Great comprehensive review, thank you. I really like this knife and it will be my first fixed blade edc knife, as normally I would have folding pocket knives. But the thing that attracts me to the fixed blade knife is the sturdiness and simplicity… ie no moving parts mechanism, especially if you happen to be cutting food and worried about it clogging up moving parts etc. Looking forward to the new one with lava red handle scales 😊.
I like those knives and your thoughts about them are bang on, as usual, Fredrik. I prefer the drop point, too. However, I guess the sheeps foot blade, in theory, would have a stronger point if that's important to someone. I like that you did the feather stick test, too. I prefer leather sheaths, but that Kydex system is very nice and in this case perhaps preferable. What did you think about the Ruana video and their knives? I'm very impressed with mine. Do you want me to try to send you a picture of mine via your FB message, if I can find it?
They're great small sized knives, with great value for the money too. The Makro 2 (sheeps foot) is growing on me, but drop point is hard to beat. ;) I would have done more outdoor testing if not for the snow storm that's been going on for a few days. Oh, and I'll alternate between the sheaths depending on setting/situation. I did watch the Ruana-video and that was an interesting watch indeed! I migh pick one up some day, but right now I have too many knives (and axes and hatchets too!) waiting to be reviewd/shown on my channel. I would have liked very much to see a photo of your Ruana, but Facebook deleted my entire profile the 17th of December (along with Messenger and Instagram). I got hacked (despite having 2 factor verification) and the "customer support" of Facebook is non existant, only AI and robots, that won't help in any way. Not that I'm a fan of Facebook per se, but I did enjoy all the knife-groups and most of my communication with friends was actually done via Messenger. I'm in a bit of a tough spot right now. Glad my YT-channel is still alive, though!
@@PinkG10 Depending upon which batch of knives Ruana is working on, it actually could take awhile before getting the one you'd order. I was super lucky (and they told me that). When I ordered my Reliable, that was the batch they were doing and fortunately were doing a few more than had been ordered. So they put my name on one. Sorry to hear about your FB page being hacked. I tried to find you a few weeks ago and couldn't. Now I understand why. 😞 We just had a series of storms lasting 7 days. Some of the mtn passes near me (I live in Colorado) rec'd more than 4' (122cm) of snow. We need it all, we've been in a terrible long term (years) drought.
Can't believe you chose these m390 canvas micarta knives when for $10 less you could get the VG10 and plastic Spyderco Enuff... Seriously though, really nice knives! Are you gonna be getting the Maxace Vortex?
Hey! I sure am thinking about picking a Vortex up (it would be my largest folder by far, lol!), but I'm also considering getting the Dragon w/ mirror polished blade (totally useless knife from a practical standpoint, but I kind of want it, heh). Maxace has a lot of nice models going for them right now.
@@PinkG10 White mountain knives has one (possibly more than one) of the mirror polished Dragons. I handled one when they were first released and it was ridiculously high quality. I'm definitely getting a Vortex! It's the most excited I've been for a knife since the Spyderco/BBB Collab was announced in 2019. I have almost all of the big Spydies, but the Vortex will still be my biggest folder by quite a bit.
@@vanrickenstien - I don't have any experience of the Enuff, but looking at the specs. and some photos and videos, I'd go with the Makro. The Makro is pretty amazing tbh.
It’s interesting to see your taste in blades. Being a mostly visual person myself, the primitive part of my brain is highly attracted to the beauty and quality much like a Super Model. Then when the thought enters my conciseness, logic and reason take over. Much like having that Hot Trophy wife. I start thinking she just wants my money and all she’s going to do is sit around and look pretty. So I tend to end up with a mundane wife that will cook, clean and take care of me. Fortunately I’m not married and can afford to have lots of girlfriends...lol
From my videos, one can perhaps think that I have no specific taste in blades, but I surely do. There're knives in all prize ranges that I like and enjoy, but at the same time there're quite a few knives (in all prize ranges) that I'm not really into (for very different reasons). I appreciate many types of overall designs, blade steels and materials (steels, synthetic, natural etc.). I have my prefered preferences for fixed blades, folders, hatchets and axes. I'm thinking of making a video in which I talk a little bit about those aspects. Right now, I'm planning on making brand specific-videos, i.e videos in which I talk and show all of my folders from a specific maker (like Olamic), all of my fixed blade from a specific maker (like Bark River), all of my axes from a specific maker (like Gränsfors Bruk) and so on. I also want to make a complete collection video for ALL of my fixed blades, folders, axes etc. Those videos will require A TON of work, but I think they would be pretty spectacular tbh. Oh, and I'm married. For better or worse, lol. :p
We have similar tastes in blades. I actually started with axes but I think I have more fixed blades than anything else. Your Bark River collection videos is how I found you years ago...Look forward to your new video ideas.
That was only for the printing paper, not the magazine paper nor newspaper (as can be seen in this video). And that was due to the fact that knives would not slice the printing paper as nicely. I do, however, like to utilize as much of the edge as possible for my cutting tests, which can result in saw-like motions when the cutting edge is limited in size. Any way, I hope you enjoyed parts of this video. Maybe the fine feathers were more to your liking? ;)
