When Earl Campbell says he should of been put in much earlier that says it all.....If we had Stabler in 78’, 79’ I think we would have beat Pittsburgh. Earl would have played longer and the Oilers would still be in Houston. God bless #12 he was my QB for the Oilers and y’all know about #34 Luv ya Blue !
The first book I ever read cover to cover, was Snake, Stabler's autobiography. I was just a kid at the time, and Stabler was the coolest guy in the NFL. One of my all-time favorite players, and personalities. Rest in peace, Snake.
He was so Perfect for the Raiders. And to think he sat on the bench for about 2-3 years then turned the league out. Will never be another. 🥰 One of only 3 left handed QB"S to play in a Superbowl(Other 2 are Boomer Esiason and Steve Young) and 1 of only 2 to win it and he was the first.
I'm a Steelers fan, I bleed black & gold, but in the 70's when we played the Raiders it was always a nail biter. I never saw 2 teams so evenly matched, the Snake was good and I mean very good, very cool under pressure, wouldn't want anyone else in that situation. In the years after his retirement I could never understand why he wasn't voted into the Hall of Fame he deserved to be there much earlier, but I am glad he finally got the recognition that he so very much deserved, a great quarterback and a great team leader. RIP Snake you were one of the greats.
Carol Knoblow you are awesome. I hate when fans of teams put on blinders and won't give credit to anyone not in their teams colors. I missed the Snake era as I was born in 72 and didn't become a Raiders fan until 81. But I have never had another team and have been loyal to the Silver & Black going on my 36th season. And I just love the game. I'll watch any game that is on. I don't care who is playing. And I have always been honest when it comes to players and what they bring to their teams. I hate your team...but would I mind Bell or Brown in my colors? Not at all. Tim Brady? Makes me wanna puke but sad to say he will go down as the GOAT. But that's only until Carr retires. Lol. Cherers
Isaac I'm actually a male but for some reason this you tube account seems to be under my fiance's. You should watch if you haven't already some of the Steeler's Raider's games of the 70's, both teams were hard hitting, very physical at a time when football was football. I actually rooted for the Raiders then and now when my Steeler's were out of the picture, I didn't like them much then or now but I liked their style of football because it was very similar to the Steeler's. I don't like Brady either he almost always makes the Steeler's defense look ridiculous, but I have to give him credit he is good, not the best of all time, I have to give that nod to Joe Montana.
God Bless the Stabler family , he is with God Now and his family will see him again ! A true Kenny Stabler song So Beautiful . We Lost a Great Man and True Legend , I am praying for his family. It's never easy time seems to last forever! Your missed so much !
Very nicely done! The NFL should be ashamed that it took him this long to get in the HOF. He should have been voted in his first year of eligibility! Sadly... they wait until he's gone. But this is very nice video. *Snake* was a treasure. Great QB, involved in the most memorable plays in NFL history and he was as nice as could be. I met him 5 times and he was always so cool and so polite. Love live *SNAKE*!!!
the run Snake made in the 1972 playoff vs. Pittsburgh to put the Raiders ahead by a point with a minute left amazed me for so many years. I watched it live in the Bay Area as a 10 year old and Snake was my favorite player after that. That run seemed to come out of no where but looking at these highlights of him from high school and college shows that he had a lot of practice making magical runs before that day in Pittsburgh......Franco Harris would have never been as famous as he is today if it wasn't for Snakes amazing run that set up one of the most historical and controversial plays in NFL history. Incredible how many historical plays Stabler was involved in from 1972-78.
HOW MANY STEELER FANS REMEMBER THAT? I F'N DO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A GOOD LADY FRIEND OF MINE SAID WHEN I CALLED HER TO TELL FRANCO HAD, PAST, SHE SAID " COULDNT HE HAVE WAITED 2 DAYS? " HE PAST 2 DAYS B 4 THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE IMMACULATE DECEPTION, AS US MANY RRRRRRRRRAIDER FANS CALL IT. R I P FRANCO, ROCHELE SAYS HI !!!!!!
MY SILVER & BLACK #12 RAIDERS JERSEY IS HANGING ON MY WALL, BY MY BAR AND A RECORDING OF SWEET HOME, ALABAMA!!!!!!!!!!!! THX NFL NETWORK, U R GREAT AND TO U SABOLS. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my Houston days in 1980 I met Kenny at the San Antone Rose country bar. He was traded to the Houston Oilers and as usual he was reading the playbook by the light of the Jukebox😂
There will never be another QB who put as much charisma and fun into the NFL. 40 years after he left the Raiders, I still have a black #12 jersey hanging in my closet.
This was pretty epic. Thank you for putting it together. The Snake was a true joy to watch compete when I was a kid. Especially liked Stabler's high school film moments. Gone but never forgotten!
I'm so glad I grew up in a time when it was so much fun to watch a game. The Raiders were my favorite team back then. Kenny was my all-time favorite Quarter back. He would have been a lot of fun to play with and just be around. He lived life to its fullest. I am 65 years old now and I don't even watch sports. I don't even have T.V. Got rid of cable a long time ago. Now it's all commercials and drug commercials and to many time outs. The games anymore seemed rigged. Too much Mob gambling and too much money involved. NFL seems so corrupt anymore. But I do hope the Detroit Lions someday will go all the way. Maybe someday they will get back to some old-fashioned football and Baseball. And bring integrity back to sports. These liberals have ruined everything. May Kenny Stabler Rest in Peace. And may God put His arm around His whole family. Kenny was a true entertainer. He made the game exciting and brought out the best in players, even from all the other teams. There will never be another one like The Snake. God Broke the Mold when He made Kenny. He was a true Legend. Best left-handed quarterback ever.
Nobody had more fun being a professional football player than Kenny Stabler, The Snake proved that you could have fun in a game that has turned into a billion dollar business, They'll never be another one like Kenny Stabler, I'm so glad they finally put him in Canton, I just wished that he could have been here to enjoy the moment that he so truly deserved.
Kenny was one of the most accurate QBs in his time. In a time period when many quarterbacks barely hit 50% of their passes, he was often throwing 60%-most of which were downfield, not the dink and dunks like today. It was a run-first league when Kenny played. A lot of memories: Ghost to The Post, Sea of Hands, Holy Roller. While I was happy for his family when The Snake was finally enshrined in Canton, I also felt it to be a slap in the face to do it after his passing. Hope these voters get what coming to them.
Ken Stabler left us way too early. He was a great player, perhaps one of the best southpaw QBs ever! He sacrificed his body, heart and soul on the field. He had a modest way of being super competitive while keeping his cool. He reminded me of Broadway Joe Namath a lot in this aspect...sacrificed this body on countless occasions just to get an other fraction of a second to get a critical pass thrown on the spot. I thought and still think he was one of the most under-rated QBs of all time. I mean don't get me wrong - Daryl Lamonica and Jim Plunkett were great also but Kenny Stabler just seemed like he put more gut into it for lack of a better way to say it.... RIP Kenny ! God bless his family and Raiders nation !
Harvey this is fantastic man. I cry once a decade and this almost got me going. Great tribute to a great Quarterback and great guy. Senior committee at the HOF just nominated him, let's hope he gets in. It is well deserved and overdue. You love him as much as me by the looks of your tribute. Ken Stabler, my fucking hero.
