Listen if I was one of the sailors after fighting this storm and then my captain went into the sky, came down with a bag, and said not to open it and we had clear travel for 9 freakin days!?! That damn bag is staying closed till I’m on land.
RIGHT?! I personally like the idea that the way Poseidon destroyed his fleet left him with only his mutineers left to rely on (since they were on his ship). So literally a couple dumbasses out of the 600 ruined it for everyone, got them killed, and will now proceed to be the pigs they are and cause Odysseus even more pain. He survived Poseidon’s wrath just to be stuck with chucklefucks.
I love the odyssey but I can’t remember if odysseus was not allowed to tell them what was in the bag also at least here they were tempted to open it instead of just think their captain was being greedy and not sharing some treasure he got I always hated that they did that. Also love that he immediately told them what was in it before the mystic whispering came into play.
@@user-bq6hr3nf5h Well, I like to think that even if Odysseus told them, for some of the crew it sounded like a blatant lie. "Yeah, sure, all of the winds in such a small bag? Why isn't it floating, huh?"
My favorite thing about this is that you'd think the men would be like "huh, things are going well ever since we got that bag...maybe we don't f*ck with it. I mean he doesn't even look happy to have it tbh", but instead its "What's in the bag? Bag? Bag? What's in the baaaaaag. Because treasure will TOTALLY do something for me stranded in the middle of the ocean."
There once was a Merchant of Baghdad whose servant came running into the house in great distress. 'Oh Master,' he said, 'I was in the market place today, and I saw a hooded figure. He turned and faced me, cried out and raised his hand and made a threatening gesture toward me, and I saw that it was Death himself come to claim me! Oh Master, what shall I do?' 'Take my horse and ride like the wind. Head for the city of Mosel, it is over 500 miles away, Death will never think to look for you there.' Replied the Merchant. Nodding gratefully, his servant left at once. Alone, the Merchant grew curious. Had his servant really seen Death in the market, or had he been mistaken, or did he lie to steal a horse? Determined to investigate, the Merchant made his way down to the market, and looked around. Spying a tall man in a dark hooded robe, he made his way over to him and boldly tapped him on the shoulder. The figure turned, to reveal the skull face of Death. MAY I HELP YOU? The Merchant gasped, 'You are Death?' I AM. 'Then please, tell me, earlier today when you saw my servant in the market, why did you make a threatening gesture at him?' IT WAS NOT A THREATENING GESTURE, BUT ONE OF SURPRISE. I WAS AMAZED TO SEE YOUR SERVANT TODAY IN BAGHDAD, FOR YOU SEE, I HAVE AN APPOINMENT WITH HIM THIS VERY NIGHT, OVER 500 MILES AWAY IN MOSEL.
I love how you captured Aeolus as cunning and yeah, playful. Their little clouds whispering to the crew to make them want to open the bag Them watching Odysseus closely knowing full well the crew mates will open the bag. Also, POSEIDON'S ENTRANCE? i love it sm this was amazing
@@SarahPontikis-tz6dw Aeolus is the wind, but given a physical body, basically. Specific winds like Zephyr and Boreas have also been on occasion able to do that, but Aeolus is the general concept of the wind in itself
Wow wow WOW DUDE!!! You captured this song PERFECTLY! Major props for the design of Aeolus, so unique and yet exactly what I imagined with an adorable carefree veneer and something malevolent lurking beneath. The designs of the mini wind spirits are also so freaking cute! AND PENELOPE IS SO PRETTY!!! The emotions were so visceral and beautiful portrayed as Odysseus was pleading and reaching for his family. So well done!
@@anniefemmas5097yeah! I personally don't really see aeolus as an evil force, just one who sees Odysseus and his soldiers as people to be played with. They don't matter enough to her to care, so she just wants to see what will happen
@@juliasings6131 That's right, he didn't even do anything really bad, he just played with them, if Odysseus's men had trusted him enough they would have arrived home. She gave him the instructions and told him "let's play a game" and that's what they did (for her of course) If they could have prevented the bag from opening they would have taken it home, they didn't. I'm going to say it but 50% of the problems would have been avoided if the crew hadn't been kind of stupid sometimes.
