I am an old lady and I raised quail in my apartment, I had all the meat and eggs I could eat. Eventually though I had to move and sold everything but I may do it again. only hard thing was killing them, but cooking and eating was wonderful.
I am what I think may be "old" for this also. Lol😂😅 I just got 4 10 day Olds that my daughter hatched from her. I want them to be as tame as possible so they're veing handled alot an dressed inside for several months at least. We will play that by ear. Did you start another little flock? Of so, how's it going?
Great video. I really liked how you showed the cleaning of those large trays. The mudding tool “scraper” was a great time saving idea. Thank you. I’m building my first hutch this weekend.
This was great, I been tryin to find out about "types of quail" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the hard work. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
Idea to cut down on time when grabbing all the birds to move to pressure wash the cages: Add large doors on each side of each level. With the larger doors you can insert some type of square board about as big as the inside of the cage and have it screw onto a broom stick or metal paint roller pole to herd them all to the other door which can open to a three tier smaller cage that’s just big enough to temporarily hold them. It involves building another cage but I’m not sure how hard it is to grab each bird or if you see that as a good opportunity to look closer at each one for health, etc. Might not be worth the hassle but the thought just just came to me from watching you grab them and put them in the little transporter looking cages. Love the channel. Keep it up 👍🏼
Shalom! Thank you so much, I started watching your channel several years back and I am thankful for your inspiration and also your expertise, I now have 20 Corturnix from the Auction and 6 quails from a breeder of quail. Blessings to you and yours!
Many thanks, I've been looking for "quail flight pen size" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is an awesome one off product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin got cool results with it.
Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "raising coturnix quail for hunting" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got great success with it.
Love your videos and have learned alot from them . My Wife and I are getting are Quail this spring and looking forward to getting them . So for now this is a great educational opportunity . Thank you
Hey I have been watching your video for a while now thanks man I just started my quail small farm i is living in the Caribbean small island of st.maarten n.a
@@CoturnixCorner hey when ever you are coming to visit please gave me a call i pick you up and show you around the island #17215806336 that's my contact information it's also is my what's app number pls 👍
I've sure enjoyed watching your videos. I built a modified cage to match the size of bakery dough trays, but same design otherwise. I have 14 bobwhite quail in my grow out pen. - thanks for the great information.
as a well to do homeless guy with no significant other,no property, and no income to speak of, you have given me some hope to at least TRY to build a tiny homestead. I live in an rv trailer in my bros back yard and I am going to TRY to put a quail farm like you have in a harbor freight garage frame enclosure and have a geo dome green house attached to have a one man mini set up,,,THANX FOR THE INSPIRATION !!!
Terry, the thing to stress is how many birds you have and what set up is. Here in Missouri, like Chris, I have to contend with the weather for those birds kept in outside cages. The other issue for time is how many breeders you keep and if you have an excessive incubation schedule. If you set a couple of hatches a week you are in a near constant state of incubating, brooding and moving birds to grow out cages and culling and selecting future breeders.
Thanks again terry you have been a huge help to our quail journey one thing I do when I cant hose off my trays is I spray them with a bleach and water solution before spreading the wood shavings it really helps with the smell in the room to.
Very realistic time i like this Most homesteaders are just fictional trying to make it a 10 mns chore / day while if you apply this you'll notice it's not less Than an hour, very appreciated and practical demonstration yes keeping animals and birds even at minimal setup requires time.
Do you still have a favorable relationship with Hatch 😊 Thanks for all you good info here....just keeping 4 for now...breaking in a d then will decide ( I'm nearly 60 and 🤔still figuring it all out). I've gotten them from my daughter, who hatches a small amount of eggs for friends, etc.
Thank you for your videos. I wondered if you had suggestions for summertime flies pestering the birds. We clean daily, sprinkle diatomaceous earth around frames, fly ribbons, and use a water cup system, but this still doesn't seem to be enough. Thanks.
I’m sure you probably answered this question in one of your videos. They seem very thorough but I always wondered why you buy eggs online for hatching when your birds lay so many?
Looked at Hatch Poultry Farms because of your recommendation and BBB has HORRIBLE complaints on this hatchery. Anyone thinking about ordering might want to read the BBB complaints first.
