In episode 47 of Whisky in SV, I did a blind tasting of 3 Kavalan Solists: The Pedro Ximenez, the Port, and the Madeira specially selected by the Whisky Sifu. My main goal with this episode was to find out whether the PX could stand up to the other two bottles which cost significantly less. I have to admit that I was disappointed but also relieved in some ways to find out that you don't need to spend the big bucks to get the best experience. While that conclusion is probably true regardless, I will caveat it with the fact that these are all single barrels, so your mileage may vary. Come to think of it, I recently tried a different Solist Port cask at a whisky tasting event and I was not very impressed with it compared to the one I have. Regardless, you cannot go wrong with any of the Solist whiskies, but don't assume that the most expensive ones are necessarily better! #whiskyinsv • #WhiskyInSV 047: Kaval...
