Security plus cert cost like 350-400 buck in civilian world im pretty sure so what you should do if you are waiting to join instead is study a lot for it and ace practice tests but have the military pay for it for your actual test once you get to tech school
When I went through basic in the 70's I developed painful bursitis in both knees from so much marching. At sick call I was treated with cortisone shots under both knee caps - not pleasant, but it did the trick after a few days. Got a 5-day duty excuse - no marchig or standing, no PT and I missed the obstacle course twice. I picked up where I left off after day 5 and completed basic training without being held back.
I was thinking about AF and doing the same job also. I was told by others if I really want to get stationed in Japan "which I really want to be", is to do short tour/deployment in SK then I heard you get choice of duty station after. Plus SK also a bucketlist country for me also.
I was at Keesler around 6/81 to 2/82 to cross train into 2E2x1. My experience was different as I was an E-4 so I was housed in a BAQ style dorm. Just be on time to class and no one cared what I did on my off time. Spent Xmas./New years on base so I had to be available to serve as support for new Airman on "campus" who where not traveling anywhere. In other words, supervise work details to keep them occupied during the day. Biloxi was a nice place to spend the winter in.
I’m leaving to BMT in 2 1/2 Months at 22 years old, it’s been my Dream to become a Serviceman in the forces. I just got a call today from my recruiter. He told me my ship date and my job (Client Systems), I’m really freaked out about PT and everything leading up to Tech school. Thanks for the video, I hope to be successful!
On failing/ screwing around in Tech School... if you do not accomplish and graduate in your chosen job, they Air Force has two options... 1. Recycle you into a field of their choosing... which many times is Security Forces, to cook, or whatever crap job they have a need in, or Two. Discharge you.... "YOU" have no options, but OBEY. Dont like it? JOIN THE NAVY...
335th here. Was in from 04-08 and former black rope when I was at Keesler from Jan-Aug 05. Crazy how it’s still the same as it was then. Thank you for your service, brother.
Also, Biloxi has some crazy weather and the mornings sucked marching to class because I would get so sweaty. Did they still have the food trucks in the morning offering breakfast?
Yeah, pretty sure you were having "heart palpitations "in regards to the heart-beat/heart-stop issue (highly harmless and can be induced by anxiety or whatever unknown reason). This first happened to me when I was 18, and I was also placed on an EMT monitor. I'm now in my 20s and still get them every now and then- but not as bad compared to the past.
I've also been studying for the Security+ for quite some time and debating about enlisting in Cyber Systems Operations or Cyber Transport Systems. So, it's good to know that getting the Security+ beforehand can reduce time of being in tech school.
Yep, dont really get them anymore unless I am super stressed out or have caffeine. Also continue with Sec+, and even if you decide not to go in you have a very valuable certification
@@ethaninjapan Glad to know that your chest palpitations no longer occur as much. And definitely. I have the exam booked for Monday and hope that it goes well!
What would you say the courses were like for people who didn’t have previous tech experience or knowledge. I’m thinking of this job for the Air Force but I’ve never really known much about this type of information. Also when you say Sec+ before tech school do you mean try to get it while on civilian before enlistment? Last question can you go over what the blocks are and what they’re like?
At least you are still getting paid to learn. The guy that already has the certificate probably won't be vacationing but working at next base. Also, another airman said he failed so he got retrained into weather
"heart palpitations" not unusual... caffeine from coffee, tea, or coke... The change in coffee brand and strength in AF basic training probably more caffeine. < Most likely triggered yours... Sugar can also trigger your heart to do flips.
I am leaving in less than a month. 3D1X1. I have no IT background. Got a Sec+ book (GCGH) and read first few chapters. I am super worried about Sec+ exam. My question is how long the actual Client Systems training at Keesler and how do you prepare for the final Sec+ test in final 2 weeks phase? Thanks for the great video.
+FANBOY Lets' Plays Thank you for the reply. My clearance is still in progress. I am a Reserve. What about you and would you like to form a study group , if not yet cleared Sec+?
Hey Im going into cyber security I ship to bmt Tuesday I just wanted to know what you put on your dream sheet to get Korea I know I’m a few years late but I’d definitely like to know
I’m turning 17 this week and this is pretty much the job I want. Might be a dumb question but could you study for the security + job outside the AF and is there anything I could do to make sure I get the job I want
not much you can do aside from waiting for the job you want to open up. but you can get sec+ certified before joining and have a much easier time throughout it all
Security + is one of the biggest certifications you can get for I.T. and they provide that as long as you pass. Others that you want are ones I'm sure you can get online tests
I plan on going in after I graduate college. The job I want is an enlisted job and I was wondering if I would go in at a different rank. I'm not quite sure about becoming an officer right away. With that said I want to stay in as long as possible.
You need to pursue being an officer. If you already have a bachelor's you can just go to OTS. Lots of people think going enlisted after college is better but if you plan on staying in you should be an officer. More pay/better jobs and job security.
Also it's not a guarantee that you will be able to "transition" to an officer once enlisted. They only accept a certain number of people for the transition program.
How does Prior service or cross train does in TS? I mean where do they stay? Do they need to march? I used to remember someone cross training from other afsc lived in Hotels, separate with regulars and they can drove their car? Anybody have any updates about this?
I got the same job and I was wondering how easy it would be to cross train into a higher level IT job like cyber surety/operations after your enlistment?(mine is 4 years)
I’m interested in joining and going to Keesler, but would I have to wait until next year to go if it’s already in session (like college classes and having to wait until next quarter if it’s already in session)
Think of blocks like sections. A block is about a different topic of your job, and that length can vary from 5 days to about 2 weeks. My first job in tech school was airfield systems at keesler, so I had 5 blocks at one school (Dolan Hall) and then 12 blocks at another (Jones Hall). I'm out the service now after about 8 years. Best of luck!
Did you pick oversees ??? Also for finance comptroller which tech school is in keesler ...they can be stationed anywhere are we allowed to not request oversees?
Can you go to tech school with a misdemeanor for Poss. Of marijuana? I got a coding certificate after grad. Hs and I want to pursue something along those lines. I was just wondering if I could still get a security clearance or get ANY job in tech school through the air force ? Thanks
If you're serious about joining, you can always talk to a recruiter and sort it out. I've seen people with worse in the AF. If you want to do something with coding however, I don't recommend joining.
I am going for Client Systems. My BMT is in two months. How can I prepare for Security+ in advance? Do you have any suggestion how one can prepare for the Client Systems?
Im thinking about going into the airforce to study computer programming and cyber security. Is it first timer friendly??? I want to get into the field but not alot of computer programming experience? Is it slow paced or is it for computer nerds ONLY?
