To the Roku TOS changes issue: The law should be that the same methods to Consent/Accept something need to be used to Deny as well... with a similar number of clicks and entry process. If the method to consent is a single button on the screen then the method to Deny should ALSO be a single button on the screen. Forcing people to mail in a Denial of Consent is ludicrous.

I worked on an audit of a large oil company. I was part of a team of a dozen lawyers working 100 hours a week for 2 months doing document review. Made my annual salary in those 2 months due to overtime. The amount of crap they had pulled was making the project lead tear her hair out. The rest of us, who did not need to deal with the aftermath of what we were finding, were more just amused by it. They were basically building rigs just to write them off their taxes. That doesn't work in general. They were able to get money to do the development they otherwise wouldn't have had, and then write off the loss, so it was a net profit for the company. It was an independent audit, so we were not working directly for the IRS or for the company. The money came from the company, but they had no say in hiring, firing, or our activity. I don't know if anything came of the findings later. I never saw it in the news.

You worked seven 14 hour days a week? Or did you do five 20 hour days? Sure, bud.
@Sam_on_YouTube
@Sam_on_YouTube 7 месяцев назад
@@isaackvasager9957 It was 14-16 hours a day. Usually 1 day off, not always. 80-100 per week, not 100 every week. Most of the people who signed on dropped off. We got off for a huge blizzard and for Christmas and Thanksgiving. But there's people who put in crazy hours who aren't so lucky to get paid $40 per hour plus (circa 2010) time and a half sitting in a nice desk chair behind a computer in a comfortable office. It wasn't manual labor. I did another job for the same company (it was a doc review company) for AT&T. That one was REALLY easy. They frequently didn't have the documents prepared for us, but they were in a hurry, so they paid for a pretty sizeable team of lawyers to just hang out and wait to see if they'd get their act together to deliver the documents for us to review. Often, we'd get paid to be there for 5 hours doing nothing and then told to come back the next day. And I also did other jobs that were basically 9-5 for 5 days like normal. That crazy hours with tons of work was a 1 time thing, not typical. But I made a lot of money in those 2-3 months.

The single most important trait people can possess is the ability to reassess and adjust their opinions/thoughts in response to new information, instead of stubbornly sticking to their position no matter what. Doubly so when authority is involved. Reinforcing this with children is more important than maintaining absolute authority. The only thing you're a parent teaches a kid by sticking to a punishment or edict which the parent wasn't fully informed about is that someone with authority cannot be wrong and should not be questioned.

The viewer tantrum story reminded me of my mom's favorite parenting story. When I was five and first went to kindergarten, apparently I watched a classmate throw a tantrum and get placated, so when I came home I decided to demand something and throw a tantrum when I was told no. But my version of a tantrum was to lay gently on the ground, rock side to side, and gingerly kinda-almost-not-really kick my feet and wave my fists around. My mom burst out laughing and after a minute I stopped, sat up, and started laughing too. Obviously I have no memory of this, but I fully believe it, I was super risk/pain averse as a kid. It also was the only temper tantrum I ever threw, according to Mom, so I guess laughing out loud at your kid can work. Lol!

Mountain Hardwear makes good UV clothing, along with other outdoor brands. It seems most are around $60-$80, so I have a feeling LTT’s options would be the same price. I don’t understand how there are so many cheap ~$20 options on Amazon. I have a feeling they’re lying about the specifications.

On the Nvidia thing - it's a behavioral economics trick - if you add an option that is far worse than the other options you offer, no one will pick it, but it makes the other options look better by comparison. They want people to think 'one day is expensive but look how cheap one month is!! What a great deal!'
@CanIHasThisName
@CanIHasThisName 7 месяцев назад
That works with things that are actually comparable. The cheap thing grabs attention and then there's a much nicer option for more money. 1 day vs whole month are not comparable. Nobody is going to be like "oh this one day thing is interesting". If it was 7-14 days, sure, but a single day for that much will not convince anyone that the whole month is somehow cheap. The most likely reason for this is that they intend to give out promo codes for a single day trial but they don't actually want anyone to spend money on it.

@@Gusto3791 Hi Gusto, by the looks of it the software is angled for medical uses. What I deal with is everything except people/animals. Medical uses relatively low doses of radiation (so people don’t get cancer), but have a feature resolution on the millimetre scale. For what I deal with, it’s on the single-hundred’s of micrometer scale, but is much higher dose (and can scan metals). The software we use at base is primarily ‘Volume Graphics’ (made in Germany, and is quite easier to use if you have any level of CAD experience). Free softwares for looking at CT do exist though- ‘Dragonfly’ is used quite a lot in universities.

