Thanks for the video. You are right about the screw size on the carb. It's a "10mm M4 0.7 pitch" and it costs 72cents for four screws at Home Depot. I have a 2005 LTZ400 and it works perfectly. I know absolutely nothing about engines and after watching this video, I re-jet my carb from a 130stock to a 165. I have a Yoshi Pipe and Velocity Intake with no airbox. I'm at exactly 5000' altitude and ride up to 8000' occasionally.
@400mattandryan i just want to make sure we're on the same page. if you modify your intake or exhaust in any way, you should re-jet your carb. i don't have a full exhaust either, just a slip-on. the reason you are re-jetting it, is to make sure it is not running to lean or rich. if you put on you hi-flow intake and free flowing exhaust, you'll run way lean and risk burning up your piston and top end. you will have more air flowing into the chamber and the jets won't give enough fuel.
somebody asked where to get the new screws for the carb bowl. i forget what size they are, but if you take in your old phillips head screw to the hardware store, look for the socket cap allen head screws. they don't strip out like the phillips do.
kbrawlz i have a z400 and have a fmf q4 slip on exhaust and im thinking if putting a stage 2 jet kit So i can run w/o air box lid would it be running to rich cause its a slip on or would it be fine?
I have a 2008 suzuki z400 and been having a backfire really loud from the exhaust. when have it on neutral or I'm slowing down. My headers are stock but i have a yoshimura slip on exhaust. Any help?
Ocasion 30 : if it’s popping or like a gurgle popping, it’s usually from an exhaust leak, like fresh air going into your joint like at the slip-on to downpipe joint. Mine does because the little aluminum sleeve has worn down and doesn’t seal good anymore. If it’s backfiring, like exploding, maybe you’re too rich and unburned fuel is making it into header and post-detonating. Premium or race fuel is also slower burning than regular gas, maybe using regular unleaded could help if that’s your situation (a guess) Explore those options. Hope it helps 👍
