Well I hope you're learning about how great a ketogenic diet ESPECIALLY a Mediterranean based one where you focus on reversing chronic inflammation. So many people that do Keto won't ever go off of it because their tennis elbow comes back. My knee goes out if I have more than 150 carbs for multiple days. Canola and veggie oils are just garbage might as well go back to things that you can squeeze the oils out of, or using lards. Everyone is amazed at how hard I can work, for how long, for how many days, and how much energy I have without eating breakfast. No one has the work ethic I have, even people close to my age because unless they are low carb, they just don't understand how good their body COULD feel and that's on top of losing over 150 pounds after spending almost my entire life trying to calorie restrict myself and over exercising myself into deep suicidal depressions.
@makaisenki
@makaisenki 4 года назад
If I have too many carbs coworkers literally ask me "What's wrong? You seem so different" and when i do get depressed over like someone stealing hundreds of dollars I needed for rent from me, they ask "Did you eat too many carbs or is it something else? You don't seem yourself" I love my diet. Sometimes I literally eat a bunch of calories and then go "Probably gonna put on a bit of weight" but since it's low glycemic I wake up the next morning and find that I actually weigh less. We should be treating Type 2 and Type 3 diabetics as an insulin problem. Insulin shouldn't be given to someone who is not responding well to the insulin their body is swimming in. Their diet HAS to change and why do life altering surgery, when you can just... change your relationship with food in a way that promotes satiety?

I have 3 chronic illnesses and have heard horror stories from the chronic illness community. It’s always the same thing we go through. Dr’s ignore us say nothings wrong, get a lab test and if negative nothings wrong(despite still having symptoms) I have heart issues and a dr told me and wrote it off as anxiety. He wouldn’t even listen to me. I’m not alone here my friends condition is getting worse and no doctor has helped her. I am sure you would help but there are so many doctors have let us down. It took 5 1/2 months to be diagnosed with CRPS I got no help from the doctors. I had to go to Tijuana and I was diagnosed. I feel some doctors just wanna charge insurance others have lost the passion and or don’t care.

I feel that. Living in Germany I fortunately don't have to factor in the financial aspect but I've been dealing with health issues pretty much all my life and got ignored. It took over 20 years of running from doc to doc to figure out what's going on and most doctors just dismissed me bc I'm still so young. I ran around with 2 dislocated disks without any treatment because the docs I talked to didn't believe me there's something wrong despite me hardly being able to walk more than 10 metres. Why? Because I was 26 at the time. I'm 32 now, need walking aids and are in constant crippling pain and still I'm being dismissed because I'm so young. And then they're surprised I'm despressed. Apparently I have fibromyalgia and ME/CFS (latter isn't diagnosed properly yet). I'm treated like I'm just lazy or making it up. I can't work, I need people to take care of me, I can't leave my house without someone escorting me anymore and most of that might have been preventable if doctors had just *listened* and *taken me serious*.

Being a doctor in Pakistan and hearing stuff like "butchers" associated with doctors is very painful. But the reasons of the frustration are very understandable. The sad part is, that the medical fraternity understands the reasons but the patients fail to see what is actually wrong. Imagine, doctors going on a protest because they haven't been paid for 6 months of their services in a public hospital and instead of empathizing with them, the public opinion is swayed towards the unjust and corrupt administration. By having vocal, trusted and eloquent voices in the medical community, we can bridge the gaps. Thank you, Dr. Mike and Dr. SIbert, for playing your part!

I’ve met many doctors in my life and work for a very large and well known healthcare entity. About 80 percent of doctors I’ve met, especially men, are arrogant and slimy. They think they are above patients and everyone else. Their diagnoses are often incomplete and wrong and don’t really care about the patients and what the patients think. You have generations who became doctors not with the hope and will to heal and serve but to be served and doted on bc their parents instilled in them that being a doctor brings you immediate status. Most doctors push medicines and procedure and don’t even try to advise you to lead a healthier life. I love how the answer towards the criticism of doctors is not improving the medical industry. It could never be that maybe the doctors are wrong or are slaves the pharmaceutical companies. The right answer is to blame their patients and clientele. Ridiculous. I’ve suffered from a chronic illness for the past year. The only person that could help me with doctor Eric Berg on RU-vid, he explains how to treat the root cause of a problem. Other doctors just put me on steroids and antibiotics and made things worse. When you come back to their office and explain that the treatments failed, they get even more upset and just tell you the people develop new conditions all the time and then I just have to live with it. And now we’re hit with a barrage of RU-vid doctors that need to give us the lowdown on everything to explain it to the common man. I remember when doctors actually practiced medicine and weren’t content creators. These are the same people responsible for as many deaths as cancer and heart disease. Sick of being gaslit by the medical industry.

