thanks for making this video, it’s such an under talked topic but an important one. i don’t have mice but instead a hamster so all mice and hamster owners should know about this
🐹 hamsters go into torpor if the room is too cold and you need to warm them up to bring them out of it. Other wise they 🎲 die. They get so cold 🥶 in torpor you don't know if they are dead or alive.
Last year the power went out in below 0 temperatures, they take a while to turn back the power here(as a child the same thing happened and it took them a week, I had to sleep by the wood fireplace with my mother and hamster) I moved all my girls into a carrier with food and water and actually moved them into my bed to put them under my covers so they could share my body heat, it took them two days to turn my power back on so we unfortunately had to do this for a little while as it was just to cold in all of my house not to(they were free roamed on the bed everyday but had to go back in the carrier I felt so bad), and my fire place is electric now days as well unfortunately :(
Hi Emi, I just wanted to thank you for making all these amazing and really helpful mouse videos! I'm getting mice in a few months and your videos are so entertaining and calming to watch and are helping me learn a lot about how to take care of mice. Thanks again!!
Hey emi! I have a video idea, I don't know if you have done this but maybe a night routine. Also I love how your putting your self out their to help animals.
My mice just went into Torpor and this video was extremely helpful. Before I even looked up the video I immediately started to warm them up and it was relieving to know that I took the right precautions and then continued to do other methods such as giving them the warm sugar water and feeding them, now they are doing better and moving around
i am getting a few females around january time and honestly your videos have been so useful and helpful! i binge them everyday and have learnt so much!
I just found my 2 female mice almost dead. I put them in a smaller bin, gave them water and watery fruits, and put a heater next to them. In about 20 minutes they were back to their happy selves. It was incredibly scary.
Hi Maisie there’s no such thing as a “starter pet” all pets are difficult to look after in their own way the first pet I had was a guinea pig however I didn’t do research on this and unfortunately didn’t end up looking after her very well.😥 if you want a mouse or 🐀 that’s great you’re already in the right place because you’re doing research on mice at the minute. all I say is just choose the one that you want the most and then research them extensively make sure you’ve got a good ethical breeder or that you’re adopting and just buy a correct size cage and wheel if that’s necessary in all of that and then just choose which ever one you feel the most you want to that’s all I can say there’s no such thing as a starter pet as I said However I would say that if you want to go into rats just to be aware that they do probably take more time out of the cage than hamsters and mice,I own rats and mice and I take my rats out of my out of their cage and for about four hours each each day and and they do need to go out for this long however with mice and hamsters they’re often more timid and scared and you will still have to take them out obviously for free roam for free roam they won’t need to go out as long as rats so just take this into consideration when choosing Sorry about any spelling or grammar mistakes I use the voice to text as I’m dyslexic and very slow at typing sorry☺️🍄
I agree with what everyone else says! There is no starter pet, I'd just get one based on how much room you have available - a single male mouse would take up the least room but I'd recommend doing research :)
Honestly, my opinion is that no rodent is a good starter pet. People say they are because they’re small and seemingly easy to take care of, but they actually require a lot of space as well as time and energy on your part to thrive. The exception might be guinea pigs, they’re quite simple and easy.
Hi, Im in desperate need of advice. I just got rats a few weeks ago and one of them bites, not hard to draw blood, but not just testing me out either. Also, they don;t want to be held or touched. Help! also, my cage really smells. what should I do?
Hello!💕 My mouse fig died recently, right after my other mouse died, his name was dude, he chewed out of his cage and my cat killed him, do you have any tips for grieving because I’ve been having a really hard time with their passing 😥
do mices have any reaction when we touch them or pet them in this time of year or they are just sleepy and lay all day because my mice doesn’t have any reaction. she’s not looking at me or raising her head up. nothing.
