What a surprise! The prison population has been deliberately reduced and violent crime has correspondingly increased. He worries more about prisoners having beds than public safety. He isn't fit to be a Minister!

yes I totally agree im a far north resident and these offenders are also double dipping in rental properties living with whatever whanau they can double dip off the rental properties they can use there family for and they tend to hide out in isolated communities like the far north I have seen a lot of unsavoury characters the police need to wake up and stop day dreaming its very concerning for all communities

Kelvin, you can’t continually claim the separation of powers when the government is the one that makes the legislation for the courts. It’s not an equal footing. Your party with its majority rule have had the opportunity to create the laws which the courts decide whether the perpetrator has met your thresholds.

if there was an issue of privatizing away responsibilities! How about have community groups caring for children removing responsibilities away from oranga tamariki?. Doing this is a big stuff up this model was moved away from years ago due to the abuse that was going on in these community groups, And when it was move away from there was the view the children who came into needing the care will be protected by the highest from of protect there is available the LAW. However the law does not get followed now as there is no accountability for someone breaching the laws.

@@libgapper9761 I know it's hard to believe considering news reports but crime numbers are actually down. The point is the hypocrisy. If rich white boys commit criminal acts of violence on sleeping children there's absolutely no news or legal consequences. The system is OFF. It needs to be reset. There are people who will get sent to Jail over crimes with no proof. Per say someones girl friend tells police they were abused by there partner. And there is no marks and no witness. And the Guy says no she is lying. He will still get arrested. put on bail take up court time putting presser on courts and in most case will go to jail. ( And there are people who will get home detention where there is proof of serious violent crime.) And it not a overnight fix

Hats off to Jack for his top-tier interview skills, making this one a step above the Reti chat! Let's appreciate Kelvin Davis' measured approach here, he's aiming to reduce prison populations - good on ya, Kelvin. But it seems we're strapping electronic monitors onto the wrong folks, the unstable and violent ones. The victims also appear to be forgotten, left in limbo while the courts play catch-up. And in the waiting, people are either slipping deeper into crime or buckling under stress - no win there. Jack's spot on, the surge in violent crime and the clear mental health issues, as seen in the recent shooting, are alarming. More focus on mental health could be a game-changer. It's encouraging to see Kelvin discontent with the pace of change. But buddy, it's time to cut through the red tape and be the catalyst! And let's not forget about the pressing issue of gangs in jails, creating more crime behind bars. Kelvin, let's start de-patching, separating, and cracking down on them. And don't even get me started on Oranga Tamariki. It's high time for some spring cleaning, Kelvin, and we're not just talking about dust bunnies. 🧹 #PushForChange

getting views over tiktok or social media and the need to go viral on social media seems to be just as addictive as drugs and more of a driver than the crime itself. This has been seen in most other places in the world.