Imagine you have turned your company's server off for maintenance (add some RAM, use canned air to clean some dust off, nothing major), and then you turn it on an NOTHING (not even a beep from speaker) happens for 5-10 minutes. To add to Yuzu situation. I think there is a good theory of why they went down so fast. When Tears of the Kingdom got leaked before it's release it wouldn't run on the regular Yuzu release, but would run on their "early access" Patreon version. So there was a period of time when it's not too difficult to prove that they were directly profiting off of piracy of Tears of the Kingdom, because the only way to play it was to get the pirated leak and pay for Yuzu's Patreon. We don't know how many people did, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that $2.4M that they are paying to Nintendo was mostly earned during that period of time. So this time around Nintendo actually had a case and they could easily prove that it was in Yuzu's interest to promote piracy.
@ZedDevStuff
@ZedDevStuff 7 месяцев назад
One small problem, the early access builds are not exclusive to their Patreon. The source is available all the time and you're allowed to distribute binaries as long as you don't make it paid. In fact all the guides about running ToTK gave a link to those free builds of the EA code

As a European/german, as soon as a service wants my credit card (or any payment information for that matter) for a free trial, the service is basically dead to me, with exceptions of services I really need/want/know what it's about and trust. Luckily, it is not very common. Probably mainly because credit cards are not something common to see, especially in the younger generations (at least in Germany). Something I've noticed with children through looking back on myself, watching my younger siblings with large age gaps, and working with kids in some volunteer work is that one of the worst things you can do is try and force them to do something. Forcing them to do things makes them not want to do those things even more, you need to make them feel like they should do these things, if they're old enough to understand more complex reasoning then treat them like an adult and give them a clear explanation on why they should be doing this.

1:30:37 This is why we stopped having employee and student parking, the state said that to have assigned parking would require each employee to pay property tax or some BS. But we didnt have assigned slots, just that classes are over here, and most of the administration is over here. All we had was a sing that said "employee parking" as a way to say "hey your event isnt back here, but you can park here if you want to access the administration" Basically nothing changed after taking those signs down except now when people come in for a one time event, having never been here before, they end up having to walk quite a way, or find a new spot after realizing they're at the wrong buildings

I do think its important to stress: parenting is NEVER one size fits all. What works amazing for one kid can genuinely be abusive to another. What parents say should generally be law -- but if those parents (intentionally or not) are making orders to the direct detriment of the child, that isnt okay.

Vevor is so weird. Here is a list of products from them I own: Induction cooktop, stove vent, kids swingset brackets, specialty plumbing tool, entry way shoe organizer. I must say though, everything so far has been outstanding in quality for the price. When a handyman dropped a hammer and shattered our first VEVOR cooktop, he was pretty unhappy because he thought it would cost him like 2k to replace it. Funny moment when I was like "Ha, nope $250 bucks." He was quite relieved. Ended up vastly improving my Homebrew setup with the internals of the broken one too because it was built so modular and was super simple to figure out how the control boards worked. And the frame on the underside is set aside to eventually build a sick desk PC.

Linus and "double-click parenting"; it was worth watching the whole show just for that part (and I very strongly agree with your parenting advices and vision, as a mother of a really heavily ADHD kid, that kind of parenting works much better than outdated "old school" ways). A lot of parents forget that kids are their own individual human being and that what they're doing is usually not for spite or to be naughty but just because it's part of their learning process and it's your job as a parent to just provide guidelines and boundaries and make sure that not only they get implemented but also respected and enforced. One thing I really like about watching your shows is you never know what way they'll be heading and we always get to learn something new as well as get a few laughs out of things. With all the problems LMG has on WAN show accessing stuff on external file hosts, why the HELL don't they set up an internal /dump/ folder on an internal fileserver and in there have a folder for each weeks live show episode with all the files easily accessable? Perfect for when you need to send random files to another computer or employee and it's too big for email.

As someone who mains fps games and basically nothing else. I just want to say while cheating will always being an ongoing issue i think Luke over exaggerates the issue greatly because his perspective is coming from mainly tarkov. The issue with tarkov is correlated directly to the dev teams complete disregard for its community and its wishes, as well as the nature of the camp in ridiculous hiding spot gameplay. He mentions "watch videos on it" and i have, I've seen the tarkov cheat video he referenced and I've watched many videos of "white knight" cheaters explaining the cheat "community" and while vanguard is not perfect what it does is reduces the level of cheating so low that it basically just makes the shitters that go through all the effort to cheat (instead of just getting good) brought up to the level of the average player base maybe slightly higher. While it's still cheating, and i hope they can find a way to resolve it. It really doesn't affect people much if at all and id argue things like streamers smurfing is more significant "cheating" then what is sustainable from actual cheaters. there is more room for other games to improve but kernel level anti cheat, especially with the active approach Riot takes against cheaters, is extremely effective and i will happily let ea, activision, or anyone else scrape my data if it means i never think "is he cheating" because its so few and far between it doesn't cross my mind. Which is the experience for 95% of valorant players and the other 5% are just puffing on the copium. PS. while i have played valorant, it is not my main game nor have i played it in some time. Im not some riot simp meat riding. Im just stating information ive gathered from actively being in the "fps community".

