By 1894, when the DEMOCRATIC Party in the South returned to power, restrictions were reimposed. ( Jim Crow Laws started) A major concern was how to draw the line between black and white in a society in which white men had many children with enslaved black women. On the one hand, a person's reputation as black or white was usually decisive in practical matters. On the other hand, most laws used a "one drop of blood" rule, which meant that one black ancestor made a person black in the view of the law. In 1967, 16 states still retained anti-miscegenation laws, mainly in the American South. Judge who sentenced them Leon M. Bazile. ( a known democrat) In 1935 Bazile won election as a Democrat to represent Hanover and King William counties in the House of Delegates. This is who sentenced the couple Loving vs. The State of Virginia and represented one of the most talked about cases in the US> This is what democrats want to keep pushing on Trump and conservatives, but we know it ISN'T TRUE... They are just trying to hide their racism and remove it from history.

The OP is simply not true. Calling a slave a slave does not dehumanize the person; being a slave does that. Trying to redefine slaves and slavery with different terms that are easier on modern ears and sensibilities is just revisionist, SJW garbage. It follows the pattern of just altering terms and adding adjectives to make ugly and uncomfortable things more polite and easy to talk about. Some things should stay ugly and uncomfortable to talk about. Some things should always leave a wound inside when they are discussed and investigated. To make slavery and the plight that slaves suffered through something that doesn't make your soul crawl, ruin dinner to speak about and may make your overly woke, SJW, NPR friends pat you on the back for your wokeness but it dishonors and cheapens what the slaves went through.

Book by Cameron McWhirter "Red Summer" The Summer Of 1919 and The Awakening Of Black America McWhirter details spontaneous white mob antiblack violence during what James Weldon Johnson called "the Red Summer," a lengthy season colored crimson by blood, which characterized the U.S. aftermath of World War I, filled with change and tensions. In addition to well-documented incidents in Chicago and Washington, DC, McWhirter explores the violent actions in cities such as Charleston, Knoxville, and Omaha and smaller communities like Carswell Grove. Elaine, Arkansas white mob murders of Blacks, and 1920 Duluth, Minn lynching of 3 Black circus workers falsely accused of rape by a white teen girl. 1921 another case of false accusation created the burning of Greenwood District of Tulsa, OK that Booker T. Washington noted as "Negro Wall Street" for it being a boomtown for Blacks still dealing with segregation.

@William L Frankly speaking, the majority of our history IS shameful. We should be ashamed of slavery. We should be ashamed of imperialism. We should be ashamed of genocide. We should be ashamed of Jim Crow laws, the war on drugs, systemic racism in law enforcement, and mass incarceration. We can't ignore it, we can't hide it, and we can't rewrite history. We need to actually listen for once and learn from it. We need to do better. As a straight, white, cis American male, I'm not ashamed of myself. Argument by analogy: why do so many folks keep particular objects from their past, as they walk through the present and into the future? Why is it a matter of last resort for Social Workers to remove children (permanently) from their parents? If you stop and think about it, your average person spends more time in the past, and just a bit less in the future, than they do in the present - the only time we really have any control over? To remove the past is to have the ground moved out from under your feet - falling!

The State of Virginia and represented one of the most talked about cases in the US. This is what democrats want to keep pushing on Trump and conservatives, but we know it ISN'T TRUE... They are just trying to hide their racism and remove it from history.

I wouldn't even say they should come down because the South fought for states' rights and anti-FED. If that's the argument regular/non-racist Americans may disagree with them coming down because it is "our History"! The debate for why they should come down (Statues/Flags) should ONLY be about the fact that organized racist groups praise them for wanting to keep slavery and use them as a way to justify their presence in America today. Generally I refrain from requiring a degree to be a historian even though I have 2. Burns while a very talented filmmaker takes a lot of liberties in his presentation of "history " in his films, while entertaining they are rife with exaggerations misleading themes and in some cases false statements. Often times in an attempt to sensationalize the event. Let me be very clear the civil war should not be glorified, whe it shaped the nation as we know it today and is probably the most impactful moment in our history. But it was also our greatest tragedy, an entire generation of young men were snuffed out because the American experiment failed. In his film another non historian Shelby Foote mentions a very important detail. Before the war when referring to the US one would say that the United States are. After it became the unitec States is....that may not seem like much but it us extremely important to understand that simple detail if one is to understand the nstion today. It is sad to see the country making the same mistakes, that war was the result of 2 sections of the country becoming so different and not just because of slavery, but so different that they could no longer live as 1. And now what do we see? The nation is polarizing again due to these riged dichotomies of right and wrong. Hopefully we don't get the same result.