Most doctors don't listen. They think they know your body better than you do. But the problem is that they don't have any real accountability for when they are wrong. So they always think they're right. It's disgusting. Doctors used to perform autopsies on a regular basis, to examine and learn how their patients die, to see if their diagnosis matched up with the patients symptoms. But instead of learning and medically advancing, they fear being sued for misdiagnosing their patients, so they stopped performing them, and hence thier narcissistic " dictors are always right" mentality. Disgusting. I'm being ignored, because the test they have performed, are not showing any of the medical diagnosis they are looking for, but if they just listen to me, and do a god damn mri, there's a good chance of finding what's causing my problems. But since the numbers of the blood and urine tests aren't high enough, my insurance won't pay for my MRI, meanwhile, I'm in agony, and homeless, and can't get disability, because doctors won't put the word in for me. I'd rather be healthy, but I'm just fucked now. And the problem Is, I'm far from alone in my situation. Doctors sucks, because they will everything in their power to keep that paycheck coming, especially after they put in the work for the degree. I hate this life. It's all about money
@sharonjensen3016
@sharonjensen3016 Месяц назад
This is especially true if you're a woman with a disability. As soon as a doctor finds out I have autism, out comes the pen and prescription pad. I'm not making this up. I've seen it. When a doctor shows me who they are the first time, I believe them.

I think sometimes it has to be quantity just because there aren't enough doctor's around already, I know in some areas there are a lot of people living compared to doctor's, so some docs have to take in as many as 10k patients from their area, that would be seeing around 40 patients a day, and to that add admin stuff etc, there sadly just isn't enough time to give quality care

I have already faced this issue of shortages of doctors. I went to the VA, seen a psychologist a few times who evaluated me, helped me with different therapies to overcome my PTSD, and ultimately recommended and requested I talk to a psychiatrist still to incorporate the appropriate medications to improve the various cognitive therapies and exposure therapies I was working on with her. 3 weeks later she asked if I was seeing the psychiatrist she requested and I told her that I never received a call. She then took me to administration and asked why I wasn't scheduled to meet a psychiatrist and they told her that there simply wasn't one available and that they wouldn't be able to schedule one for about 3 months. The urgency of the matter nor necessity had no bearing on the reality, which was there wasn't enough doctors there. I ran into a similar issue when my primary care doctor left and they didn't have an immediate replacement. It is a horrifying feeling and one that enlightens us to a hard fact that even with proper coverage or reasonable insurance, in my case free healthcare entirely, none of that matters if the doctors go away. Luckily they have some programs now to help outsource in cases like that but at the time it was very worrying as I didn't know what to do and was being told that there was nothing anyone there could do.

They don’t realize that we have lots of reasons for asking the things we ask or doing the things we do. And cussing at us or treating us horribly won’t get you anywhere. I’m sure you have a medical biller, referral coordinator, medical coder and possibly a scribe helping you and your patients get that quality care you provide. That wasn’t enough so then we tried a cortisone shot (which insurance covered) when that only gave me temporary relief and he didn’t want to risk long-term damage by giving me cortisone shots every 5-6 months. I ended up paying out of pocket for a new treatment that my insurance considered experimental. My dad graduated from medial school in 1950. I worked for him through my teenage years, to the end of college. When he passed away in 1986, I closed his books for him and archived his patient records. It was a real eye opener. When he first opened his solo practice, an office visit cost $5, and a shot was $3. By the time he left general medicine in around 1975, an office visit was over $100 and shots were way up there, too. The difference? When he opened there was very little medical insurance and what patients had it, had it through their union and the processing was pretty simple (that was one of my jobs). By the time he stopped general medicine, processing insurance had become a nightmare. Insurance companies frequently reject a claim on the first three tries, which means the doc has to hire someone to keep processing the same procedure again and again. The MD's I know have multiple people on their staff that do nothing but process claims. The reason we spend so much money on health care in this country is at the hands of insurance companies and big pharma. The more they've taken over, and the more what used to be called GP's, have to refer away the interesting cases to specialists, the less satisfying it has become. And insurance companies tell them how much time they can spend with a patient and what they can prescribe. It drove my dad to drop insurance altogether, and to make changes to the way he practiced. I went into technology myself, and my income was higher than the average physician. I didn't even get a degree in it. I didn't have to deal with insurance companies. And I didn't have to worry about accidentally harming someone. That we are the only advanced country that doesn't have some kind of universal health care program is ridiculous--though ACA was a good first step. We could cut our costs immediately and put people to work doing something more useful than denying claims.

