Kdenlive - Making Custom Effects 

Hey, on that title clip box, at the top it has an H and a W for height and width. Which I think it to allow people to change the height and width of the text box... but it won't let me change them. And my text box is too small. How do you fix this?

@@artofthereal - Thank you for the question! The H and W in the Title window are for the shapes and images that can also be added within a Title. It will show the dimensions of text, but it can't be used with it - to change the sizing of text, I'd suggest increasing the size of the font. Most of the other text adjustments can be added in the Title window (spacing, alignment, etc.). To make other adjustments (such as stretching out the text), this can be done by first creating the title, then adding a "Transform" or "Position and Zoom" effect to add other resizing. Working on the latest release 21.12 in Ubuntu, I confirmed there is a "Cartoon" effect that can be dragged on to a respective clip in the timeline. If you visit the "Effects" tab and search for "Cartoon", it should appear as an option. Hope that helps!

Hi My Studio! Thank you for the question! Kdenlive tends to rely on creating base effects that can be layered and then composed into complex effects. To my knowledge, Kdenlive has not implemented any pre-built transitions to that degree of detail, which is a give-and-take advantage. Using the base effects, it does give more control over the individual elements of the effect, but it also creates more potential work to achieve the desired effect(s). Hope that helps!

Hi Cesar! Thank you for the question! Based on the description, I'd suggest giving the "Alpha strobing" effect a try, which allows for configuring the "strobe interval". Kdenlive tends to rely on building customized effects using the combination of other effects to produce new outcomes. This can work well, as it gives a lot flexibility to control each aspect of the stacked effects. Hope that helps!

Hi KerrBoii! Thank you so much for watching! I took quick look at Twixtor, which appears to be a speed ramping control. Assuming this is correct, #KDEnlive has recently added in a "Time Remap" tool, which achieves this same idea. I have never had Kdenlive crash, no matter what I put on it

Kdenlive Version 21.12.3 on Windows 10 has crashed on me 3 times since I downloaded it last week. I click on something, and it just disappears. When I restart, it offers to restore from where I left off and so far I have not lost any changes. The crashes are annoying but so far I am continuing to use it because the pros outweigh the cons.

@@destiny_02 Haha. Nah, it was a buggy version of kdenlive. I've upgraded kdenlive and it's all good now.

Hi Shady Bluez! Thanks for the question! I did a quick look at this - I don't see a present means to do this, at least on the #Linux side, (using an AppImage, which is a lot like a "self executable" for #Windows), as the #KDEnlive effects components are added to a temporary folder and locked. It's possible that custom-crafted QMLs could be manually added in the #Windows version, but deep knowledge of the application reference libraries and properties would be needed, based on the syntax within the other effect QML files. In checking through the #KDEnlive documentation, I do see that default settings for the existing effects can be manually tweaked in respective XML files (docs.kdenlive.org/en/effects_and_compositions/effects.html#faq), but there does not appear to be a supported means of importing additional effects just yet. Otherwise, the video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-89aCmO_KOTY.html) does show how make custom, re-usable effect combinations within the current options. Hope that helps!
