Killer tone! I have had my kemper for a year and it's a game changer in managing all of my fav amps and accelerating creativity. Can't wait for the foot switch!
awesome.. not sure if i missed it but do you use a cab for it live or in the studio.. im trying to figure out which cab to get.. thanks and awesome playing
About 90% of my use for it has been in the studio where I run it direct into a preamp. I've run it through a couple speakers cabs before, but they def color the sound. I do believe they make a speaker with a more linear response that is better for it though.
Tyler Cain hey just listening to you play and the great tone has convinced me to get a Kemper - would you share this or any other profiles to David.johnson09@yahoo.com great playing man...
Hey Tyler! Great video, just bought the Kemper myself and I LOOOVVEEE it ;-) A Little off-topic maybe, but can you tell me the Brand + model of the optics you're wearing? Been looking for a pair like yours for a while without any luck. Merry Christmas from Denmark. Regards Rune.
Hi, Does the Kemper come with stock 'go-to' profiles out of the box or do you have to create your own? Also wondering if there is a source of profiles that can be downloaded? Cheers and nice demo.
+Steve Tucker It comes pre-loaded with a bunch of profiles and you can get more online from the kemper forums and specialist sites alike (See Pete Thorn's "To Live and Die in Nashville" video on RU-vid to see what I mean). Some are free, some need to be paid for.
For my money it depends on your current setup. If you already have a nice tube amp (or a few nice amps), the sound and warmth of them really can't be beaten, and you'd be better served to get something like a two-notes torpedo live reactive loadbox to take the place of your speaker for silent monitoring/recording. That being said, if you don't have any high end amplifier that you want to use then you can do a heck of a lot worse than the Kemper for silent playing and recording. Nothing compares to real tube amps played nice and loud, but sadly in apartments and anywhere with neighbours even an AC15 or Swart AST (my personal favourite small amp) can cause you some hassle. In short, it's not going to beat the sound of a real tube amp IMO, and it won't react quite as well to your favourite pedals (although it does an ok job and depends on the profile), but in a mix with a bit of processing, no-one will notice the difference and what's more, you can record/jam at 3am worry-free. It'll take you a little while to find some profiles that you really like though, and don't be afraid to tweak them a little with the EQ (increasing the volume control (not master) and the mix on the reverb gets a much bigger and more harmonically rich sound too). As always, try to test one out before purchasing though. Hope that helps!
Ace stuff just debating to get rid of my mark V n buy one for my studio.. My big concern is it not feeling like a valve amp to play... your thoughts are appreciated!
Hi Jie, in this video, both the Kemper and the mic on the guitar can had the same signal chain. They each went into a Vintech preamp (with no eq) and then an Apogee interface.
+Tyler Cain And is there any particular reason why it is not straight into the apogee interface but into a preamp first? Are there any sound differences?
Jie Yuan I like the sound of the Vintech preamps a lot. I bypassed the eq on both channels for this video to really compare the Kemper verse the miked amp.
Hey Tyler, and chance you could share that Marshall profile in the beginning or are you interested in selling? I love your tones, would be more than happy to for them!
truckguy3 that jtm45 sounds great and I'm not even into that. I'm into higher gain but he has it sounding great. Plus, he's a great guitarist. I did download that preset when I had my kemper.
Ps I feel like I do like my amps and distortion pedals better but if the Kemper doesn't feel right or sound right when I play lead especially it's most likely my fault. Due to there being so many settings that I haven't even gotten to yet. Ex deep editing.
+coffeewaldo It's all about how it feels to ya! I don't think there's a definite right or wrong answer. There are definitely a lot of options on the Kemper though eh
