Nick For trout and Kokanee, whenever I'm using my 'yak, rather than using a micro, I use a telescoping pack rod, mini reel, and 8-10 in. test, mono, or braid and mono. I live on the Skagit River, up in Washington State. I fish for Pink Salmon out of the 'yak, when we get our bi-annual run, ( and when game dept. opens it ). Trying to get into surf and jetty fishing, in addition to trout, salmon, steelhead. First trip out to the coast, as soon as the weather evens out. Car camp, fish the Olympic Peninsula for a week, or so...
i bought one of those rods from Bimart just for fun but now it has its place in my truck at all times.... works great for crawling through the brush to get to some secret holes on the little creeks here in our great state of Oregon that I grew up fishing.... Keep it up with the great videos.... RESPECT from JUNCTION CITY, OREGON
Thanks man it’s been fun. I was glad to see that it’s a fairly castable rod. Definitely makes for a good rod to just have in your rig. I’m looking forward to fishing some creeks with it. Thanks for the support man, much appreciated
Thanks Carl!! It was pretty fun catching fish on that rod. It’s 24” whereas the micro rod I got on Amazon extends to like 4-5ft. The smaller rod was much more exciting. Hope you’ve been well..
They pull huge lakers and northern pike out of the ice in MN with rods like that. I have a little ugly stik I purchased 20 years ago to catch Kokanee through the ice but now I’m thinking I need to pull it out and go fishing for trout. 😂
Haha thanks man. This was a pretty epic morning for me. One of those trips where catching fish was just a perk that came with being out on the lake. I think I’m gonna try fishing without a rod one of these times lol
Is the pedal drive always that loud? Or is there something off about it? Or is the noise just louder due to the camera being so close to the pedals? Just curious. Good vid, btw.
It is beautiful out there. The heavy fog made it pretty ominous. I have a couple lights and flags but didn’t use them since nobody else was on the lake and you can’t go more than 10mph there.
Thank you, and yes this is Timothy lake up on Mt Hood. I appreciate you buying some spinners! I need to start restocking a bunch of stuff but that means taking time away from fishing time. I appreciate the support. Good luck out there
Loved the mini/micro rod that was an awesome display! Your kayak looks pretty cool, not sure what it is but it looks nice. Ever consider a fish finder? I'm putting one on my inflatable kayak. I hope to see ya out on the water.🤙
Thanks! That was a lot of fun. I’m glad I picked that little rod up. The kayak is a cascade pro from bi-mart. I ordered it online since they don’t have them in stock at the stores. I am very happy with it so far. I think I will get a fish finder down the road, but I enjoy the simplicity of just paddling around and finding fish on my own. I’m not big on the electronics, though they can be nice to have for sure. I’m glad you enjoyed the vid, thanks for watching!
@@AnglingAddictsPNW Thanks Nick, I love the hands free pedal action. I pedal my bike to work almost every day so it would be pretty easy to pedal around the lake. I'm taking my kayak out to Crescent Lake tomorrow for a week of camping/fishing so wish me luck! I'm targeting three species I haven't caught yet: brown trout, kokanee, and mackinaw. I'm going to try pretty much the same flasher system you were using to troll. I've got multiple other flashers to try too. Good times and tight lines.
The kokanee are super abundant at the deeper depths. I don't think they have any other natural predators in that lake so they overpopulate and don't get much size.
The first fish that I’ve been catching during the early morning have been Kokanee. There definitely seems to be a ton of them, and as you said, all smaller sized.. still fun to catch though
It is a Cascade Pro. I ordered it on Bi-mart’s website. It has been a great investment so far. I really like not having to use paddles, plus I’m able to stand up and fish if I want. My PFD is directly behind me. I always have one but not always wearing it. It’s a calculated risk. Being Safer than sorry is definitely the best judgment though.
I have wanted to try fishing for trout with one of those mini rods forever. Now I’m gonna have to buy one just to have some fun. It’s probably like catching a whale ha ha ha ha ha.
When I saw a tiny rod for so cheap I had to get it. Just seemed like it’d be fun to use at some point. Definitely worth having around in your rig just in case.
That was such an amazing morning on the lake. I didn’t see anyone until I was getting ready to leave. Made it even more special to be the only one out there. Thanks for watching Laurie!