Aeolus design is literally gorgeous, i cant express how beautiful you made this entire animatic. I love the implication that Aeolus didn't just give Odysseus the sack out of the goodness of her heart, but because she wanted to enjoy watching him try to fulfill the condition. I love the look of predatory joy on her face as she watches Odysseus fail, to which she herself pushed his crew. Its not very often when people depict gods as mischivous, but it is actually how it was - Gods do not make contracts, they make toys.
0:39 I like to think when he says “I give the fire enough to stay burning” it foreshadows the future. When he says not to let the crew open the bag but he instigates the crew to do so. He’s fueling the fire of desire to open the bag to the point where he knows for a fact they will open it because of not only of their own curiosity but also because of the small whispers he sends them to keep them curious. EDIT: I did not know Aeolus was a man! I don’t know shit about mythology.
trueee!! also btw, even though Aeolus is depicted as a woman in this animation, he's actually a man both in mythology and the musical (just voiced by a woman) :]
@@alphalupy I was actually confused at first when listening to the song for the first time, because Aeolus is a man in myths, but I do like the idea that (s)he is a woman in the musical version as the gods can change their form into whatever they please. So it's not entirely inaccurate in comparison to the myths. But her voice is so perfect for this so I just might not care in that aspect.
@FumiKuroCh Oh I hadn't even thought of that!! Ig anything can be true... Personally tho I'm a sucker for male characters being voiced by women when the voice fits them (like for example it makes Aeolus sound more playful) so I think I'll go with that interpretation :3 (also HUGE Venti vibes)
@@alphalupy Venti is far more friendly than Aeolus, but also a massive drunkard lol. But yeah, to me if the character seems to be on the younger side, or doesn't have a deep voice it's just easier to get a woman to voice them given they can do a younger male voice that hasn't hit the deeper tones that some men get when they age.
Man, the gods really just loved screwing around with the mortals. Didn't really matter if they were ruthless and cold, or seemingly playful. Aeolus set him up for failure and just watched and waited for the inevitable. Even when it was opened she still said, "You weren't compliant!" knowing full well that he did everything he could do keep the bag open. But I love how Aeolus is shown here. Seemingly innocent at the start but having that almost sinister grin at 3:17
I remember a RU-vidr pointing out something the non religious often miss with Gods in religious stories. They’re not people, in modern stories we write gods as people but Gods are just the embodiment of concepts and so operate on that. What they are is the same as who they are. Zeus is a womanizing man and an absolute tyrant but he’s the God of Storms, Hospitality and Olympus. He brutally punishes those that break oaths or harm guests and makes new gods, Hera sticks with him because she’s motherhood and familial bonds. Aeolus is wind, fickle, mischievous but nonetheless dangerous. Gods in religion are just forces of nature given the ability to think. It’s in their nature to be a certain way.
Love how the wind god is colorful while everyone is muted and in grey scale except in the dream to show that they are not real and like they are above the world
2:38 shows how desperate he was to get back to his family…”I keep on trying to embrace you both why won’t you let me?!” He was sleeping, and all he could think about was hugging and being with his family but his sub conscious was doing everything it could to wake him up.
And he (basically) says "I swear I haven't changed" because he's seeing both of them "not letting him" embrace them. So his unconscious is concerned that they will see him as a monster after all of this is done.
@@aidenlosee right! It’s so beautifully written the fact that he believes they don’t want to embrace him because he’s changed whole time they just want him to stay awake and not fall into deep sleep so he doesn’t get lost in the storm is just mwah💋
I'm saying it now, that Aeolus design is my favourite so far. Her design is both beautifully stunning, unique and her expressions come off as both playful, flirtatious and a serious threat!! The animatic in itself has outstanding visuals with such a smooooooth art style. The sequences are amazing too such as Aeolus playfully messing with Odysseus to the more action packed and serious scenes of Ody and the Crew trying to stop the storm. I could keep going but you best know how amazing you are already 🤩
Airy playful and free. See ose three words? Thats how (s)he is supposed to be. But don't mistake her for kind, for you see,the wind is as rutheless as one thing could be.
1:01 i LOVE LOVE LOVE the silhouettes of the "friends" looking like theyre made of clouds because they were created by aeolus!! its such a cool detail!!!
The songs are just such bangers and go hard for no reason And you breathe even more emotion and life than was already present in the songs with your art and animatics.
Simply incredible. The goosebumps I got from Penelope telling Odysseus to just just keep his eyes open, and her panic when they started opening the bag was awesome. Very, very well done!
