Aaaaaaand suddenly I'm back to the summer of 2000, living in my first flat in London in Notting Hill, listening to Kelis on repeat and walking around Portobello Market every day.
This is my all time favorite kelis song and video. It reminds me of "the nightmare before Christmas". Kelis was always ahead of her time. I wonder why she departed ways with the Neptune's. They made some good music.
I swear, the background is always reminding me of Nightmare Before Christmas. Especially with the gate at the near end. That reminds me of the graveyard with the hill.
I feel like if Missy Elliot would have made this video/song it would have gotten more play around the time it came out. I really like this song/video, I never understood why it didn't get played much. Here I am in 2015 still watching it !
The era of video clips is nostalgic, I remember waking up on a Sunday morning to bacon, eggs, and spaghetti while these kinds of songs were being played on nztv "greatest hits" or "coca cola countdown " miss being a kid.. life was simpler
It kills me to think about how underrated this song is. Amazing sound and video. I love how it looks like The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of my favorite movies). This song is pure gold.
Mannn this takes me back to having random days off from school and literally watching BET ALL DAY (Back when they used to play music videos)! Cita's World, Hits From the Street, etc. This video was one of those ones you could never forget because it was set so far apart from everything else out at the time. Yes Kelis!!!
i remember i would turn it up everytime it came on (back when i watched videos)...this came on every now and then...wasn't heavy rotation but i got excited every time i saw it!
holy crap. Why isnt she doing these kinds of videos anymore? This is artistry. The concept, symbolism and the tim burtonesque feeling of this video is absolutely stunning.
Heard this for the first time in some time the other day and so many memories came back. Kelis will always be a favorite of mine. She's such an old ball, quirky artist and I love her for it.
Love the Art direction and very concept of the video.Kelis is a very talented and brilliant artist who defys the norm. Yes a big fan of the Nightmare before Christmas so that made me like this video double. Beautiful Song :-)
This is a real good song and a ill beat. If somebody like Rhianna makes a song like this today it would be big. I don't understand how things work in the industry but Kelis has a wonderful voice and this. Is a great song. It never gets old. Just great.
10 years have passed since this was released in 2000, I remember like it was yesterday, MTV playing this and being totally mesmerized by the video and the song too
This is one if my favorite songs by Kelis and my favorite music video by her. I love the creativity. The music video has an Alice In Wonderland meets Nightmare Before Christmas feel, which is really great.
***** Yeah after Aaliyah did the black>fuschia version in "Try Again". I love Bey, but she is copycat. She admitted it herself in one of her documentaries!
***** Also, I'm not trying to be argumentative but Bey's pink ombre has nothing to do with the fact that Kelis rocked GREEN/BLONDE first and then Bey did the same GREEN/BLONDE in her vid.
@Domonique oh I definitely wasn't saying that Bey did anything first, I was just saying that Super Power wasn't the first video she did the ombré hair, it was back in Bootylicious. There's nothing new under the sun but Kelis is definitely an innovator.
Its 2024 and this music still gives me goosebumps. I just watched a clip about her on Karine Alourde channel, i just had to come and watch this video. My favourite of all her songs. So sad she never got the accolades she deserves in the industry, such a legend she is.
This video is still epic to me. Her voice is everything. I believe she was very underrated. Either the people that later produced her were bogus or it just was no chemistry musically.
Wow. I didn't know this version or this video existed. The I thought Kelis - Get Along With You (David Morales Mix Edit) house version was the original. Opps LOL. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hLWscfPeD8g.html
Kelis, THIS was when I loved you! I HATE the way big music business will transform such a talented, creative, totally unlike anyone else artist and mold her into what is "popular" so that she's no longer distinguishable or set apart from anyone else. There was nothing like this Kaliedescope album. PLEASE come back to this vibe!!!
Whenever I used to see this video as a kid, I used to be confused when she was taking herself apart, but when I got older, I realized she was heartbroken. Idk. I still love Kelis, but she lost her sound that was kinda futuristic and I miss it alot.
Rica G Sorta. I read the plot was that she was heartbroken after she felt like she could open up herself for the one she loved. (which explains when she opens the door where her heart is.) The plot's cheesy, but at least they went for that Tim Burton look.
Very late reply, but basically she's committing suicide, or just dying. She sings about all the material things not mattering any more, that includes her body. The little poem at the end confirms that. Sorry for ruining your day with that depressing thought 😝
This song is really addictive! Good job, Pharrell Williams and Kelis!!! Love you both!!! That music with those vocals, just purrrfect! I know the lyrics are very sad, but I love everything and everyone that is emotional! Everything else is fake, cause we all are human! But that’s just my opinion... But please don‘t kill yourself!! And to my Internet bullies: No I don’t have OCD or depression or any other mental illness, just because I like songs like this one! I decide what I like, who I like, what I do and what I don’t do!!! And no, I‘m not a liar and not healthy!!!