I referred to our company as “herding cattle”. I worked for a PA in that facility that didn’t care about the “time allotted” and did what was needed for the patient. I was proud to work for her. But none of us in the clinic could say how much images would cost. I just felt like that company was causing doctors to be burned out as well as the staff that helped the doctors.

sarahwithstars that’s horrible. I’m not familiar with the UK. Do you pay for your insurance or is it provided to you at no cost. Just wondering. For a doctor to see a patient for only 8-15min is bullshit! Doctors need time with their patients. Now what I was referring to was a clinic that was owned by a healthcare company. A doctor that owns his own practice is allowed to do his visit as he pleases. He schedules his patients how he chooses because it’s his own practice. But the doctors here in US may address other issues but can only bill for 1 issue on the ICD-10 codes so they usually pick the one that pays the best.

Reading comments from fellow doctors I think the concensus is that the problems are more or less the same all around the world. 1. Population to Doctor ratio is high 2. Not enough funding from government for specialist residencies 3. Monopoly of Pharma companies and Corporate hospitals 4. Misled opinion/misunderstanding of people towards medical community 5. Long working hours and shifts 6. Lack of security at hospital (esp. in developing countries)

I'd add not enough funding or resources for primary care medicine. Free healthcare in my country is good when you have a life threatening condition, but terrible for outpatient care and prevention. ERs or their equivalent for urgency cases are full of people with a broken leg, stomach bug, skin infection or kids with a fever because they don't know where else to go.

I was straight up ignored for 7 years before I got any answers, being called crazy, fat, attention-seeking, depressed, and just generally a bad patient simply because I wouldn't take "there's nothing wrong with you" as an answer. I learned I had Fibromyalgia on my 16th birthday. Best doctor I ever talked to and the most emotionally fueled day of my life. Just two weeks ago I was told I couldn't have treatment for my complex disease because hardly any insurance covers it. It's really scary when I am a person with chronic and debilitating health conditions who took a lifetime to find the right diagnoses due to my complex medical conditions, and now that I have the answers , my doctor has to dance around a broken system to try to help me. This system hurts doctors and patients. Not to mention so many psychologists in my area won't even take insurance anymore and just do sliding scales because insurance is so horrible to deal with if you are only one doctor and can't afford to hire a medical biller. Insurance companies literally make money from NOT helping people. They freely admit it. They're useless. It needs to change and I really hope it does soon.

I work in a scheduling/messaging center for a group of doctor's offices. The amount of calls I get daily where the only issue is a prior auth is staggering. Sooooo many people who call and say "my insurance says they dont know why I need (take your pick: MRI, medication, PT, the list goes on)" And the patient is upset because their insurance has told them they have no information, when very often the patient has been there for YEARS.. So then the office has to set up a P2P, or spend hours calling insurance, and very often it takes well over an hour to get to a person.. Then the patient calls and says "why isnt this done?" Well, it's pending, we have to wait for insurance (and of course insurance will still say they don't have it to the patient even if we have proof) It's just so frustrating.

The patients don't understand this so they turn their anger and frustration on us. I hate when I have to present a $500 medication or they need a prior authorization, etc because I do feel bad that we can't help them. But we also have the people who think we're trying to scam them in some way when we really have nothing to do with the prices of medication. This is why so many techs are trying to get away from outpatient and retail settings, we don't want to deal with that on a daily basis.

I think the stereotype of doctors going golfing is because every once and a while you experience it. I had the first appointment of the day at 9am. I watched the waiting room fill up and the doctor come strolling in after 10 and he didn't see me until after 10:30. When I talked to the front desk nurse, she said this was the daily routine. I guess it never occurred to this doctor that if she showed up for work at 9, his waiting room wouldn't fill up and his wait times wouldn't be so bad. And before someone asks, the office closed at 4.

I appreciate this video very much. It helps explain a lot of the animosity towards doctors and healthcare with relation to cost and such. My only gripe towards some doctors is, they sometimes don't listen. They may hear you, but they don't listen. I had lower back pain starting at 14 years old. I tried everything; 2 family med docs, 2 spine surgeons who collectively put 14 needles in my spine for cortisone injections, 2 physical therapists, a chiropractor, and a spinal decompression therapist. None of them listened to me. None of them tried to understand what kind of pain I was in. It wasn't until I was 22 years old and saw a minimally invasive spine surgeon who finally saw and understood that I was in pain and offered me exactly what I needed. Surgery. And I've been pain free for 7 years now. This story is one of many for me where some doctors just don't listen... I always hold out hope for those that do because I've had a few, but the majority don't.
@jbrich16
@jbrich16 Год назад
I mean if they hadn't listened to you they would not have treated you in the first place because physical therapy and injections are treatments. Insurance in a lot of cases will not pay for surgery until you exhaust all those other options. Think about the risk of a spinal surgery and the failure rate. Surgery is never first line treatment for back pain unless there is a serious compression that can cause paralysis.

