewed Kathy as the Michael Jackson of the group! (the camera may have been on Kathy but she wasn’t identifiable as a superstar like MJ). For money, Kathy broke away from her blood sisters and formed a rubbish group with unknown new singers. How greed can split siblings up. I am for the the other two sisters, Debbie and Kim - both are lovely and so god fearing. Money and fame make people greedy. This is what has happened with Kim, who has put both those attributes over her two surviving sisters - as I understand it. I loved the group Sister Sledge but never thought the sisters would be like this, especially after the death of the lovely Joni.
I agree with you 100 percent. There should have been more about her sisters on this interview. So sad. I love Kathy Sledge . There was not even a mention of Joni Sledge who passed away . Unlike the Jacksons. Lead vocals were split among the sisters on there albums. With Kathy singing lead vocals on the singles.
@@5star64 yes, so sad. When a sister dies so tragically and suddenly and they don’t even get one mention. Sister Sledge was a family group (as their famous song suggests) and it is unfathomable that Kathy could break away like this and talk as if she was some kind of superstar and the others weren’t!
I don’t agree I don’t think Sister Sledge were ever as close as people thought I think it was a lot of jealousy among them especially toward Kathy she was the lead singer of the group I know she got the most attention and the other sisters couldn’t stand it and I know it went on for years Until she couldn’t take it anymore and decided to leave I know her solo career didn’t take off but Sister Sledge was not the same without her they should have forgiven each other reunited and continued to give us good music I hope that one day the surviving sister will reunite and forgive one another before it’s to late.
I definitely believe it’s jealousy among them if it weren’t they wouldn’t be feuding for what over 20 years now I watch a lot of unsung on a lot of these old groups including family groups and I was shocked to see all of the fighting jealousy and money issues that were going on among them that destroyed the group I tell you this music industry is so evil.
That's not true. She was getting offers to do a solo album and kept turning them down. I think I remember her saying that her sisters did not want her to. Even her mother told her that she wouldn't make it without her sisters. Maybe, they felt threatened, being that she was lead singer, that she would leave for good. Many groups go through it and It's unfortunate. Record companies didn't pay much back then, either. Solo albums were extra income.