I JUST had my mouse Wheat do this. Did my nightly feed and check in. She didn't come out to greet me like normal. I immediately searched and found her very lethargic and cold. I put her in a fuzzy sock, laid in my bed with a heater on me, not her, and put her on my arm pit. Gave her some food, and she started eating. 15 minutes later, she was jumping and running around. I put her back in her tank with her cage mate and gave extra bedding, and put a ceramic heat lamp over the tank. Not hot, puts out enough heat to maybe melt a candy in 5 business days. Gonna buy a propane heater and a humidifier tomorrow. My room gets too cold for even me. Heating the whole house at night with central air is out of the wallet option, unfortunately.
Loved this video❣️👏 I wish money wasn't a issue (as in not ever having enough 😅) I just want to properly house all the critters. Give them the best life possible with extra lovin's of course 😉🥰 (lol)
currently my mice are on a wooden radiator cover, I was planning on moving them to a different spot during the winter because I thought they would get too hot with the it on, would it be ok for them to stay there?
Hi ! My mouse,Kiwi, has been bitting one of my other mice, and she started to bleed. I put all of my mice in a smaller bin, and they slept together. So, I thought Kiwi would bitting my other mouse, but she didn't stop. I was wondering if you had any suggestions to help them get along. Thanks :)
My mouse just passed away and I hope this wasn't what she was going through but she was sorta stiff when I found her and I tried to wake and warm her in my hands but she was very cold still after a half hour 😢.
This video was really helpful thank you 😊 also my mouse has been making chirping noises occasionally, normally just after she has woken up, does anyone know what this could be caused by? Thank you
Hey Emi!! I Love your videos Im getting my rats in 3 weeks and im prepping my cage at the moment. maybe you can do a video of reacting to your rat cage? I never miss a fresh post. keep up the good videos
Hello !😀 I’m a newbie to owning mice and not sure why one of my boys is sneezing very frequently… I use aspen bedding and his nose and eyes aren’t crusty or watery / runny He is eating ok but not super active Do you think he has a respiratory problem or he is allergic to dust in aspen?
It's possible it is a respiratory infection so your best bet is going to the vet. Have you checked out the vets in your area yet? Do you have a vet fund yet?
My mouse will burry himself in one of his little hides then drag his bedding and some insulating wool i’ve added in front of the door. do you think he’s warm enough? or should i put a towel on top of his tank at night. he has a 20 gallon with a mesh lid!
Hi Emi, this video is so helpful! I was wondering wether you knew of any mice breeders in/near Wales? One of my mice has sadly died and I need two new companions for my other mouse! I love your videos! Thanks :)
I don't own mice, I own rats, but I wanted to watch this anyway as I want to someday get mice, but hell I am so glad I did. One of my rats was sneezing, and I didn't know why. But now I do, so thanks! Is this bad, though, if they sneeze? I want to make sure I'm doing the best for my babies so I just want to make sure that sneezing isn't bad or something. thank you!
If your rats are recently-adopted babies, they tend to sneeze occasionally. Beyond this, any kind of sneezing is concerning (other than, say, a single sneeze after getting water up their nose). Also, rats' noses should be dry. If they sneeze out any amount of wetness, mine visit the vet. It's a sign of a mycoplasma flare and needs treated. Allergies *can* occur, but I never presume. The vet needs to decide. Don't worry that you're over-reacting. With rats, it's best to be a bit paranoid lol.
