Kavalan Madeira Solist

If I remember correctly from my distillery visit, you’re spot on about Kavalan charring their casks. They definitely do it to the majority and possibly all their casks.

Rob have you tried the Port Cask Kavalan Solist? If so what do you think. I love this one. Best Port Cask matured I have experienced in my journey....cheers!

I basically agree with you. I had a few bottles of this, three actually and for half the price you quote, I picked up at the Yilan distillery in February 2021. It's a really nice color and, as you mention, a different kind of flavor profile from the other Kavalan (sherry) expressions - perhaps handling these casks differently, ie NOT charring AFTER seasoning, would bring out a more dynamic or nuanced expression on the pallet since Madeira is a wine. I noticed something similar with the other ex-wine casks (there were at least two special French wine casks expressions Kavalan released that I felt had some depth but were rather singular in note).

Been drinking the Kavalan Fino as of late, and it's delicious stuff. Gonna need another :)

Yes I feel the same way about Madeira casks, not bad but nothing special. And I got a bottle of Benriach 22 Moscatel long time ago because of your recommendation. It is an awesome bottle and it keeps impressing my friends! Cheers!

The problem of kavalan is that most of their products are single barrel, especially those that won lots of awards. That means that if u get two bottle solist madeira cask, but different barrels. It could taste a lot different.I actually got an amazing Madeira cast bottle few months earlier with full of fresh fruits and a little woods. Personal experience of kavalan product ranking : Port>Madeira >sherry

How does this compare to the solist oloroso Sherry?