Ken Burns is perpetuating here the false narrative that all these protests are just about George Floyd, BLM. and racial discrimination. As a 70 year old White American, I've never seen White America care much about Black issues beyond just talking about them, and I still don't. All those White Americans aren't on the streets for BLM. They are protesting how the Govt has screwed THEM Over too, starting at least since Clinton let the good paying manufacturing jobs go overseas. That's why it's not just the Confederate statues that are coming down but ALL political statues. What the media (and Burns) is doing is distracting us from the fact that we are on the brink of The Second American Revolution, a People's Revolution this time, that recognizes that America was founded by, and has been governed by Rich White men, and NO One else. It is starting to emerge in the American consciousness that the Rich White Men, of BOTH the North and the Confederacy, have never given a DAMN about ANY Average American of ANY Color. That's what these multi-color nationwide protests are REALLY About, but the Rich White Men Establishment dares not acknowledge the People's Revolution that is underway for fear of spreading it further. Trump's extremely divisive rhetoric also attempts to forestall this inevitable Second American Revolution by pitting Americans against each other so that they don't unify to overthrow the Fed Govt. But it looks like it's too late now that protesters are knocking down even non-Confederate statues. Knock down statues today. Knock down the White House and Wall Street tomorrow. That's what I see happening in America today. God Help Us All !!! ... jkulik919@gmail.com

Remember as a nation we were very very young....74 years to be exact the states were 200+ years old. Lee chose Virginia because that was his home, he didn't want any of it to happen but once it did Virginia came first in the mind of Robert e lee.

@Natty Bumppo Many Americans at that time believed that slavery was morally wrong, owning slaves was against the word of God. Modern day America would not exist if each state was it's own nation. It does, however, prove my point that statues are useless as a history lesson. Clearly the people who vandalized the statue had no idea who the guy was or that he fought against slavery. Honestly, I had to read about him to know who he was. And I’ve been to Madison many times. Probably never noticed the statue. That being said, vandalism is never the right way to handle it. That's not what an intellectually honest discussion looks like. This is: I don’t do slogans, so to me, “Black Lives Matter” is just as empty as its comeback cousin. Blunt instruments for change are just too ham-handed for my taste. Rather than endlessly debate catch phrases, monuments, and movements-I’m far more interested in considering the underlying merit in a point of view. While everyone else spins their wheels on who’s right, I define what I see by factoring for what’s true (isolating and correlating along the way). When it comes to ascertaining the truth, I don’t care what your cause is, who’s in the White House, who controls Congress or the courts. I learned early on in life that what you want gets in the way of what you see. Does the Democratic Party have a history of manipulating racially-charged incidents? Undeniably! Has the left-leaning side of the cable clans increasingly accommodated Democrats over the years? Without question! Can you conclude what happened to Trayvon and Michael Brown with the same certainty as the death of George Floyd? No way-but ya did, and in lickety-split fashion. Zimmerman’s brother perfectly put it: “He had the greater hand in his own demise.” To an apologist, he had no hand at all-a mindset that violates the rules of reality. If you’re pulled over by the police and you cop an attitude, you’re askin’ for trouble. And right on cue, “He was a wannabe cop and was told not to follow him!” So, you want to skip right over what transpired and go right to “gunned down”-because he was armed and didn’t follow instructions? Wishful thinking is not an argument-not to mention the fact that preforming calcified conclusions is prejudice by definition. The Left seeks to eradicate racism while refusing to recognize how they fuel it. The second they painted Trayvon as a child, they contaminated their judgment. The cops made an honest mistake in calling his watermelon drink “iced tea” (simply because of the brand). That the media advocates reported it the same way at first is understandable. That they never corrected it is unforgivable. To conform to fact, we must agree that it was watermelon and consider what it means: Maybe nothing, maybe everything. But you pollute the debate when you won’t even acknowledge the irrefutable. Worse than that-you poison your purpose. You’d think that a party that prides itself on intellectualism would examine the efficacy of their efforts. Perhaps even try some predictive analysis: ************************ Hmm, we’ve got the first black president in the White House and we’re marching to Black Lives Matter. That might be overplaying our hand and have unintended consequences. Same goes for the removal of monuments-do we really want to infuriate the opposition for fleeting gain? Maybe the awe-inspiring artistry of historical figures will spark a sense of wonder in the youth. Perhaps they’ll read the plaque and probe for more. Whatever their findings, isn’t there great value in that process of discovery? Wouldn’t it be better if we just let people make up their own minds about whether problematic pieces embody hate or heritage? And even if the monuments could magically vanish from the face of the Earth, would that really solve anything? On top of all that, it seems that the more sensitive we try to be, the more hypersensitive our culture has become. That wasn’t our aim. We elected a sophisticated guy-shouldn’t we seek change in a bold and sophisticated manner? After all, wasn’t that the point of his presidency? Wouldn’t we more successful in solving problems if we took an honest look at the different dimensions within them? Instead of putting Kaepernick on a pedestal for telling us what we wanna hear, maybe we should be inspired by Kobe who told us what we don’t: "I won't react to something just because I'm supposed to, because I'm an African-American. That argument doesn't make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American, we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we've progressed as a society? Well, then don't jump to somebody's defense just because they're African-American." ************************ For immovable conservatives who find comfort in that quote-take a good look in the mirror, because defending the indefensible is your M.O. What we’re seeing today was partly built on a foundation of manufactured outrage (which applies to most controversial issues in America over the last 30 years). Decades of dishonesty in the Gutter Games of Government is not a nation on a path to greatness. I wrote this piece before I came across the accompanying video. I was blown away by these words: “Anti-racism, as currently configured-has gone a long way from what used to be considered intelligent and sincere civil rights activism. Today it's a religion.” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mT2rlJe9cuU.html “I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives.” ― Leo Tolstoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4hMfZfN8WA.html . . .

@joyphillips1821
@joyphillips1821 4 года назад
The State of Virginia and represented one of the most talked about cases in the US. This is what democrats want to keep pushing on Trump and conservatives, but we know it ISN'T TRUE... They are just trying to hide their racism and remove it from history.
