A video describing how to adjust valves on a Kawasaki 700 based ATV engine. This will work for the Prairie, Brute, V-Force and Teryx. This is how to adjust the valves without using the reference marks on the flywheel.

Thanks for the video. I bought my 700 KFX with a dead battery but the guy got it started after a jumping it and cranking it over several times. Well, long story short it turned it is was a hard starter because someone made the valves to tight so every time it would come up to the compression stroke it would puff out the carb so it meant the valve was still open during the compression stroke so I went about setting the valves and after completion it fired up with hardly any effort at all so anyone having hard starting issues and when cranking it over there is a mist coming out of the carb while turning it over your dealing with valves that are over tightened. Hope my experience can help someone else.
KFX 700 TWIN ATV SERVICE MANUAL SPECS. (all carb. units ) turn the crankshaft counterclockwise with a wrench on the alternator rotor bolt until “T-R” mark on the alternator rotor aligns with the notch on housing ( screw plug hole ) the end of the compression stroke in the rear cylinder head. • Measure the clearance for all four valves, one at a time between the end of the valve stem and the adjusting screw with the thickness gauge. Valve Clearance (when cold) Exhaust: 0.20 ~ 0.25 mm (0.0079 ~ 0.0098 in.)
That's how I have been doing valve adjustments for 45 yrs don't need timing marks valves are open on I &E closed on COMP & Power always repeating I C * P E with adjustment being done on cam base Dia try to adjust between Comp and Power stroke for that cylinder. at * pt.
Preciate the vid Camo. Im a DIY'er and I dont kno everything about engines. I understand the what and the how of the valve adjustment, but whats the why?
