Keith Richards talks with Bob Harris ('Whispering Bob') on the Old Grey Whistle Test Show in 1974, just weeks before the release of The Rolling Stones album It's Only Rock 'n Roll.
Yes it is like that, "an asthmatic appreciation society" you gotta love Keith though, miracle he's still with us. Saw him and Ron December 21st 1974 at the Gaumont State Theatre London with Rod Stewart guesting price £1- 50. ( Today you wouldn't get a coffee for that😅😅)☘️
This is the original Keith. He was replaced with the thing we see today right before the "Some Girls " album, I believe. That's why they kept the camera off the replacement in the earliest videos of him, and we eventually accepted the fake as the real one.
it saddens me that i will never meet Keith. I just want to give him a hug and tell him how much he has inspired me. What i would do to go back in time and party with him! Love ya keef
Keith... The archetypical rock 'n roll junkie. His wasted heroin look is just iconic, he basically invented it. Unforgettable seventies. Sex, drugs & rock 'n roll. He did it, he was there, he wrote the book. What a guy.
@@admiralbenbow5083 I actually listen to this interview on repeat to fall asleep sometimes. Seriosuly great asmr voices right there! I'd listen to whispering Bob more but all his other guests talk too loud for that :D
So we’re all of us who were there. He’s a survivor. And a lot more together than he lets on. He’s pleasantly cruising on a high he for sure. The man is never stressed he seems happy he can use his brain that’s why he’s still around. It’s hard to find a picture of Keith when he’s angry. He’s Zen
July 1974: "It was a live TV programme. His eyes went up in his head and it was pretty obvious, but it was incredible. He just didn't give a shit. He really wanted people to know." - Nick Kent (quoted in Keith Richards: The Biography by Victor Bockris)
Yeah, it's great that he is so chilled and coherent.......these modern day drug users could learn a lesson from this chap in ettiquete and behaving properley !!
Keith here looks so sweet with lovely skin and a gentle voice. Now in present day he may appear as a weathered gentleman with lots of tales to tell. But his accomplishments are so amazing. He has a marriage that has far surpassed most. Keith will outlive many of us. Keith, we love you for your incredible musical talent, your humorous wit and your ability to say "F you" to anyone who doubts. you.
Bob Harris probably would've been a successful therapist as well, the way he's putting his guests at ease. Almost in a fatherly, concerned way he's pointing at the enormous venues The Stones are playing at.
andzwe Thats what I was just thinking! "Keith, these are enormous venues, are you sure you are going to be ok? Do you need me to get you some vitamins? Make sure you stay hydrated" bless him. Ol father Bob.
I used to watch Old Grey Whistle every week and Bob was a gent, asked a guest a question then let the person answer without interrupting ( it's a lost art ) totally agree with you andzwe
Bob was great with guests he respected them as artists and didn’t care about the packaging. Unlike many ‘unhip’ interviewers who just asked stupid questions about their looks or questionable lifestyles. Bob treated them like human beings not animals in a zoo.
Looking at his older videos now that he's in the 60s 70s he definitely fixed his teeth but I always thought he's the cutest of The Rolling Stones as he was young he has so much charisma.
Probably the only one who talked as quiet as Bob Harris. And god, Keith was the definition of "elegantly wasted". And as a straight male, i do have to admit he had a gorgeous face.
If Keith ever decides to pass, MILLIONS, for the rest of their lives, will remember where they were upon hearing the news. An original, if ever there was one.
Would be pretty ironic considering that he considered the whole drama after Princess Dians's death ridiculous. He doesn't think the public should be that involved in celebrities lives because they do not know them and they are just normal people too. He had a whole bitchfight with Elton John about him "writing songs for dead blondes now". To him this kind of admiration is too close to the blind, unreasonable adoration British people have for the royal family which is an institution he absolutely abhors ("I would not let anyone fro mthat family touch me with a stick, never mind a sword!" when he refused being knighted too).
@@karkoskirachel5438 Damn RightYHE SEVENTIES WAS THE MAGIC DECADE, OH What MEMORIES l have,Such a wonderful world, and THE ROLLING STONES WERE THERE,AND EVERYTHING WAS GREAT.! WALTER B,MEMPHIS.
Richards was terrified of dentists thanks to always being taken to a 'dentist' that janked out hurting babyteeth because it payed better than treating them properly when he was a kid. That combined with bad dental hygiene routines caused by being distracted by drugs led to that.
Keith Richards is proof that all other people over indulgence in drugs killed them, he said in an interview that he never acted like a pig with dope , he said he just done enough to get high and he would then move on, yes , there's eve a correct way to do drugs if that your choice, he nowadays says that drugs are a waste of time , I won't know how to act when he passes away if I'm alive when that day comes, I'm 57 and been a fan since a young teenager
I love Kieth Richards. Back in the day some said he went to Switzerland to get a blood transfusion to kick heroin. Nah. He got his teefer’s fixed. Long live Kieth.
He might be drugged out, but definitely not blotto. Very intelligent guy and I love how genuine and just plain real he was being in this interview. Legends never die
michelle Welsh it's cannon that Keith was the inspiration for murdoc but I did wonder if blurs bass player was part of the inspiration cause they do look similar 🤔
Back in the late 1960s hipsters started talking in a rather affected manner that could best be described as fey . Bob and Keith provide us with a perfect example of this strange phenomena .
Andy McCoy watched this as a reverse PSA! The originator...Keef! Love Bob's attention to the production and asides of the Stones...Keef,Bob,and OGWT crew all went back to the baby nursery/ library after the interview!
Keith always makes sense talking about music, guitar play, gigs and touring under all circumstances. But don't bother him with silly questions about his hair, clothes, generation gaps or when he's expecting to die. The last years he seems to have extended his repertoire with e.g. growing lemons, his family life and his father. Interesting, though very private person.

Such a sincere musician. And, a workaholic, btw. That comment about, "Ronnie Wood called me up and I wasn't doing anything ..." Right! I'll bet not doing anything was driving Keith nuts.
Of course is he high from H and totally relaxed. He is really in heaven there and his H time was from 1968-1978.Who read his books?Sorry for my worst english.Greetings from Germany.
@Salam Damai and Peace to All Great,I read his book LIFE too and I also enjoiyed to read from Keith Richards again, because in the 90s I read a book from Keith Richards too.Anita was very selfish when they were together and and and...
Jeez. Look at his eyes. Keef is off his knockers. And 50 bleeding years later, still performing. Very well actually. Saw them in 82 and we all thought, how long .?..Actually, on that tour he looked pretty good.. Here...just in his own heroin comfort blanket
Yeah, it's really interesting. He has such an appreciation for Ronnie and you can tell he vibed with him much more than with Mick Taylor or Brian Jones. Their work together in the First Barbarians was lovely!
