Whisky Review/Tasting: Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique 

Such a knowledgeable, down to earth, and honest person. Mr. Luening, thank you for your videos.

Just tasted the Solist Vinho Barrique yesterday. It's a genuinely rich single malt. One of my top 3 ever tried malts till this date. Genuinely impressed with this expression!

Finally...A review on one of most favourite whiskies,,,about time there Mr Horst.Thanks comrade.

I can't wait to try a Kavalan. The Taiwanese are very particular people. They take what they produce very seriously.

I have come back to this video a few times and it’s always great to see how this whiskey wins over Horst after his initial skepticism. This stuff is great, it was completely sold out the last time I went to Taiwan in 2017. Definitely worth a try if you can find it.

I think you were very surprised by this whisky Horst. In the beginning you were quite doubtful. Not sure whether it was becuase of where it came from or that the description about its origin and established date was amusing. Glad you were surprised!

The scotches were Langs, King Robert, and Bruichladdich X4+3.

That’s very good point. That whisky is very personal thing. Depends on people’s preference. Everyone has different taste & palates. But I’d say the KaVaLan is very worth to try.

Look at forum reviews is one way to find out which are the whisky you can buy but I would like to know what whisky you would recommend to us in the different price range. Thanks for the video! I found your videos very useful source for me to find whisky. Just a note, the price has been marked up considerably if you buy it in USA or Europe. If you ever swing by Taiwan, you can get one for $3000 Taiwan dollar, which is approximately $100 USD instead of $200+ on some websites I saw. Its price of $100 is not cheap but would be a price I willing to pay to get my boyfriend a bottle. Last trip I took to Taiwan, the 700ml bottle was sold out, but I managed to get two 50ml at $8 each for him to test. will see how he likes it!

This sounds really nice, unfortunately. Who knows when/if prices will ever be reasonable.

I'm currently in Taiwan and I have been struggling to find this bottle in retail. Luckily my sister in law knows the owner of a bottle shop who is in the industry, it wasn't as easy to get it.

Hi Horst! First of all I would like to state that I like your Reviews and I have seen a lot. I also agree with you that there is no real way to declare what is the best whisky in the World. It will be the experience of the people testing the whisky at that time. Regarding this whisky you have though mixed the Burn night London times blind testing with the whisky Magazine World Whisky of the year Award. The whisky for the World whisky Award is not conducted in the same manner. It is a panel of blind testing were they look for distinct caracteristics of whisky. Ardbeg Gallileo, Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Talisker 18, Highland Park 21, Yoichi 20YO and Yamazaki 25YO are the previous Winners. You can guess that these brands are competing.

So is your name Luening? Or Horst? I dont understand why you address yourself as "Luening Horst Luening" but the title on the bottom of the screen says just "Horst Luening"

Actually,due to the low latitude and hot weather, the oak impact of a 3 year-old aged Taiwan whisky has the equality of at least 12 year-old Scotch whisky. it may becomes a 'wooden soup' if aged same time as an normal 12 yo Scotch whisky.

Bringing a whisky down whitout tasting it neat ... come on. You are an expert and knows very well that it changes the whisky. For the better or worse, it all depends. Just pouring water in it ... you lost credebility points there. However, it's a fantastic whisky
