You can mix the mesh, either steel or copper, with silicone. That way the steel mesh won't rust, and the mice will not be able to push it or pull it. Bingo!!!!

Interesting idea Superjoseco! I haven't heard of that one before, but makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

Yes this is good. Use THICK course steel whool. The fine steel is better for insects or cleaning surfaces.

I found copper mesh only effective if you roll it up. If you’re trying to use it as a barrier over an opening (instead of hardware cloth) the rats can chew through that like butter!

Reading this after I just tried to blanket a huge opening in my cupboards with some copper mesh, PL glue and heavy duty staples lol
@MikeCee7
@MikeCee7 Месяц назад
@@jays6553 let me know how it works out, with using the copper mesh. I had a rat bitten hole in my wall coming from the garage that I covered with copper mesh strips, (but the hole was behind a piece of furniture). & I didn’t find out until later, that eat right through that copper mesh. - Do you have a hole in your cupboard coming from the bottom? or coming from behind the wall?

@@MikeCee7 Unfortunately we have more than just holes. We have large cut outs from when we made the mistake of letting the insurance handle repairs after our kitchen had a major leak years ago. So I’m not able to just stuff mesh into a little hole, I have a large area to cover and I also have to get around the drain pipe etc. I’ll let you know how it goes
@MikeCee7
@MikeCee7 Месяц назад
@@veejs05 I would use hardware cloth. That’s much stronger than copper mesh. (Copper mesh is only better to fold & “stuff” inside brick wall weep holes)

Is there a difference between stainless steel wool and regular steel wool? I heard that regular steel wool can rust but stainless steel wool wont.

I would use both the copper and the spray if it was me. sounds like just wear gloves anyway since dealing with pest issues lol

i plan to use steel wool and spray off together with the both end of the hydronic baseboard heater. have you done it before? i am a bit worried because of the heat. Will it catch on fire or produce vapor and gas?
@propertymanagementguy6619
@propertymanagementguy6619 Год назад
Hi Terry- I haven’t used it near any hot surfaces as I’m not sure it’s rated for that. I’d use steel wool or copper mesh or even sheet metal to cover thst

What did you end up doing? I am contemplating the same thing.
@terryhe2665
@terryhe2665 Год назад
@@BucketsMan24 I didn't use spray foam as I didn't want chance with the potential fume. I knew the building manager wouldnt be ok with it. I end up using more and compacted steel wool instead.

I have about a 3 inch opening around the outside pipe going into my kitchen. I don’t know if it’s the gas line or water line. Is it ok to use that foam around it? Or what do you think

Would caulk work instead of foam spray?
@propertymanagementguy6619
@propertymanagementguy6619 Год назад
Caulk can work except that rodents can eat through that if they really want to get through. The pest block foam spray has a chemical that tastes bad to rodents that usually stops them from eating through it.

Could you push steel wool or mesh in the whole follow it with foam spray?
@propertymanagementguy6619
@propertymanagementguy6619 Год назад
Absolutely. That is a great approach. It’s one more layer of defense besides just the foam. It also helps act as something for the foam to grab on when you are spraying

And if it's outside, it will help protect the steel wool from rusting quickly.

That fine grade wool is not recommended. Try medium grade. Grade 1.
