I just got the sheepsfoot version of the Makro. Beautiful knife which is very functional and carries extremely well.

I’d like to see an Edge Retention Video really from someone, I saw the Stassa review and he stated that the MKM Heat Treatment on his Makro was terrible and gumming up his Stones. I Love these little Blades and great reviews my Friend

Very cool little EDC fixed Blades, personally I don't mind a small knife but I'd rather sacrifice blade length to get a full grip on the knife. These would be good gripping for utility cuts or pinch grips though. Interesting designs and the handle scales look good as well. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

Very nicely finished as usual for any of the Italian stuff from that region, just one thing that has been a bit of a sticky point for MKM which is a group of them viper, lion steel and one or two there all under the same roof is the m390 has been run a little low on the heat treatment. Although that’s no accident it how they like their m390 . Have a beautiful day J&K stay safe and healthy both😘👍
@tobycoxon8138
@tobycoxon8138 2 года назад
Do you know why they prefer m390 at that treatment? Does it make it tougher as it's less brittle?
@SkunkPunch73
@SkunkPunch73 2 года назад
@@tobycoxon8138 I would be lying if I said that I did for sure but that is the only reason that actually makes sense, they might have done tests and found that at that heat treat it gives you way more resistance to the micro chipping thus they opted for that than the higher heat treatment. Sorry I can’t say 100% for sure @Toby Coxon but it is a logical approach. Have a beautiful day and happy collecting my friend 😘👍🏼
@timwhite5562
@timwhite5562 Год назад
@@tobycoxon8138 as far as I could tell, and I looked pretty thoroughly, this all went back to one person in regards to Lionsteel that he later made a correction. The guy either tested the hardness himself or had it done and originally said it came back as HRC 51, which would have been insanely soft for that steel. That result was completely off and he corrected it ultimately was in the 59+ range, which is what I've seen with the Lionsteel blades I know were tested; 59.something to. 60 something.

That's some great looking fat carbon but M390 for a fixed blade? Interesting choice. Great review brother 👍

Man, the Italians have been crushing it over last several years.The magnet is one of those good/bad things. The magnet holding the blade is cool idea but if you keep it near your credit card or electronic devices you run the risk of erasing the data. I'm really liking the makro with the spear point. I was thinking of getting a second EDC size fixed blade. I have the M1 from Lionsteel that I love. I was probably going to get another because I love the m390 steel, design and reasonable price, but not I'm not so sure. I want one to keep permanently mounted to my sling bag, this looks like it might be slimmer and might fit better.
@jefftaft6036
@jefftaft6036 Год назад
I'm with you on the love for the Lionsteel M1, it has amazing fit, finish, steel, size and weight. My only wish was for the handle to have a bit more of a finger groove to lock in better. I've never felt it was bad, but I like a more locked in feel - micarta options would be a plus too!
@timwhite5562

@@Theflyestfisherman Traded it in where? Agreed. I ended up adding enough of a lanyard to get a full 4 finger grip. It works way better & is still a small compact size.

MkM and viper both use the same heat treatment facility that lionsteel does. Poor m390 heat treatment for edge retention. Apparently they might change their heat treatment soon, but that has yet to be determined and tested. Most of the Italian companies use Trattamenti Termici Todesco S.a.s. for heat treatment. The m390 protocol for them was developed by Molleta a knife designer in Italy. They don't use ln2 in the process at all and they aim for +-60hrc. They also might burn the edges in grinding/sharpening from looking at the factory tour.
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 2 года назад
Agreed, I haven't tested any of their m390 lately and haven't seen any current tests, so I didn't want to make a huge statement because I've spoken about it alot
@timwhite5562
@timwhite5562 Год назад
I've seen a bunch of Lionsteel get tested, they were all in the 59.something to 60.something. there was a lot of online chatter about bad heat treats that all originated from a video someone did where he said it had a 51HRC on a Lionsteel. He later took it down and reported that the 51 was erroneous and it was actually in the 59+ range
@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 Год назад
@@timwhite5562 they were 60rc but cut testing showed they had poor microstructure. They didn't even use liquid nitrogen. Heck even lionsteel admitted in testing there m390 was poor performance. The heat treat protocol dictates the microstructure. You dont even understand that hrc doesn't mean anything if you have a poor microstructure.

I'm curious as to if the grind and bevel was centered on the Berus'. I swear that I'm cursed with these knives, and Chicago Knife Works. I ordered the Berus 1 with black scales, they sent me one with green scales and an uneven bevel. Normally I'd chalk that up to just how they come sometimes, but my cutoff for that is around the $120 mark. I could even it out, but looking at it; I would have to take a significant amount of steel back. So I sent it back. Two weeks ago I got the replacement…it was the same knife I had just returned, not the same model: the same exact knife. I could tell because the seal was broken and I had sliced the plastic bag the knife was in, and the cardboard the blade was stowed in. So I sent it back again. I received the replacement yesterday; it was a different knife, but still with the wrong color and still with a skewed grind. Furthermore the sheath was REALLY hard to draw the knife out of the first time, from watching reviews I gather that this is a common thing with these sheaths. I kept it the second time for a few days and it had loosened enough that it came out easier, but still held it's secure. This one feels much looser than the previous one right out of the box, which has the implication that this one will probably start falling right out after a short while. Honestly I couldn't decide between this knife and one of the MKM Makros (I have the drop point but was thinking of buying a second in sheep's foot). It was basically a flip of the coin to decide on this one. I'm not one that looks to signs and portents in the stars, if I did I'd say the universe is screaming in my ear to get the other one. Third time wasn't the charm, I doubt a fourth will be.

I had to heat my kydex sheath for the berus because mine came from a bad batch and the knife would fall out by itself. Bad knife retention from my experience so I wouldn't trust it. Had to email knifecenter and they actually pulled them from stock for a while because they all had the same issue. Shame for such an expensive knife.