This looks wonderful! I love the designs for the wind goddess or god and her/his/their trouble makers. Odysseus is so tired of everybody's nonsense, and oh no at that ending. 1:42 that's a look! 2:55 got those designer eye bags 2:57 Not Ody trying to explain to Penelope how he hasn't changed 😢 3:05 well, great googly moogly ever just went into a downward spiral ( bless her, she tried) 3:27 excuse you, I FELL ASLEEP! 4:04 😮😭😣😱😱😱 Poseidon!
Aeolus looks so mischievous! And i love how the same clouds are used in the "friends close enemies closer" line. I never pictured it like that before, but now i sure do :D
1) The animatic is smooth and truly amazing 2) The effort and time to make this earns my respect 3) For some odd reason my sister thinks the very beginning of this song reminded her of the Boondocks intro Loved the vid :)
Aside from the cyclops basically all deaths were the fault of the crew. Like, in the myth they could already see Ithaca when they opened the bags like the fools they are
yeah, IT'S RIGHT THERE, JUST WAIT LIKE A FEW MORE DAYS, if you're that desperate. wait till you get home THEN open the bag. cause what would you lose? you're home now. treasure, NICE. not treasure, ah well. WE MADE IT HOME.
I gotta say the more I watch the enchanted music and reading the story it seems Odysseus had a lot of dimwitted crews that fell easily for dangers. From falling for the wind goddess tricks, eating foods from strange nymph to hunting a scared deer. Maybe I’m looking too deep into this
The way Odyssyus smiles thinking he is in the clear in the rain and all of a sudden it STOPS, and you hear Poseidon scream out his name and he appears. It's great! Such an underrated part I loved it.
You know, everyone depicts Aeolus as a woman, and I get that. Female actress and all. But I always envisioned it as a younger child-version of Aeolus. Sidenote, this is probably the most gorgeous full-versiom of this. I've been waiting for something like this for a while, and you did not disappoint. I especially love the emotion you put in the eyes.
Great job! I love the design of Aeolus and how you made their movement language fit the character so well! Also the dream secuanse of Penelope and the kid (I forgot his name) was amazing
"Huh, i like soldier, poet, king, i guess I'll take the quiz everybody talks about, but i don't really have an expectation for what i'd want to be." Gets soldier: "i have gained no greater insight than i had before"
One of the best animatics of Epic I've seen! The raw emotion in the expressions, the poses, the cameras angles... And so many good details! I particularly like Penelope trying to get Odysseus to stay awake.
DUDE! I love seeing everyone's interpretations of Epic the Musical! This is so cool! And love how Mischievous Aeolus is! Really captured the Gods from the Mythology Stories I've read!
I NEED A RUTHLESSNESS ANIMATIC NOW this animatic captured the song so well! (Please do a ruthlessness animatic I need to see it) You have amazing talent, and I absolutely love how you captured all the characters so perfectly! This is basically exactly what I was imagining while listening to this song, and it’s super cool! Can’t wait to see more of your animatics in the future!
This art is absolutely insane! you killed it with this one! the art for Aeolus is fantastic and fits the voice and style perfect, and i loved the scene of her flying above the ship with a smile just waiting. really props to you on this!
i am SCREAMING WITH PURE JOY!!! i habe been imagining f9r the past few days exactly this type of animation, and you've breathed my dreams into life!! their expressions, odysseus' pain and aeoles' unending smiles!! SPEAKING OF AEOLES!! oh my GOSH her design. oh my goddess. exactly how i pictured and EVEN BETTER!! the way SHE IS THE STORM YES YES YES, and her attitude!!! PERFECTION!!!!!
This appeared in my recomendations and is so fucking good. I love the design of Aeolus And when I saw the name of the channel I fucking froze, I was like Ximena Natzel? THE XIMENA NATZEL THAT DID THOSE TREE BROS VIDEOS AND THAT GHOST COMIC I WAS OBSESSED WITH? Is awesome to see how much you improved, the expressions, the perspective, everything is so much better
The way he looks and sounds so desperate when wanting to be with his family is heartbreaking. He takes so much pride in staying the same through all the crap. It's sas knowing what's coming next
You’re absolutely incredible!!!!! Amazing work! Like, I’m at a loss for words how much I loved it! I think my favorite part where she blew him a kiss sending the ships flying, it was a perfect touch!