Anyone know some decent cages for $100-120? It would be for 2 boys that are a little over a year old, so pretty soon they’ll most likely start slowing down (maybe)…there in a huge cage rn but sadly they have to downgrade because the cage there in is basically permanently built into my room and removing it would destroy the wall😂we’re moving so theres nothing else I can do…I also live in the us so any websites based anywhere else will most likely have expensive shipping…
I guess it's the best place I could ask: What should I do with a mouse I have to catch in my old apartment during winter? My building is really old and I've seen a mouse two times this week (I also had bats last year, but that's another issue 😅) I'm kinda relieve that my landlord just told me to go get traps cause I could order humane non-kill traps. But what do I do with it after?! I'm in the middle of the city. I do have a park in from of my building, but it's still below zero celsius outside where I live. It's just gonna freeze to death, or go back to another building where someone might not be as kind with them as I'm trying to be. I know we shouldn't try to catch house mice to keep them as pet cause they're wild animals... But I really don't know what to do until it gets warmer. I'm thinking, maybe taking care of it in the best enclosure I can and then release it in the park when spring comes, I'm really not sure if it's a good idea. If some of you got tips it would really help me 🥰
Thank you for this video, Emi ♡ I do have something I would like your advice on. I'm anemic, so I'm always super cold no matter the temperature. How do you recommend I should keep an eye on my little Dante's enclosure temp?🙏🏻
hey! i need some help, im not going to be home for a week during december and im not sure they allow rodents on the plane, im worried my mouse is gonna run out of food or water or even get cold and pass away cause of it i need help no one i know can take care of her so she might have to stay home alone
She can’t stay home alone for more than overnight unfortunately, it’s animal cruelty. You’ll have to look for a pet sitter or boarding facility that could take your mouse for the week 🙂
⚠️IMPORTANT⚠️ For Emi Dear Emi, I have 3 mice in my room and i love to have my windows open, but even out side would be like 15°c or more, i close the window cause I don't want to kill none of them. Thanks for making this video i love your channel and your mice i hope you will reach to 1M some day and help alot of people with your channel.(your mice are Adorable😍😍😍🐀🐁)P.S. I'm a big fan and can you make a Christmas calendar where you put every day a photo of your mice ???? Please i would appreciate that a lot😊
Hi Emi! Would it be acceptable for my two male mice (who live separately) to have a "playdate"? I am worried because they are both in big tanks with lots of enrichment but still are showing signs of boredom. Neutering is not an option for me at the moment. I would let them meet each other in a neutral area and supervise them the whole time. They would not be living together. Thanks!
I really wouldn’t recommend it! Meeting unfamiliar males can be incredibly stressful (same as intros can be when in neutral space) and even if they didn’t attack each other during it they’d most likely be on edge the whole time rather than enjoying it the way we would if meeting up with a friend 🙂
Amazing video! Also I had a question, so my two one year old female rats are super stinky! We have tried literally everything! We soak there toys in 10 part water and 1 part bleach in the bathtub twice a month. And I go outside and scrub the cage with dawn dish soap, a sponge, and water. I’ve also just given them a bath because we don’t know what to do. Could you please help?! I really don’t wanna get rid of them because I love them but they just stink so darn much, I’ve watched so many videos and done so much research. I also quit using fleece and I use yesterday’s news cat litter in there litter box. Yes I use pee rocks. We were desperate and are using cedar bedding, I know it’s terrible but we had to.. My cage is 24"x16"x24"H. I use a vinegar water spray. And I just don’t know. I have a fan, humidifier, and an air purifier. And they are just so stinky. Like I cleaned the cage yesterday and it stinks so bad already. Could you please give me some tips? Thanks! ~Gabby!
Hmmm, do they have any plastic shelves in the cage? And do they tend to pee in their hammocks? I’m trying to think what could be causing the bulk of the smell Edit: I just read this back. It may be the side of the cage that’s an issue, although the bedding you’re using is absorbant they might be producing more waste than the cage can handle in between cage cleans, particularly if it’s not very deep and it’s soaking through a thin layer. A bigger cage with a deep base might help and mean you won’t have to clean them as often, cleaning once a week with smaller cages can often lead to them scent marking more!
Hi! Don't ever bathe them. Even if you're desperate, it will just make them smell worse. Try wiping them gently with baby wipes instead. You should also take them to the vet. Persistent smells like that can be a really bad sign, especially given their age.
OMG Em please help me! Due to the rain ants are infesting my house and now there all over my rats food even though there a lid on it. I don't know if the ants will hurt them or not but I need advise. Also my dad is thinking spraying the outside trim of the house with bug spray so they don't continue to invade, my rats live on the second floor of the house so I don't think it will hurt them or kill them but just to be sure I need your opinion. If you have any ideas on how I can get rid of the ants without poisoning my rats please be sure to tell me, thank you! (PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS
