I made an error with the dropper length - it’s a 210mm dropper on the S5 (NOT 180mm as stated in the video). I do normally use a 210mm on my bikes, so still not enough quite insertion with this length dropper 👍
@1982papo
@1982papo Месяц назад
the seattube angle (especially the actual) so outdated that specialized is not sharing the horizontal top tube lenght in their geo charts? (because of the slack actual seattube angle) :D. and how about that insertion depth of longer droppers? fail

My Kenevo SL is 17 kg with some different parts. And I love the old motor because it has enough power and with 320 battery, it is the perfect combo. Did 75 km and 2600m of climbing in the Swiss alps. This bike is not made for full turbo all the time. If you ride full turbo, then go with a normal bike

Love my Kenevo SL, its perfect for riding with the young fit lads (I'm 52), The 1.0 motor is fine I just wish it was a bit quieter. I also wish Spec would sell just the 1.2 motor since other than a little plastic bit the motor just bolts right on.

I’ve recently bought the last gen Kenevo SL and I’m really pleased with it. I’m not a fan of full power ebikes; most look hideous but the biggest issue for me is the weight. It’s really noticeable when riding especially on jumps and drops and it makes them a pain in the arse to transport. It feels like a normal bike with enough boost to take the sting out of the climbs to get to the fun stuff. For me it’s the right bike.

Out of curiosity what do you weigh? I'm 6'3" (193cm), 32 years old with 12+ years of consistent weight training. I have low body fat (viable abs, vascularity, etc) but still weight 96kg. I know it's not the most weight ever but even though I have 20+ years of cycling of all disciplines under my belt I still feel like I kinda neeeeed the full power haha. I do agree though they do look hideous. I raced dirtbikes for half my life though so the weight doesn't bother me so much.

@@matthewgrosser5712 I just bought a kenevo sly weight is 235lbs and I have no problem. Had a levo before it same effort just you ride a little bit slower on climbs. But downhill it’s light enough to barely notice compared to the levo which felt like a brick. Side note boost mode on the levo was still nice to have

Great honest review Rob I think a lot of people were expecting some be updates on the new Kenevo SL but unfortunately they stuck with the original frame design and battery and seem to have just bolted the new motor on, we can’t get away this is a great bike but as you said it s big ask to shell out for the newer version when the original is going for rock bottom prices

Thanks for the honest review Rob, and fair comment I'd say. Like you I prefer a full fat ebike and I have a Levo. I'm not sure SL bikes make sense unless you absolutely love a lighter trail bike feel, but this isn't a light bike. The Levo SL seems much closer to that ideal. Without a removable battery, though, it's pretty limited

Thanks for another great review Rob! I'll stick with my 2022 KSL. Started with a Levo Comp but personally found it to be too much power for the New England trails I ride. very interesting review rob! thx! I am loving my full fat full 29er kenevo. but tempted to get the „new“ SL kenevo for a more nimble downhill ride as an addition to the full fat. however your video makes me think twice as I also see the outlined downsides (ST angle, max insertion of dropper, small battery). the question is if I am patient enough to wait for the next gen kenevo sl… 😅 btw whats the max insertion of the 180 one up you can get?
@RobRidesEMTB
@RobRidesEMTB 6 месяцев назад
S5 Max insertion is 200mm. Max insertion length of the oneup 180 dropper is 267mm - so approx 67mm of extra stack. The seat tube length on the S5 Kenevo is 465mm - add on the extra 67mm and the effective seat tube length is 532mm. That’s pretty high.

I've been saying "smaller" since I got my e-bike. People I ride with only go out for 1 - 2 1/2 hours so I only ever use 20-30% of my batt.. Plus, MANY, of the trails near me you CANNOT turbo-up because its simply too fast on ascent dedicated trails, so you are in low power most of the time anyway. Additional items: Less gears!, I barely ever use 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 11th- now that I have powered up. Peer 2 peer charging would be cool too May as well get ride of XC geometry because you don't pay any (significant) price for an aggressive bike stance when you got power. then its more fun on the decent! You stated the obvious. Light weight eMTBs are a sub category of eMTB electric bikes. If you have money to buy a stable of electric bikes, maybe a light electric bike and power electric bike or a long travel long range electric bike. That’s a lot of money. I definitely see this new Motorsport bike category being expanded.

Blast Specialized not letting KSL 1 or Levo SL 1 owners upgrade to the Mahle 1.2 motor. Also should not be labeled KSL 2 for JUST a motor change as there are no frame changes... As far as build, I would skip Transmission as it is much too heavy still., and it is weight where you do not want it. Rob, I am also 6ft 3, and found the S4 to be much better to ride, but yes dropper is in the way. Best right now is the Wolftooth 200mm for this frame, as you can get the best drop to stack height ratio.

The SL concept doesn't really work for heavy riders. I am lucky enough to have several bikes to choose from, and the way I sum up the difference is that the SLs are slower on the steeper climbs, but FASTER everywhere else, because they are more nimble and easier to push through the speed limiter. I recently tested the 50Nm Levo SL and was surprised how weak the motor assistance was on steeper climbs and yet the battery drained fast. The TQ motor with the same torque output feels more powerful and quieter. No. The suspension design of the Kenevo SL limits the seatpost insertion. I usually have a 210mm One Up but there's no way I could have run that on this bike. the current benchmark Wh per KG that is actually available now is 200Wh per KG (SRAM's new system achieves 203Wh per KG. These use newer 5.8Ah cells. If the Levo used these, the 700Wh battery would weigh 3.44KG - over half a KG lighter than the current 4KG weight. OR, could have more battery capacity for the same weight. Worst points about the bike in my opinion: Stem: who rides 63deg with 6cm stem? Front hub: side play unless you tighten the heck out of the Front axle (not bad cause it tends to get loose). Tires: single ply crap on a DH/SuperEnduro geometry (drop them for DD Shorty front DHR back)? Dropper: Even if you have long legs you can benefit from a OneUp dropper. Shock: why no Factory Fox and instead drop the super expensive drivetrain? Brakes: I could live with code RS but Shimano XT would be grater. I love the bike and the way it handels but I would have been better of building from scratch with a Sworks frame like Neil did. Dont buy it if you have short legs or you are heavy or untrained

It's quieter and better bla bla bla...These motors should have been perfect since day 1 because all of these are huge companies there is no place for excuses let alone these are so low power and useless.

Launching new products is tough, and its not always easy to make perfect products, especially on first generations (google Glass / Apple AirPower / GoPro Karma) - progress often builds on failures and opportunities...

If you had any experence with any type of manufacturing you would know there's no such thing as perfect. And if there was it would never get to market as you would be spending all the time making it perfect.

Whatever market you are describing IS bound to fail, just like the BOUTIQUE bike market is not only crashing but soon to being a cottage industry that is niche. The general public is not going to take loans out they cannot pay for A EXTREME DOWNHILL EBIKE. There is a market where MONSTER TRUCK ebikes cost far less and DO MORE in terms of people riding up the mountain for far less money. Please cover that one if you can.

I can't be bothered with SL mediocrity. If im getting an ebike, its not so I do it by a half measure.

No sir. I refuse to ride with that sound. I tried 4 bikes. Hated them all. I absolutely hate that sound. Its like a drone next to my head. Ya nope...hard pass on the electro bikes. Too heavy, not as fun. Only good for long climbs. Going down scks. Best is a 130 to 150 ultra slack and light on fast trails. The rest is grandma land.
