From The States: Was watching an old episode of WILTY, and Lauren Laverne was on it. So I went to check her out, oh so many years later, (Sept 2022). Glad I did. This is pretty cool! Gonna listen to more!!!
While I agree, "girl band" feels like such a reductive term to me. they're just bands that HAPPEN to have women in them. They are good enough to stand on their own without being cordoned off into the "exclusively girl" box. "female" is not a genre. It's half the world. Half the world has always been making music, so just call them a band
kenickie are my favorite band of all time saw them live at wolverhampton so many times loved marie she was really sweet lauren is still so fit kenickie 4ever
Reminds me of listening to Mark & Lard on the wireless in the latter part of the 20th Century. Lauren rules! Apart from Kermode's quiff she's the only reason I watch The Culture Show.
Anyone know where I can find a Rosita video? Was the band Emmy-Kate Montrose (red top and white guitar) and marie DuSantiago (green top, blond hair) formed after Kenickie split. Saw them at the manchester roadhouse years ago. Great gig!
Fantastic tune- reminds me of my early-teens! I'm shocked to find a lack of Punka on here though. I loved that tune and was devistated when some chav stole my bag with that CD in it.
Back when all the boys were lusting over the Spice Girls in the late 90's, I was crushing on Lauren. And yes, I'm aware she cussed the Spice Girls too!
i remember my dad said the emmy kate looked like anne widdecome, but i think it was more just to say something rude. Jonny x is the smallest of them all!
I am a very public spirited kind of lass, and i though the community at large would benefit from the idiocy statistics cited above. Always putting others before myself.
I disagree. About the degree of her failure, that is! Without doubt Laverne didn't possess the charisma or vocal abilities of Debbie Harry but as a songwriter she's under-rated. Her songs may not have had the mass-appeal of Blondie's confections but they're every bit as good in terms of structure and content. I'd say they're bolder too.
Yeah, xsquaredx, you've embarrassed yourself there, and everyone else who likes Kenickie less than the Beatles. I for one am deeply upset, and I know my friends here are too. Shame on you. Lauren Laverne is still amazing, though.
Odd song. Mostly terrible but for about five seconds (the 'Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah' bits) it's quite good. Wisely, they repeat the good bit about nine times.