Thank you ! I want to raise Quail first for my family 0f 3 , year round eggs and meat . Would love to also make enough to hobby supplement my income as I am retired . Can you do a video on what that would look like . Can quail eggs be sold from your home with a sign? I do Not plan on processing them for anyone else but just for my house . But as far eggs for sale ? For hatching or chicks for 4 h ? And if so what wound I charge . Any ideas along these lines would be great. Thanks again . Your a great teacher .
Hi Eric, thanks for the comment. Every state is different as far as egg sales and required wash and sanitize procedures, so you would have to check with your local authorities. Many states have a backyard poultry plan that allows for egg sales on a limited basis. I am getting $4 a dozen and sell out pretty much every week. I charge $1 per chick per week of age. So a two week old is $2 and a three week old is $3 up to $5 for adults. I plan on doing a video on this topic soon and maybe even cover it in one of our Live Streams.
Hi I couldn’t find your link to your sponsor but I think I found them. However I couldn’t get your discount code to work. Has it expired? Thanks. Questions: what varieties do you keep? Which are best for egg and/or meat. And recommend a stocking density per square foot. Thanks again from a new subscriber.
We are no longer affiliated with Hatch Poultry Farms. I keep Jumbo wilds, jumbo whites, scarlets, Scholfield silvers and Italians and golden manchurians.
Winner of a video, been searching for "raising quail with chickens" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my m8 got cool success with it.
Hi Terry Great presentation on how you're looking after birds. I am intrigued by the way you connected your water supply using those buckets, were they designed for that or you had to reinvent it. Thanks
It's a custom setup, pretty easy actually. I used a threaded union and coupling along with a couple garden hose washers and inserted them into a 1" hole drilled at the bottom side of the bucket. A little silicone to seal it.
Well, found your video researching quail. See you recommended Hatch Poultry Farms. So I looked them up, seems they consistently rip people off. Not sure if you want to keep promoting them.
I know this is an older comment but in case someone reads it… Coturnix Corner is no longer affiliated with them. It’s now mentioned in the information link under the video.
Do I need to have a dust bath in my pens? I lost most of my quail so I turned the last seven loose. I jumped a couple of them last week in the front yard while mowing.
Are you talking about Hatch Poultry Farms? If so, yes they do ship using the foam egg trays. It's pretty much the standard for shipping quail eggs. Thanks for asking
Sir do you still give fermented feed to your Quail? I really would like to know if it worth once I tried to fermented and it did not work coz got badly fungus coz I live in India humid and hot here ,Thank you and I am waiting for your reply
northern wisconsin hello ..of the quail channels i follow your's is the easiest to learn from . you think before you speak / presentation . Question ; i may be doing quail in the philippines , unsure if jumbo stock is available there . so - can i develop jumbo size fairly quickly by breeding only the largest birds / largest eggs ? thank you ..
Hello Charles, thanks for the kind words. And yes, you can develop your own strain of Jumbo coturnix by selectively breeding only the largest birds. Most people keep the birds that make 10 oz by 10 weeks of age for their breeding programs. Good luck with your quail!
Can you tell me the size of the gap to let eggs roll out? and what kind of an angle for the floor. I think many people could use this info. I would build similar cages.
Ron West He made a video on how to build the cages. There’s actually 2 videos, the first is how to build the cage, then he came back and added the roll out trays in the second video. Very informative!
I just want to let you know that the sponsor, hatch poultry Farms has provided me and it seems like many others with a horrible experience. They are stacking up bad review after bad review on both Instagram and BBB. They have also totally erased their Facebook page and redid their website for some reason. I'm very upset about it as are local to me and I was excited to have a hatchery that I can just go and pick things up from instead of worrying about birds and eggs coming in the mail. I have a friend down south who's been waiting over 5 months for some geese that she was told have been shipped twice. At this point I'm not sure I would give them another chance even if my product is top-notch.
Amanda, I apologize for your experience with Hatch Poultry and want to let you know we are no longer associated with them. We broke ties almost a year ago for the same reason.
It really depends on if you have a consistent market for the birds and egg sales. I know producers with a 1000 birds who make a decent living from their quail, I also know producers who are struggling with 5000. It's all in the market. Thanks for commenting!
