Trust me you want to use the guy lines , i have this tent you need them for stability and air flow, i love this tent , im currently using this on the Appalachian trail right now ! I'm actually 6 miles from Penn Mar Pennsylvania ,been using this for 9 weeks now and its excellent in downpours, high winds etc. You definitely wont have any issues being wet , even without using a ground cloth ,but i highly recommend that you guy out the sides as well to stop condensation.
