My late mother in law, I think, summed up the success of the series perfectly. She was around 70 at the time (long since deceased). She said that Compo, Cleggy and Foggy get up to escapades that we would wish to imitate, IF, WE ONLY HAD THE NERVE!
Well what d'you know. The hottest britcoms were shown on ny pbs one weekend. Needless to say summer wine came out on tol after the voting was done. Says a lot.