i wish i had stood up to medical doctors in my life. i kept quite and they destroyed my life by ignoring a diagnosis of cfs/m.e. Not one medical doctor both GP and or consultant took it seriously There is serious lack of health knowledge amongst doctors and they focus on acute trauma principles for chronic disease. Not one medical doctor i saw talked about any health related concepts including nutrtion. This may be a wake up call but the level of chronic disease is appaling and the medical doctors are not trained on healing becuase they dont believe in healing chronic disease. Integrative and functional doctors are much better than the clasically trained medical doctor. Its a mess! You should educate patients about health. In my personal life i had medical doctors, talk down to me, yell at me. Please look at your selves and dont think you are GODS becuase your not. True health professionals focus on core health principles and can turn around most of the chronic disease (with willing patients). Many medical doctros dont believe in these healing techniques and are primarly acute trauma respondents and symptom supression service.

The issue with these cases is we only see our side of the story and we don't get the Doctor's side. Very often, opioid addicts will go to the doctor and complain about some pain that doesn't actually exist so they can get their fix. This is especially true of female opioid addicts who often say that they have extreme periods to justify getting opiates. It's gotten so bad that governments have had to step in and restrict who gets opiates, less the hospitals be hit with massive fines. Doctors might be reacting the way they do as a defense mechanism because before you arrived, they had a dozen coked out women complain about period cramps to try and get more pain killers, so they assume you are just another in the bunch. It doesn't excuse their actions, but between what they have seen on a daily basis mixed with the hefty fines that can be levied against them mixed again with their extreme workload and it's not really surprising they react the way they do towards you. Again, doesn't justify their actions, but merely explains them. It's not really their fault, and they are doing the best they can with what very little they are given.

I have been to doctors in North Carolina, Kentucky and Colorado... Colorado is the closest to what I hear you say your practice is like, but the hospitals are the same across. Without this side of it, there is a clear divide between doctors and patients. I feel, because I am not a professional, that this helps these gigantic insurance companies keep operating as is and big pharma to do the same, but if doctors are open and talk to, instead of at, their patients, maybe it is possible find a better solution.

Speaking of the growing shortage of physicians, I was wondering if you would consider making a video addressing the struggle of getting into medical school. The need for doctors is growing rapidly yet it seems as though it’s only getting more competitive to get into medical school. Obviously physicians need to be extremely knowledgeable and qualified, but there are probably many qualified students who either didn’t get into med school on their first try and gave up or who never tried because of the extremely low acceptance rates. It seems like it shouldn’t be this competitive to to fill a position that we’re in dire need of and this points to a very broken system that I’d like to hear your opinions on.
@LaurenMichelleMD
@LaurenMichelleMD 4 года назад
It's competitive because far more people apply than there are spots available. Opening more medical schools wouldn't ultimately solve the problem either, because residency spots are already limited as it is (federally funded), and there are still US medical student graduating seniors who don't match into residency positions because of this. I myself am a medical student and I had to apply twice to get in

@@luisff7030 I'm a med student from Portugal, and let me tell you, that the problem here, is not lack of medical schools, trust me, we have more than enough students, especially considering the size of our population. The problem right now is the lack of spots for specialization programs (internship) because first, we do not have enough specialists to teach these new doctors in the SNS, and secondly, the government is not investing as much as it could in the SNS, at least not enough to retain health professionals in the public system. Nowadays, you have medical students graduating and not getting a spot in post-graduation specialization, so their choice is either, try again next year or go to other countries and finish their education there. Also, there are no medicine courses in private universities here in Portugal, so you're either accepted in public universities (which in medicine's case is highly competitive), or you have to try again the next year or go study in another country which is also common.

Numbers are emerging, and also from what I've read online, a "whistleblower" health care provider (I don't remember whether it was a doctor or a nurse) said that the actual number of infected people has reached a hundred thousands, this could be wrong tho but highly possible.

Also apparently it has a mortality rate of around 2% (a lot less than Ebola, etc.) and the people who die of it are the ones with a weak immune system (elders, sick people). Very young children don't seem to be affected by it though.

Rachael Swiftie actually the actual number announced by the Chinese should be multiplied by at least 10 since a lot of people passed away without reporting the actual cause of death

@@rubywong7783 possible, since I said could have reached 100,000s (a bit of a reach), but yea 10,000 is also very possible. Also, apparently it could be spread through eyes, a famous medical professional in China apparently tested positive from visiting patients withouth goggles. He caught conjunctivitis before showing other symptomps.

I love that Doctor Mike uses his platform to talk about important issues that we (those not in the medical profession) would otherwise have no way of knowing. I respect and support his values and approach 👏🏻 Bravo
