Fun Fact: the 707 and the KC-135 are physically different aircraft. Not just because one is civil and one is military, but their fuselages are different. The KC-135 isn’t as wide as the 707, because it doesn’t have to carry passengers. They both originated from the same prototype though

@@Aviation_of_Houston Actually Boeing couldn’t get any civilian buyers for the -80 at first and went to the US Military to sell them a jet-powered air-to-air refueling tanker for their growing jet fighter fleet that were having problems flying slow enough to tank off the KC-97. It was based more off the original (short) airframe & modified for tanking. Most airliners sold later were -300 series (longer). So, depending on how you look at it…

@@Aviation_of_Houston -80 is the baseline for both the 707 and 717(KC135) they are different. Visit the Boeing museum south of Seattle and you will see. Tell an AF crew chief or Flight Engineer that the 707 and KC135 are the same and you are going to get serious earful. I know cause I called a 707 type a 135 once.. just once…

No reverse nor ABS/Anti-skid on KC135, just VC-135/707 civil models have!

@@billlewis9362 the KC-135 definitely has anti skid for the brakes. It functions on the pilots pedals only. The copilots brakes do not have antiskid.

The newest one was built in 1963. There were a couple oddball 135s built in 64 for mapping, that were converted to a tanker. The 135 gets rebuilt at depot every few years, so she may be old, but she is current in great shape

I noticed that also.

Rudder gets input from steering, speed of movement indicates powered mode and hydraulic system working. Same for flaps being raised. Testing the hydro, maybe?

i did also notice if u look back at the video it is doing it while the plane is on final too

The air force is not focused on their mission as much as they used to…to busy with other non related mandatory trainings..the mission and equipment shoyld be priority

Depends on the urgency of the emergency and the weight of the aircraft.

The 135 shares some components with the 707, but the fuselage is smaller in diameter than a commercial 707.

@@frankwarden5146 yes the AF crews do a great job. They wouldn't be forced into this position if our aeronautics industry was any good, and if the SysComs would come up with better designs... I'm career Navy and worked in operational testing, so I have huge insights into the issues...

Why retire an aircraft that is still doing its job? The tanker may be old, but they are low mileage

@@robertheinkel6225 they have huge numbers of cycles. The airframes wear out. And you can only upgrade the engines and avionics so much. They are experiencing this right now in trying to get a solution to re-engine the BUFFs. It took a lot of effort to find an engine that could meet the parameters of the original engine and work in a set of 8...

The in flight emergency, like an engine not running, constitutes an emergency. It doesn’t mean it is going to crash every time.
