Imma be completely honest, most people +80% dont have the skills for 120hp. Simply put they wouldnt be much slower with a 75hp machine. Dont forget that 75hp for 188kg is still very fast. Also from personal experience a 16 y/o over took me on the track on my R6, guess what he had an A2 dirt bike.

I promise you the bike is rarely the limiting factor when it comes to racing. The vast majority of people who buy 600s will never put all of that horsepower to good use. For me personally, it's the ZX-4RR all day (especially around town). 🏍

My local track has a lightweight GP race that includes bikes 400cc and under. The fastest racers in the class currently are on hopped up ninja 400's. I have yet to see a zx-4rr, but if they are even allowed in the class they will DOMINATE. They have much more tuning potential then the parallel-twin ninja 400 will ever have. Cool little bike, I'd love to get my hands on one

According to someone from Kawasaki (Dave Moss video), the engine placement and swing arm pivot point position is taken from the ZX10RR. For me, the 1 minus is that the front forks are pre-load adjustable only. The front forks as they are are fine for the 'base model', the RR version should have fully adjustable suspension front and rear. Even the RC390 'beginner bike' has more adjustment at the front! The R7 I think is sort of in the same 'class' has better front fork adjustment. It may be 'just' a cartridge change on 1 leg though. I'm sure there will be all sorts of aftermarket parts arriving over the next year.

The zx4rr isnt intended for the US market. Comparing it with the R6 is silly. Both made for different classes, different target audience. Having a 400cc inline 4 is amazing and should be enjoyed on its own. If you want an R6, all power to you. Come on, outside the US, the zx isnt “neutered”, the HP it makes is class leading. This is like comparing a high school student’s education with someone with higher education.

I think the coolest thing about the Apr660, R7 and, now, the 4RR is that now guys have a real option as a move up bike (and really good final destination if they're not superstars) from their KTM 390/Honda CBR300 etc which any ordinary guy is going to outride eventually. And I think another 15hp is doable for both the R7 and 4RR without major surgery.

Here in Philippines race tack coaches are considering zx4rr a race track friendly, specially if you make some modification like, racing fairings, race tires(which is normal), steering dumper, clip on handle bars. That was a great side by side comparing it to the actual R6 lots of great info and actual apples to apples info to look at. And with it and the other super sports that have way more generations under their belts and even the Yamaha 7-cp2 platform that has almost 10 years of development improvements and upgrades along the way. Kawasaki is indeed taking a big swing to live up to bikes way above its own engine size class. But so far Kawasaki is destroying the 400cc and 250cc classes. I can’t wait to see how it compares to the 500cc class bikes and even the Honda CBR 650cc in-line 4 would be a good one. Especially with insurance premiums on the real “600cc super sports” and of course Liter bikes vs all these new small displacement sports bikes that are coming out!!!

That's why I like the 636 engine Kawasaki uses on their ZX-6R, its very nice torque curve. You can accelerate decent in any gear (even puttering 40 mph in 6th gear its surprising how useable it is to accelerate in town without downshifting). Of course it still can do a power wheelie easily at highway speeds when you decide to pass (use 2nd gear for 70 mph pass and lean forward and don't floor it, because its still going to hover up slowly). I think the low power mode also smooths it out some, which is nice for starting on (it still ramps up, but its not bad). Its a lot more linear than my car with a Wankel rotary engine (you don't hit peak torque until 6,500 rpm, then suddenly its basically V-tec with a secondary intake port opening up and screams all the way to 9,500 rpm stock when you need to slam into the next gear). That car is completely out of power below 4,000 rpm, like 2 hamsters, but those hamsters are running against each other...

@jakegarrett8109 Год назад
Looks are subjective (I think his looks pretty classic), but Kawi still makes the ZX-6R and its stock 134 HP and its more powerful in all ranges (the low end is pretty nice too, you can putter 40 mph in 6th gear then accelerate decent in town without needing to downshift, but you can still do power wheelies on the highway with ease if you use 2nd gear if you're cruising 70 mph and want to lift that front wheel while you pass someone). I don't see the issue with having an older classic or iconic looking bike. I like some of the more retro stuff (though I don't like drum brakes, I get that they exist, but so does dragging your feet screaming trying to stop before the intersection, and even though that technique exists I'd rather use neither of those when some nice disk brakes will do)

Bike like ZX4R are decent daily riders for it's upright ergonomics. For Americans they have this luxury of having race track in their locality which we don't have in most Asian countries. So, bikes like R6 are superior reels/shorts videos making bikes apart from that they don't fulfill any purpose as per present scenario in Asia. Also, in overpopulated Asian countries it's rare to find a decent empty roads to unleash the full power of R6.

