What clippers do you use and what do you use them for? Update 30-01-2024: To all the people that mentioned that the visualizer did not look anymore as shown in the video, you were correct. As of v3.5.1 Kazrog removed the peek reduction visualizer and reverted back to the older wave form display due to performance issues. Fortunately, the new version 3.6.0 contains the new visualizer again, very similar to the one that is shown in the video. So get your update :).

Flatline: Better controls, safe clip option while oversampling pancz: light weight, multiband, awesome sound, best visualization in the market yet. Transient shaping also. Limiting option also which is extremely transparent. NYC option also

Thank you for the video! Talking about the soft clipper mode, I think it's good to mention that it starts to saturate the material passing through more as we push the "soft clip" button up. So, as we rise the soft clipping knob, it starts to suck deeper material below the peaks. If you want just to razor-sharp avoid peaks, that's not the best choice because it will change the sound from tonal material...

Hey Shane, great to see, you are further improving the tools. Love this clipper :) Thank you for the update. One thing, breaking the lance for the more colorblind people...it´s really hard or impossible even for some to see the red color. Especially infront of a very dark background. I´d love to see a brighter color in the visualizer for indication of the clipped peaks 🥰

Very helpful! When I first got into mixing and mastering years ago clipping was what was done to make pop music loud but was strongly frowned upon by audiophiles. That being said, I'm glad things have evolved to what I believe to be a fair compromise and I think we're getting much better at using these tools and both the digital and analog to create mixes that sound better than ever!

I used this clipper on the snare drum, because I couldn't get enough volume on the snare. I clipped off a little bit, and raised the volume. It worked like a CHARM! When I turn the clipper off & on, I hear no difference. The clipping does nothing to the sound that the human ears can detect, as long as it's a subtle clip. This saved me time & patience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great video. Lovely plug-in. I have a silly question 🙋‍♂️. What if you use a compressor ( peak mode ) or multiband compressor to prevent all your peaks on busses or individual channels, so your limiter don’t work a lot at the end of you mix. Or what if you use a limiter on each bus to catch all the peaks before they get into your your master channel? Do you think you could get the same results without using a clipper ? Thanks 😊 BTW sometimes I use waveshaper by Melda as a clipper on my master buss to get similar results or Gclip, camelphat.
@LanewoodStudios
@LanewoodStudios 2 года назад
Yes there are definitely multiple ways to control the transient peaks. The clipper is just a very effective way that can also impart some character if need be. If you want to stay as transparent as possible, probably multiple limiters are your best bet.

hey @LanewoodStudios - I'm wondering if you've ever noticed one interesting thing after applying KClip to the audio channel - it looks like if you cut the low end from the sound (lets say it's hats and you want no low end on them) by applying the equalizer, then apply KClip, then add a spectral analyzer - you'll see the low end there again (though it's looks quiter than before). is there any way to get rid of the low end post-KClip completely?
@LanewoodStudios
@LanewoodStudios Год назад
Ha, I've never noticed this myself. You're saying it changes the working of the previous plugin in the chain? Are you sure you're not just increasing the level in the clipper?
@alexanderdashko3909
@alexanderdashko3909 Год назад
@@LanewoodStudios I've prepared a small Ableton demo project to test it out, tried to paste a screenshot link there, but unfortunately youtube doesn't allow me to do that, so I'll just express the problem verbally. here's what I do: 1. load a jungle sample / loop into the audio channel - originally it has a wide frequency range, low end + mid range + high end 2. add spectral analyzer - it shows the presence of the low end 3. add eq - cut everything below 200 Hz 4. add another spectral analyzer - it show the low end is gone 5. add KClip - settings are: in 15 dB, out 0 dB, ceiling 0 dB 6. add another spectral analyzer - it shows the presence of the low end (albeit less than in step 2) 7. add a loudness meter - it shows 0 peak max as expected 8. add another eq - again cut everything below 200 Hz 9. add another loudness meter - here's the culprit - it shows 6.7 peak max so basically what's happening is that I'm able either to: 1. get the channel clipped properly, but have an unwanted low end 2. get the channel clipped properly + eq out the low end, but the channel gets, well, unclipped again
@LanewoodStudios
@LanewoodStudios Год назад
@@alexanderdashko3909 I don’t know what’s happening for you exactly but in step 5 I would use out: -15dB so that the level before and after the clipper stays the same. I think that is the reason you are measuring bass again in the following analyzer. Actually pushing up to 0 dB I do with a limiter following the clipper. And I only do that on the mix bus or during mastering. When I use the clipper on the drum bus in a mix (so not on the mix bus) I only use it to shave of peaks on the drums. No reason to push the level up in that case.

I believe they got rid of the clip view in the UI I'm using in this video because of performance issues. So the latest version probably only has the wave display like they had before the clip view. The clip view always seemed more useful to me so I hope they will add it again.

Why would you use a clipper in the master bus when you could use a limiter? When a clipper causes distortion/saturation I don't understand that well
@LanewoodStudios
@LanewoodStudios 2 года назад
If you just take off the worst peaks before the limiter, the final limiter has to work less 'hard' and can sound better. And just taking off the worst peaks with a clipper can be quite transparent as well by the way, or more gritty if you want it to be. See e.g. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tai0VW6FZnk.html You can also use two limiters in a row for this by the way. The first to get rid of the worst peaks, and the final one to do more extreme limiting to get the loudness up. It's a well known strategy for using limiters in mastering. Again a Streaky link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JkzAXYJ3Uz4.html

The Clipper adds lots of character, especially in hard-mode, if you are going for that. And yeah, it can help the following limiter if you use the clipper conservatively.

There are actually many theories about that 😉. The one which I usually go for says that you should not do it at the end since not everyone will stay till the end, so you reach fewer people. You should also not do it at the beginning because you have not delivered any value yet so why should someone already subscribe. Therefore I usually do it when I've demoed some important things and at the end of a section that is indicated by timestamps in the description and on the player progress bar. So if you see the ad part you can just navigate to the next timestamp and you've skipped my subscriber request. Only do so when you've subscribed already of course ;).