This was SO WELL DONE!! I was waiting for a great animatic of this song to come along, since it’s one of my favorites. The character designs, the colors and the backgrounds are all fantastic
Bravo! I am pretty sure you are the very first one to fully animate this song. If not oh well but hey this is amazing and very well done! Once more, BRAVO!!
This video is just perfect. The whole vibe is so good. I was so intrigued and sat through that whole thing just like the first time. Like shook and positively excited and both scared xD the tension was grip able 😮❤❤ so thanks I’d love to see ruthlessness from you but no pressure, do what feels right for you❤❤❤❤ thanks for this masterpiece, defo gonna rewatch this one plenty
I keep coming back to this animatic. I just love the details, particularly in the expressions. Also I just love your interpretation of Aeolus. Everything feels so cinematic.
Lyrics: [ODYSSEUS] Great wind god, Aeolus I don't know if you know this But our path to home is blocked by an impenetrable storm I ask for your assistance So we at last can go the distance Can you cast the perfect winds for us and aid our journey home? [AEOLUS] Ha ha ha I am the wind, twisting and turning I give the fire enough to stay burning Let's play a game [ODYSSEUS] A game? [AEOLUS] That's what I'm serving And if you win, you will get what you're yearning [ODYSSEUS] Deal [AEOLUS] Take a look right here at this bag It has the winds of the storm all trapped All you gotta do is not open this bag [ODYSSEUS] Sounds too easy, what's the catch? [AEOLUS, WINIONS] Ha ha ha Keep your friends close and your enemiеs closer Never rеally know who you can trust If they wanna get the bag open, you gotta say "no, sir" Sometimes killing is a must [ODYSSEUS, spoken] What? [AEOLUS] 'Cause the end always justifies the means Friends turn into foes and rivalries So keep your friends close and your enemies closer Never really know who you can trust (Never really know who you can trust) [PERIMEDES] Captain, what's happening? [PERIMEDES & ELPENOR] What's trapped in that bag? [ODYSSEUS] Something dangerous, friends We mustn't lag [WINIONS, spoken] It's treasure! [ODYSSEUS, spoken] What? [WINIONS, spoken] Buh-bye! [PERIMEDES] Open the bag [ELPENOR] Let's see what you got [ODYSSEUS] No, do not Everybody listen closely See how this bag is closed? That's how it's supposed to be This bag has the storm inside We cannot let the treasure rumor fly [PERIMEDES & ELPENOR] We'll try [AEOLUS, CREW, WINIONS] Keep your friends close and your enemies closer Never really know who you can trust Never really know who you can trust Now they wanna get the bag open so they can have closure Sometimes sneaking is a must Sometimes sneaking is a must 'Cause the end always justifies the means Everything's changed since Polites, so Keep your friends close and your enemies closer Never really know who you can trust Never really know who you can trust [ODYSSEUS] For nine days, I've stayed wide awake Trying to make it home with no storm or tidal wave I remain unopposed, the bag is still closed And I'm getting closer to you [CREW] Penelope [ODYSSEUS] I can't wait to make some new memories [CREW] Telemachus [ODYSSEUS] Time for me to be the father I never was [PENELOPE & TELEMACHUS] Just keep your eyes open [ODYSSEUS] Why are my eyes and my heart and my soul so heavy? [PENELOPE & TELEMACHUS] Just keep your eyes open [ODYSSEUS] I keep on trying to embrace you both Why won't you let me? [PENELOPE & TELEMACHUS] Just keep your eyes open [ODYSSEUS] So much has changed but I'm the same Yes I'm the same [PENELOPE & TELEMACHUS] Just keep your eyes open [ENSEMBLE] Just keep your eyes open [PENELOPE, spoken] Wake up! Wake up, Odysseus, they're opening the bag Wake up! [ODYSSEUS] No! [AEOLUS, CREW, WINIONS] Keep your friends close and your enemies closer Never really know who you can trust Never really know who you can trust Storm Full speed ahead [ODYSSEUS] Where's the storm taking us? [AEOLUS] I said to keep the bag closed, but you weren't compliant If I had to guess? You're heading to the [AEOLUS & WINIONS] Land of the giants [CREW] Storm, storm [ODYSSEUS, spoken] Help me close the bag [EURYLOCHUS, spoken] But sir, it's too late [ODYSSEUS, spoken] We can save whatever wind is left to use another day Come on! [POSEIDON, spoken] Odysseus of Ithaca Do you know who I am?
