Recently we decided that we wanted to expand our water adventures and check out under some of the water we've been paddling. We ordered some snorkeling gear and thought we should try it out on our next adventure. We decided to paddle Lake Nantahala, a new destination for us. On the way we stopped by Dry Falls which was worth the extra miles. Join us as we go kayaking and snorkeling at Lake Nantahala.

Glad you enjoyed, I find it interesting that below these reservoirs there is so much history that has been literally washed away. It is simply amazing.

Nice video. I use to do a lot of SCUBA diving from a kayak. It was an inflatable Sevylor Dive-Yak and I still have it to this day. It has special tie-downs for tank, BC, fins, mask, snorkel, etc and worked very well in calm water or even mildly choppy seas. People have asked "How did you get in and out with full dive gear on?" In the owners manual Sevylore explained how to do this and it may even work with a regular kayak. To enter the water you just put on the gear and rolled over the side. Simple. To get back in the kayak on the open water was a bit more tricky but still easy. You swim up to the side of the kayak and take off your BC and tank with enough air in the BC to keep it afloat. If you're using a separate weight belt you'd take that off too and put in on the kayak. Anything heavy came off. Then, while still wearing your fins, you exhaled all the air from your lung as you held the side of the kayak and went down as far as you could. Then you kicked like hell and as you shot up from the water you just let your body fall across the center of the kayak. Now you would swing around and position yourself in the seat and load the gear that was floating next to the kayak. Might be something to try in shallow water with your kayak and if it works you can do entries and exits without being close to shore. Enjoyed watching this.

Thanks for the tip, we are actually looking to expand the fleet with a couple sit on tops so we can anchor and snorkel in deeper water.

@@Kayak7seas That re-entry technique will definitely work with a sit on top kayak and you won't have to worry about tanks, lead weights, regulators, etc. that made the Sevylor very heavy and slow to paddle. Good luck.

Thank you very much for posting this video! We are in the town of Murphy North Carolina and are planning to kayak lake Nantahala tomorrow. From the boat ramp could you give me a little guidance to try to find the stream that enters the lake? That would be a cool little bonus if we could find that. Also if you're interested in North Carolina wilderness lakes our North Carolina house is adjacent to lake hiawassee at the hanging dog day use area of the Nantahala National Forest. It is a pristine 6,000 acre lake and about 99% of it is surrounded by national forest. Thank you again for posting the video. Another one we want to hit is the one you went to in robbinsville. We frequently like to hike there near the Cheoa river. There are two small but beautiful waterfalls over there near robbinsville in case you're in that area again.

We only visited that lake once and can't recall where it was. The best thing it so listen for running water where some of the coves are. 'm pretty sure that's how we found it. I'm guessing with all this recent rain it might even be a more impressive stream. I do still need to check out Lake Hiawassee.

My family and I have only found 3 waterfalls but we could only go up 2 of them. I think one was near a gated community but we couldn’t get back to it because it was to shallow for our boat. I’ve hear that supposedly there are 20 waterfalls scattered around the lake
