Ken Page, the voice of Oogie Boogie in Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas" sings "Oogie Boogie's Song" live before the movie at El Capitan in Los Angeles.
to everyone saying he messed the lyrics up he most likley did it on purpose to prove he isn't lip syncing. damon albarn does this alot during his live performances cause he's so good people think he lip syncs
Leonardo Birdman no, he simply forgot how the song goes and there's nothing wrong with that. He knows as well which is why he said at the end that the audience might know the lyrics better. It doesn't matter though, his voice is that of a legend.
Even if he forgot some words who honestly gives a shit Ken Page is a amazing musician who has more than proved himself that he can sing and doesn't have to keep proving himself to no one plus it probably had been awhile since he had performed this so chances are he probably did forget some lyrics. Plus give the man a break he is in his 60s.
Ken Page is a fantastic actor and singer who puts his heart into it. I kind of wish he could get more roles. I mean, I'm glad he's Oogie Boogie and he still loves the role (Can't say the same for other actors who experience being pigeon holed), but it'd be cool to see him in other roles.
Reason why it sounds so pure and good: . The original recording was raw and not altered with some stupid software to make it sound "better" like most performers these days
This is one credit I have to give TNBC cast. The singers for all the songs sound just as good live as in the film. Hard to sound that good without editing or noticeable sound mixing
papershadow69 There’s a very easy way to get that type of sound every single time: use musical theatre actors, or at least actors with a musical theatre background.
Quality evil laugh, bashful, booming, guttural but somehow not cheesy and forced. Awesome feat, and something not many people can just naturally nail right away on a single take!
"But now with your premission... I'm gunna do my stuff!" "What are you going to do!?" "I'm gunna do the best I can.. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Legitimately brings a smile to my face whenever I hear this song. Honestly quite masterful, although it appears simple. And he seems like such a nice guy too.
this man is a champion of champions the world needs more people like him I love how there's like no difference between the movie version and live version... that's jsut how good he is
"A large man with an even larger heart - If you ever want to feel protected, just tuck in next to this big bag of love." - Harvey Fierstein, talking about Ken Page.
One of my favorite songs I can belt. Im mainly a contralto, it's hard find stuff that actually suits my range. And it's so expressive! Ive used it for a few auditions!