I seriously doubt Nintendo cares about going after individuals using it. If they use that data they will focus on data that can lead them to people acquiring and distributing titles before release. The fact that they targetted this one emulator and not the other Switch emulator or any other Nintendo emulator says that they were targetting Yuzu for specific reasons. And it seems likely to be a combination of monetization and their connection to games leaked before release dates. Keeping ones Yuzu from online access could be good if there is any sort of auto-update functionality they could use to nuke your install, though.

I tell them all the time, rewards are for good behavior - not for bad behavior. Parents must also show they can be wrong. Its upsetting to hear Luke say that invasive anti-cheats are the only way forward. There are already ways around kernel level anti-cheats, and even in Helldivers people are flying around the map spawning stuff in pugs. The ONLY way forward for anti-cheats is cleverness, as it is a cat and mouse game. The developers can squash one mouse, then they WILL adapt and find a new way to cheat. The cat then has to find a clever way to stomp the mouse that may deter other cheaters.

If there was, those scanners would be staffed 2 full shifts /4 short shifts per 24hrs and running scans back to back. ….. also, this doesn’t look at all like a medical grade CT scanner, so don’t worry, no harm done here

This Yuzu crap was bound to happen when emulator makers not only targeted CURRENT GEN consoles but also started CHARGING for the emulator access with patreons and such...
@AthanImmortal
@AthanImmortal 7 месяцев назад
@@washuaiyes but crucially that emulation court case was before things like the DMCA, there are lawyers who have commented on the emulation situation and said these are not iron clad defences like people think they are. We all need to stop parroting that one point and be concerned any time an emulator is in the legal headlights, and putting any kind of money into the equation moves you to the top of the list, it's dangerous.

Except this lawsuit also shut down Citra... which is an emulator for the 3ds which nintendo STOPPED SELLING GAMES FOR. They literally shut down their e-shop permanently.
@chao807
@chao807 7 месяцев назад
Just for accuracy's sake: Yuzu did NOT charge for emulator access. As a Patron you could get an auto installer for Yuzu Early Access. You have always been able to access the Early Access source code and compile it yourself for free. Just need to follow a guide and press a few buttons.

@@television9233 except Nintendo can reactivate that whenever they want. Just because they have officially shut it down does not mean it doesn’t have the potential for profit. So it is completely irrelevant if they are actively selling these things if they COULD be selling them.

I remember buying games that had ATi and nVidia sponsor screens saying "best played with" and no one has the attention span for gaming now days, we've gone from BG3 to Palworld to Helldivers 2 and now alot of people are jumping on Supermarket simulator, nVidia or AMD need to start chasing developers using UE5 to try and to push the limits of what games could be, we need more "can it run crysis" type of games.

You say you read a lot of comments, let's see. PLEASE stop eating and fidgeting on the show, it's getting annoying to have to skip ahead all the time. Watching this every week has been a weekly element for me for almost a decade, I absolutely hate to have to stop doing it or zipping through a bunch of topics. Drink a smoothie from your supplements sponsorship or something if you're incapable of going 3-4 hours without snacking, just PLEASE pick something less distracting than potato chips in a tinfoil bag.

About the Yuzu Discussion you brought up some good points. One major one for me is just the preservation of games and how a lot of the companies treat their old lineup. Emulators are great for preserving games aside from physical means.

3/5 of my recent played games are in early access. I would say the way developers interact with players whilst in early access and improve games on community feedback is helping games to become better at the moment.

My son, playing Helldivers the other day on his RTX 4070TI with an AIO-cooled I9 13900K and 64GB of DDR5 ended up tripping his UPS for current draw. This was the first time he's ever done that, and he's had that PC for close to a year now.

1day vs 1month price discussion. Irrational lowest price is there to push you to take next higher one. You will instinctively compare the two and conclude that second is a bargain, this is old business practice, it is structured around nobody taking 1day.

Linus - yes! (On parenting) - this is the way to do it. Good parenting is tough and there's no shortcuts (unfortunately!). Giving into kids is only harming them in the long run so stand your ground and they'll grow into great people that (if they choose too) will have their own kids and so it goes on. 👍👍
