Amazon KDP ghost categories, duplicate categories and getting your self published books into additional categories are three new areas of KDP categories that have recently come to light after much research by the creator of the popular keyword research tool, Publisher Rocket. This video addresses these new issues that we need to be aware of if we want to give our books the best chance of ranking in their particular categories and therefore making more sales on Amazon.

Thank you, Paul, for bringing this to our attention. I'm just starting out and I want to make sure that all the books I will be publishing have the greatest of chances to make it to the top. I just bought Publisher Rocket and found out I had in fact selected a ghost category for my first book. Thankfully, I hadn't yet published it so I was quite happy to be able to change it without a problem.

As usual, thanks for this clear and concise explanation. However, I disagree. It appears crucial to me to understand all this for a beginner as well. It is hard enough to create and have a book with its head above the water, not to have it thrown into a ghost category for it to drown simply for a lack of understanding of this crucial update. Yes, Publisher Rocket is the tool that keeps on giving, Chesson is very generous in sharing his knowledge. We get so much more than the tool itself when we buy it!

I Really don't understand Amazon search bar. Let's say you are searching Pregnancy journal. It says 926 results. When you go to the 3rd page-the results are over 10000- with a lot of mess, books that are not pregnancy journals. And this is not only for this category.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the video and information. Loving your content. Do you have any insight into books such as diaries, that do not appear to fit into any category now that Amazon have implemented this new system? I'm loathe to tick the low content button for my 2024 Diary as it has different content (both copy/imagery) on every day/page/month, so I'm not sure if there is anywhere to categorise it. I also don't know if I should add it to the Non-Classifiable category... Thank you!

I'm a bit puzzled. Just to clarify, are we limited to having a maximum of 3 categories instead of the previous 10 categories? Is it not possible to reach out to KDP support to add those 7 additional categories?

No, it's not. It is a big improvement as the previous wide selection was frowned upon by Amazon and was leading people to chose absolutely insane, irrelevant categories for their books, all that to get that best seller badge in such an unfair manner. I was waiting for Amazon to clear that up, and they finally did!

Hello Sir, I would like to thank you so much for everything you do. I've finished my first coloring book. But before I upload it on Amazon, I hope you can provide me with a solution to my problem. In the past, I had a typical Amazon account that didn't include any of my details except my name. Next, I used the same computer to create a new account's Amazon KDP by providing my personal information. After that, I closed my previous Amazon account. Will I have any issues if I try to publish my book on Amazon using my second account?

that is the new limit... set up to prevent spam low quality publishers. Some were publishing hundred plus books a day... Amazon said 'no more'

I changed lots of my books categories and some keywords (after listening to Dav) and my sales stopped. Last 16 days not a thing. Never gone without at least 1 sale every few days. Have you kept original categories/keywords? Or did you change some.. if yes did it improve or decrease sales?

Over the years I've changed keywords and categories. I don't recall it ever suddenly stopping sales.

OMG. this is a lot of info to digest on top of all the other info of how to set up kdp, make all the parts and get it all to work. Not sure how being a newish low-content publisher makes a difference. Does being new to this make a difference? How does one get sales if you unknowingly land in a Ghost category.

I made all that from scratch myself Hello, During a recent audit of your account, we found content and/or activities that are in violation of our Terms and Conditions. Therefore, we are closing your account effective immediately. Examples include attempting to publish books that violate our Content… So this is the only thing since then

You're only option is to contact KDP support to appeal the ban although if it has been 6 months that opportunity may have passed.

@@paulmarles I did appeal and have been following up since then. They keep replying saying they are reviewing and will get back to me. Just wanted to know if there was anything else someone tried to get unbanned.
