That’s how it appears but, I gather it’s US who go thru’ a process of change: I started off with Radio 1 but now, at 58, I’m pretty much at Radio 4. I remember Terry Wogan reading out a question he’d received, on his morning show, asking (hugely paraphrased) “at what age does one become a crusty old fart” to which Terry replied “at about the age you start to listen to this show & decide to write in”. If that wasn’t well explained, it was rather like the time I was asked by a very nice, happily married, Cambridge educated mate of mine “at what age do you become a dirty old man?” … to which I replied “at about the age you ask that question”.

This was great fun, excellent interview. I've listen to Ken for decades and always loved the banter between Ken and Terry. Was forlorn when I heard he was leaving R2 but then elated when I heard he would have almost the same slot but on Greatest Hits where the music is so much better. Ironically, R2 started playing more oldies tracks after Ken left, mmm! So glad Ken got one over on R2 with his Trademarked Popmaster.

Well, he was canny but only because the BBC were stupid. He offered it to them and told them they should trademark it so nobody could copy it. They thought nobody would be interested enough to nick it, so he trademarked it himself to protect it. Turned out well for him in the end!😂

While watching this I suddenly remembered the first time I saw and heard Ken interact with Terry on air - I think it may have been the very first time they actually"met' on air .... a live Children in Need broadcast ( I think). Ken was a DJ with BBC Radio Scotland and therefore completely unknown to the majority of viewers while Terry was the long established star on BBC national radio and TV hosting the live show. At one point the show cut to a studio in Glasgow where for a minute or so a bearded and not yet bald Ken Bruce joked with Terry about the latter's sartorial style while Terry called Ken a " bearded wonder". It was all good natured and for me became a curious pre echo of the 000s of times listeners would hear Terry hand over to Ken at 09.30 on weekdays on BBC Radio 2.

I feel Ken was pushed out by the BBC - Ken isn't stupid, he knew the change in attitude at Radio 2, with them keen on getting younger presenters and not understanding their key listener demographic anymore it seems, and Ken knew he would be axed sooner rather than later, just look at how after he announced he planned to leave, that Radio 2 sped up his departure time.