My biggest complaints about the zx4rr is the weight. Sure its down on power compared to what its supposed to be. But you can tune it to be 80hp like as advertised. Its a lot harder to drop weight in ay significant amounts and keep it street legal

@Antonio Endres tune and exhaust. It's sad tho cause either will void the warranty. It was touted as having 85hp by kawasaki. So they duped everyone in America. The European models have the 85hp that is claimed

I was hoping for the ergonomics on the ZX4 to be more aggressive. My grandpa would probably like it. It’s sad to see how aggressive ergonomics are getting harder to find these days
@jakegarrett8109
@jakegarrett8109 Год назад
Then just get the ZX-6R, its got all the nicer things Yam pointed out. If you don't want the full power, set it to low power mode (65% would be roughly 87 HP), and its got traction control just like the 4rr. Only thing it doesn't have stock is auto blip for downshift (it does have quick shift up, which is the important one, or you can turn that off if you prefer). Its also about the same price (I paid less for my 2023 6r than Yam paid for his 4rr), so other than it having more torque (which is kind of nice for the street so you don't HAVE to downshift to accelerate), then it seems like its just what you want.
@johncamara1650
@johncamara1650 Год назад
Yeah, but aggressive ergos were always a disadvantage on the street. Why? Because the more upright you are the more control you have over the bike if the shit hits the fan, traction wise. And in uncontrolled circumstances (the street) that happens all the time. Kind of like a Tour de France type bicycle. I have one and the only thing it does (and it does it phenomenally well) is pedaling efficiency. Bike handles like shit and if traction isn't great, you're flat on your ass

We just uncrated our first zx4rr thursday. And i really think Kaw missed the mark w this model. They have the 400 and 650 already, for the price this should be a zx6rr w a smaller motor and rear tire. Not many will buy this as a beginner bike, its more the "racer-lite" guys that arent afraid of spending a little to have a blast dragging body parts around a track. I still want 1, but only because my zx14r is a bit of a pain to throw transitions and Power 5s dont lean as far as id like...

16k rpm, 10 grand and only 53 hp to the rear wheel? I know i sound like i'm hating on kawasaki but they really should have bumped the redline to 18k. It would probably put 90+ hp from the crank. But it's more expensive than an r7, a thousand less than an rs660. And a couple thousand under the 600 class including the 636 that puts out almost twice the power. I feel like this bike is for a select few people in lightweight track racing
@jakegarrett8109
@jakegarrett8109 Год назад
Raising the redline would not increase power, their max power is at 14,500 rpm, its dropping past that. If they kept the stock 636 pistons and changed stroke to 400cc while using the same piston velocity, they would achieve 101 HP (approximate) stock. Redline would be raised of course, but same piston velocity so no worries about ring float or excessive deceleration/acceleration of the piston (would be higher, but within reasonable limits).

Kawasaki believes there is a market for the zx4r for people that don't want to start out on something they will get looked down on like a R3 ninja 400 Yamaha R7 Ninja 650. Basically a parallel-twin. Because there is a stigma that comes along with having a parallel twin in a so-called Super Sport. And these people are a little afraid of starting out on a 600cc inline 4. Giving them the street cred of a super sport with an inline 4 without having to be as afraid of it
@eirikaustad7580

I love the ZX-4RR, but I think Kawasaki cheaped out too much on this bike. For a tiny bit more you can get a ZX-6R, at least for now, the 2024 ZX-6R is being revealed soon so a price increase is likely incoming, and yet for basically no less than the ZX-6R Kawasaki will give you this bike, and although I love the bike, the frame, swingarm and suspension are disappointing. It looks and feels like it's straight from the ZX-25R, and I'm sure it basically is. The engine itself is probably basically just a bored up ZX-25R engine which is not a bad thing, the horsepower is good, and it's a new 4 cylinder 400cc HP record, but it's that frame, swingarm and front suspension not being fully adjustable for that price tag, not to mention how much more expensive this will be in Europe... Hopefully Suzuki or Honda come out with a competitor that is price competitive, but more true supersport. Yamaha would also be interesting, but personally their 4 cylinder 400cc was always the worst in my opinion. However if they even try to enter this market I have a feeling that could change.
@sleeper.simulant7327

I think Honda with the new Hornet parallel twin in a more street focused sport bike like R7, ZX4RR, or CBR650R styled in terms of ergonomics would be pretty sweet. I’d be interested in that.

Your speedo is off by a ton, lol. Check it with your phone GPS, because at 200 HP you would be edging 185 mph, or 298 kph. Its not uncommon for those speedometers to be off 10% on the high side, yours seems off by more than that but its not surprising. Once you check it with GPS, then you can calibrate it correctly with a speedo healer (so you can keep your phone in your pocket if you want). If you can't afford a phone mount, zip ties are your friend.
