I think I feel similarly to you on this. I'm not surprised this got patched, it did feel like an unintentional bug since every other task has it's own unique drop from the creatures. But I'm not a fan of how they handled this update (as usual). Sweeping it under the rug by puting it in this middle of the bullet points at the end of the patch notes as if this isn't a huge deal when it comes to rumours, it just feels a bit disingenious to not even discuss it with the community
I think the main reason for this was because of the discovery of the insane rates you could get if you skip out Eagle's Peak. With Experts, you can effectively make all your tasks 4 Falconry and 1 Salamander without the quest. (Novice to block red salamanders. Adept to hold spotted kebbits and block saber-tooth kyatts. Aco to block antelopes. Chins blocked by default since no Eagle Peak). The only way to do similar with Eagle's Peak completed was to first reach 91+ Hunter, and use Master Hunter for one extra block (Novice to block grey chins/sunlight antelope. Aco to block grey chins/sunlight antelope/red chins. Masters to block red chins/sunlight antelope). Narrows it down to 4 falconry and 2 salamanders. Honestly, if the rates without Eagle's Peak this early was that much of an issue, they could have just made the Hunter Guild quest required to start rumors, which will force Eagles Peak. And I do agree that Master sacks should be buffed. They are only marginally better than Experts in regular loot, but same unique rate as Experts. There's no point to completing those, if you can bang out many more expert rumors per hour, and more or less get the same loot at a faster rate.
Damn that feels bad man. I wish they’d make unlockable blocks after x number of completed rumors to make it just slightly more slayer like. That and make deadfall and tracking not suck.
Yeah it is a bit strange, it definitely seemed intentional... Would've been nice for them to comment on it instead of just casually adding it to a list of other changes.
I feel you and understand your comments about them just now changing things, however they released so much content including colosseum that required prioritary fixes and/or changes.
With the pity rate added, the only annoying rumors imo are now the tracking ones, which will actually be fine once they buff the Ring of Pursuit. They should just add that buff in now with all the Hunter stuff rather than wait for Project Rebalance
Double, great video as always and well summarised. In my mind, hunter rumours are dead unless they: 1. Bring back kebbit swapping (not going to happen) 2. Get rid of the bad tasks (also probably not going to happen) 3. Buff the bad tasks (might actually happen) e.g., allow you to set up more than 1 deadfall at a time, bring the improved ring of pursuit out immediately and/or buff xp rates significantly for deadfall and tracking tasks Also separately, pls jagex make the master tier loot noticeably better than expert tier loot. It just makes no sense they are pretty much even when you require 91 hunter for master.
They brought rumours out in good faith but it's half baked on the inside lol idk did they really think just making rumours would fix the content that nobody touches for a reason? Deadfall traps need to be instanced, multiple traps, lower pity also for tracking too, then it would be like a dark beast/black dragon task its just a quickie task. Not sure why experts are exempt from butterfly tasks, they can take the sunlight moths because I'm pushing 99 hunter and still having to hit the pity rate spam clicking 2 different types of useless moths that give me fuck all (lets be honest that prayer jar is mostly for low lvl ironmen...)
Howcome people prefer to block grey chinchompas over orange salamanders? Is this a thing for mains mostly since the chins would still be okay for irons?
Literally green logged yesterday :D also got to 89 hunter from 83 doing expert tasks w/ kebbit swapping. I feel like I got just about maximum value from it, though I was aiming for 91. The absence of changing this in previous patches lulled me into thinking just for a minute that kebbit swapping was here to stay, so I slacked getting to 91
They also changed the fur and meat pouch so it can be opened and it auto puts in the fur and meat, which is great, but with the large ones you can only do that for 14/28 slots. I don't even understand why... after 14 gets put in auto, the fur and meat goes into your inventory and you can put them manually into the pouches until full. ???
I'm just glad I got 99 Hunter only a few days before kebbit swapping was removed. From 96-99 I was reaching almost 300k XP/hr with some runs of really lucky back to back to back to back kebbit swaps. Got the pet too, somehow in the last batch of 20 bags I did for 99!
Good video, agreed with all your points. I wouldn't really care about this if Deadfall tasks weren't so bad - why do box traps and net traps scale with your Hunter level while Deadfall traps only ever let you set one at a time.
100% do not do rumors for now. Jmods already said they're going to tweak some rates, rumors, etc.. It'll probably come in 3-4 months or maybe next year knowing Jagex.
Lesson learned. Next time do good content while it’s good. I understand the desire to make the highest tier rumor the most desired rumor to complete, but this was the wrong take; doubly so with how they tried to sneak it through like this Personally not going to touch rumors until 91 Hunter & waiting at least a few weeks to see the feedback from this update. I am very mad because i grinded 2 weeks expert rumours and got 1200 kc and still dosent got pet and today kebbit method was patched, all my work goes to toilet. Going back to masters atm 1400~ ish kc.
really hope they do something to improve adept cause i went all the way through 71 with adepts and it was really fun. wouldnt recommend anyone do it now which is sad.
POV: Hunter rumors are dead, I was on the fence about them personally before even with Kebbit swapping, now that they're gone Ill never do another rumor tbh

Pretty disappointing change. Overall they have been disappointing me with their bandaid balance changes lately. I’ll still be going for rumors on my baby hcim but yeah, 71 is gonna be a tough grind
the frustration is more to do with communication. Jagex didn't say anything about it until now so by and large people thought Jagex didn't care. now it's gone but it's not like they're rolling back the first month of rewards so sucks to suck if you weren't grinding rumors the whole month and now are stuck with objectively worse rates.
Calling this bug abuse is a rather large stretch, especially considering the ambiguity of whether this was intended gameplay or not. It certainly needed to be changed as it led to too high xp rates especially while not completing eagles peak, but just removing it outright was a poor way of doing it. Ideally, they would have improved the garbage rumors along with this change, but I would've settled for a reduction in xp rates.
